<itunes:subtitle>Welcome to the Paris Art School Podcast. Our mission is to present to you art schools where you can come to study as an international student. This episode will focus on the French National Institute for Cultural Heritage. Hope you will enjoy it! If you’re studying in the fields of conservation-restoration, you might be interested in the French National Institute for Cultural Heritage. Called in French “Institut National du Patrimoine”, this school was created in 2001 and is in charge of the training of the curators and of conservators. It’s in fact the merger of two former schools: the Institut Français de Restauration des Oeuvres d’Art created 1990 which used to train the conservators, and the Ecole Nationale du Patrimoine which trained curators. In this episode we are going to focus on the conservator department where about 100 students from different backgrounds are studying. Let’s talk about the teaching program of the school. The conservator training lasts five years and a Master degree is delivered at the end. The school offers 9 specialisations: painting, textile, photography, graphic arts, books, sculpture, furniture, metal and a ceramic, glass and enamel section. The courses’ weekly timetables are divided between the common core and the specialised teaching. The 3 first days of the week are common for the students from the same class and are dedicated to the learning of sciences, art history, drawing, foreign languages and computing. The last two days of the week are dedicated to the speciality courses in the workshops which is either practice of ancient techniques, or practice of the conservation and restoration on objects from French national collections. In June and July, the students follow several continuous weeks of practical teaching, in the workshop or on school-fields. The practice of restoration is also taught through internships since there is a total of 9 months of compulsory internship including 6 months abroad. Finally, during the last year, the student must demonstrate a professional approach as he/she carries out a research and restoration project on a work of art during the whole year. One of the major advantages of the school is its premises. Since 2015, the school has been located in a former matchstick factory dating from the 19th century and totally renovated for the purposes of the training programs. The buildings contain an inner courtyard overlooked by an impressive 45-metre high brick chimney which is a listed building. Two rows of industrial buildings house the spacious workshops, a photography studio, a laboratory and a documentation centre. The latter two are major assets of the school. Indeed, the laboratory is equipped with scientific imaging equipment within the establishment including several microanalytical techniques, and the documentation center is the second reference library in the conservation of cultural heritage in Europe. As an international student you have the possibility to study at the Institut National du Patrimoine for a few months. The school has an Erasmus university charter, which allows European students with equivalent qualifications to come and follow the courses for a semester. All the courses are in French therefore a B2 level of the language is needed. To apply, you must complete an application form for international students available on the website. If you are accepted you won’t have fees to pay, as your tuition would have been paid to your home school. On average, the school welcomes 2 to 5 Erasmus students per year. If you want to enter the school in order to get a diploma you can also pass the entrance examination for the first year of the Master’s program as it is open to students of all nationalities who have passed the baccalaureate or an equivalent. You can also be directly admitted into the 2nd, 3rd or 4th year if you are already able to demonstrate achievements in conservation-restoration. Thank you for listening to the Paris Art School podcast and I hope you found this episode useful!</itunes:subtitle>

<itunes:subtitle>Welcome to the Paris Art School Podcast. Our mission is to present to you art schools where you can come to study as an international student. This episode will focus on the Mobilier National. Hope you will enjoy it! The Mobilier National and its manufactures were created in 1604 by Henri IV and reorganized in 1663 by Louis XIV. This institution provides furniture for the highest places of the french Republic and its various presidential residences. By entering the Mobilier national, you’ll recognize the prestige of French tradition, the know-how excellence and the spirit of artistic creation and contemporary design. You can access as a student to the Mobilier National initial training to acquire technical mastery in straightening and restoring carpets and tapestries. The studies last four years and include programs in artistic, technical and general disciplines. Another thing to know is that you won’t have to pay any fees during all these years you’ll be paid as part of the status of learning. Also, the training leads to diplomas from the National Education, CAP and BMA, each prepared in two years. The awarding of your BMA follows the competition of art technicians of the Ministry of Culture which gives access to category B jobs in the workshops of the Mobilier National. To be admitted to the training, candidates must be between 16 and 29 years old, be a national of a Member State of the European Union, have good provisions for drawing and taste of meticulous work. The selection test consists of a general culture questionnaire, the execution of a still life drawing, a test to assess the meaning of colours and values, and an interview where you submit your personal work. There is by the way no limitation on the number of admission. Thank you for listening to the Paris Art School podcast and I hope you found this episode useful!</itunes:subtitle>

<itunes:subtitle>Welcome to the Paris Art School Podcast. Our mission is to present to you art schools where you can come to study as an international student. This episode will focus on the School in Industrial Design and Textile Design. Hope you will enjoy it! The School in Industrial Design and Textile Design, called in French ENSCI-Les Ateliers or Ecole Nationale Supérieure de création industrielle was created in 1982 and is the first French public institute specialising in advanced studies in Industrial Creation and Textile Design. The school is placed under the dual supervision of the French ministries for Culture and Industry, and enjoys recognition on national and international scales. The school is also open to the economic world and has a lot of partnerships to familiarize and prepare students for the world of business. Each year, 300 students from many different cultural backgrounds study at the School in Industrial Design or Textile Design. Two diplomas raised to the rank of a Master are offered in initial training: The textile designer creator and the industrial creator. The pedagogy is based on projects and experimentation, every student learns through their own path in contrast to classical chronological studies. The practice of design is done both with traditional techniques and cutting edge technologies. Theoretical courses are also provided to offer the critical base necessary to understand the cultural, economic, societal and environmental context of the students’ future careers. In addition to a team of permanent academic staff, French and foreign experts such as designer artists, architects, industrialists, engineers, sociologists and others are invited for conferences and workshops. The school stands out through the absence of specialization which allows a lot of freedom for the students and makes them autonomous. Located in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, near the Place de la Bastille in the former studios of the decorator Jansen, the school has kept the spirit of the workshops. These spaces are open 7 days a week and 24 hours a day for the students to develop their projects according to their own schedule. A lot of equipment is provided to the students. There are material workshops for wood, metal and plastic, material and process workshops with digital chain of design, modelling and prototyping, there are also a material library and digital workshop. Students can do some research in the documentation center which provides national and international resources. Finally, there are photo, sound and video audiovisual studios that allow students to design and present their projects. As an international student, you can come for one semester at the ENSCI as an Erasmus+ student if your institution has a bilateral agreement with it, or as an exchange student if you are a student in one of the school’s partner institutions which include the MOME, the University of Art and Design of Budapest. But you will have to go through a selection process before being accepted as an exchange student. The school takes up to 15 exchange students every year. As an exchange student you’ll have no fees to pay. You can also enter the school for the whole syllabus in industrial or in textile design: for 3 to 5 five years, depending upon whether you already have an advanced studies diploma or not. You will have to provide a portfolio of your work and take admission tests if you pass the first selection phase. The admission is not age limited and is open to all applicants who have sound knowledge of French language. Then, each year in the school costs 438€ for the enrollment fee. Since 2010, the school has also opened its competitive selection process to English-speaking students with a basic knowledge of French and a Bachelor’s degree. Successful applicants will be offered a 3½ year course, the first semester of which is devoted to a design project in an English-speaking project workshop, combined with an intensive French language program at their own expense. <itunes:subtitle>Welcome to the Paris Art School Podcast. Our mission is to present to you art schools where you can come to study as an international student. This episode will focus on the National School of Design and Crafts. Hope you will enjoy it! If you’re studying in the fields of design or crafts, you might be interested in the National School of Design and Crafts. This school, which is also called in French Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqué et des Métiers d’Art or Olivier de Serres, is a renowned school for design studies and training in craft on various materials. The school has a really solid reputation in the world of Decorative Arts and Art Methods because of its seniority and its high quality of the teaching provided. For these reasons, it attracts students from all over France and across the world to explore their passion and become highly renowned creators. The relationships between the school and professionals in a range of fields allow for a lot of interesting projects such as exhibitions, shows or internships. Let's have a quick look at the history of the school! ENSAAMA was originally created by the merging of 2 schools, the school of Arts & Crafts founded in 1941, which was in the current Picasso Museum, and the school of Industrial Arts founded in 1922. Now, since 1969, the school is located in the 15th district of Paris in a building with modernist architecture reminiscent of the Bauhaus in Dessau, which was a very important institution for the history of design. Regarding the teaching given, the college is training students on various specialisations in the field of design such as graphic design and digital technology, product design, spatial design, 3D branding and fashion textile innovation. Different specializations in crafts are also offered by the school such as synthetic materials, stained-glass, metal sculpture, lacquerware, fresco and mosaics. The studies can last 1 to 5 years : depending on whether you do only a foundation year, or if you continue with a Bachelor's degree and a Master degree. If you are interested in doing international mobility at ENSAAMA, you have several possibilities to be admitted to study for a few months. You can come at the ENSAAMA as an Erasmus+ student if your institution has a bilateral agreement with it, or as an exchange student if you are a student in one of the school’s partner institutions. It includes for example the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design of Budapest. You can also apply as a free mover in the international class, which will cost you between 1300 and 1600€ of fees per semester. Regarding the language, it is highly recommended to have some knowledge of French, at least the B1-B2 level as most courses are taught in French. However, some Erasmus + students or exchange students with a basic knowledge of French may be accepted as the school also offers courses in English and in French as a foreign language. <itunes:subtitle>Welcome to the Paris Art School Podcast. Our mission is to present to you art schools where you can come to study as an international student. This episode will focus on the Ecole Estienne. Hope you will enjoy it! Founded in 1889 and originally dedicated to printing, the École Estienne has evolved into communication design and book art. Aware of the constant evolution of the sector, it has been able to adapt to its environment and currently offers training in digital communication and 3D animation. The school is open to foreign students, however you need to have a good command of French, a C1 level is required. If you have it, you can apply on the same basis as French students for example to the DNMADE, the National Diploma of Crafts and Design which is the main diploma of the school and is equivalent to a bachelor. These 3 years are followed by 2 additional years of study of the DSAA to complete a master's degree. To integrate the bachelor, you must register on the Parcoursup website and for the DSAA master, directly on the school website. The training is based on a common foundation with fundamentals, theories and culture on the one hand, and of transversal knowledge including creative methods and tools on the other. They expect you to have or acquire during the studies, a good level of general culture and openness to the culture of arts, sciences and techniques. You should be interested in digital tools and their uses as well. You’ll also need to demonstrate a sense of sharing and collaborative work. The master’s degree allows access to different professional sectors such as intangible or interactive design and production, manufacturing and restoration relating to crafts, or teaching research. Another way to integrate the Ecole Estienne is through the ERASMUS program. If you are a student in an institution that has signed a bilateral agreement with the Estienne school, you are eligible. Otherwise you can join the international class, which is a common structure created by the four schools of Applied Arts of Paris. This program is open to foreign students who have validated 3 years of artistic training and allow them to follow most of the courses of a section during 1 or 2 semesters. Finally, regarding its location, the school is located not far from la Butte aux Cailles in the 13th arrondissement of Paris and provides a quality environment to its students. <itunes:subtitle>Welcome to the Paris Art School Podcast. Our mission is to present to you art schools where you can come to study as an international student. This episode will focus on the Ecole Boulle. Hope you will enjoy it! The “Ecole Boulle”, which is a renowned school created in 1886, trains students in the fields of artistics crafts and applied arts. It is named after the cabinetmaker André-Charles Boulle who is generally considered as the principal artist in the field of marquetry during the reign of Louis XIV. At its very beginnings, the school’s vocation was to train future furniture makers, and a little later, chisellers, bronze fitters and steel engravers. After WWII, the school opened to modernity and developed new courses related to space, interior architecture and layout. Today the school is very open to the world and is involved in collaborative projects with various national and international partners. The school trains the students to the DNMADE, the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree. The Design Department offers specialization in the field of space design, product design and event design. The Craftsmanship Department consists in 13 workshops : Jewellery design and making, conceptual metal assemblage, metal carving, surface finishing, furniture-making, embossing, marquetry, chair-making, furniture restoration, wood-carving, upholstery, ornamental engraving and lathework. After graduating the DNMADE, you’ll have the possibility to specialize your skills even more by continuing your studies with a DSAA, a diploma equivalent to a Master 1, in the fields of space design, event design and product design. The human scale of the classes helps to create a collaborative relationship between the students and the professor and encourage self-expression and innovation. As an international student, you can come for one semester at the Ecole Boulle as an Erasmus+ student if your institution has a bilateral agreement with it, or as an exchange student if you are a student in one of the school’s partner institutions which include the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design of Budapest. As an Erasmus + student or a school partner student you will have no fees to pay. If you're not eligible for these exchange programs, you can come as a free mover and join the international class, which is a common structure created by the four schools of Applied Arts of Paris. This program is open to foreign students who have validated 3 years of artistic training and allow them to follow most of the courses of a section during 1 or 2 semesters. In this case, fees will cost you 1600€ per semester if you are European and 1900€ if you’re not. For the record, each year, the school welcomes 5 to 8 foreign students in immersion. If you want to apply to take a degree, you will have to pass through the same selection process as French students. You must have a sufficient command of French to do exactly the same work as French students from the beginning of the year. Indeed, all courses are taught in French. However, the school provides foreign students who are coming only for one or two semesters with a free French course to help them defend their projects. Regarding the premises, the school is located in the 12th arrondissement of Paris, near the place de la Nation. The school is located in a historical brick building built in 1891, and of more modern building extensions containing an inner courtyard. Everything has been renovated between 2001 and 2012 to welcome the students in brand new workshops. The school also includes a documentation center, a school restaurant, a cafeteria and an auditorium. <itunes:subtitle>Welcome to the Paris Art School Podcast. Our mission is to present to you art schools where you can come to study as an international student. This episode will focus on the School of Decorative Arts of Paris. Hope you will enjoy it! The Ecole des Arts décoratifs de Paris alias the School of Decorative Arts of Paris, founded in 1766, is a public institution of higher education under the authority of the French Ministry for Culture and Communication. Out there, 180 professors are teaching interior Architecture, Art, Animation, Graphic and Product Design, Textile and Texture Design, Fashion Design, Printed Images, Photography/Video and Stage Design to 700 students of whom 15% are foreigners. Some great artists, such as the painter Henri Matisse or the sculptor Auguste Rodin studied here. The international dimension has become essential in building a professional future. Studying abroad is an opportunity for students to confront their capacities for innovation and creation with different cultures and different economic, social, and environmental approaches. Working in another culture is also a way of becoming strongly adaptable and resilient. That’s why each year, they receive around 80 foreign students in traditional courses and 80 in the framework of Erasmus or bilateral mobility. The school’s partner institutions include for example the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest. As a student accepted as part of an exchange you’ll be exempted from enrollment fees, as your tuition would have been paid to your home school. During their study period, international students enjoy the same rights and are subject to the same obligations as the students of the school. An attestation for the period study at the École des Art Décoratifs de Paris, as well as a transcript of grades and credits corresponding to each teaching unit, is provided to foreign students at the end of their studies at the School. The degree course and diploma proposed lasts 5 years of study and is a state-certified Master's level diploma. Candidates who want to enter the master and who have been awarded by foreign diplomas must provide an attestation of equivalence from the awarding institutions. A knowledge of French sufficient to allow the candidate to interact with the jury during the examination is by the way required. Then, each year in the school costs 530€ for the enrollment fee and the student and campus life contribution. The course is divided into two sections of 3 years and 2 years. The first three years are dedicated to acquiring essential techniques and concepts and introducing the project phase, while the final two years provide an introduction to research. The 1st year is a foundation year common to all students at the School. In the 2nd year, students choose their specialist department subject. The 4th year includes a mandatory professional internship, a thesis, and possibly a period of foreign study whereas the 5th year is dedicated to the diploma project, a final dissertation which take the form of a spatial and oral presentation. As part of the course, students also receive general artistic and theoretical instruction such as drawing, painting, sculpture, art history, aesthetics, law, new technologies and foreign languages. Restructured in 2004, the School of Decorative Arts located rue d'Ulm in Paris offers a unique technical and technological environment to its students. The premises are spread over 15,000 m2 including, 19 technical workshops, 2 amphitheaters, an exhibition gallery, a library with 21,000 titles, a materials library with 5000 samples and a cafeteria. This episode will focus on the Ecole Duperré. Hope you will enjoy it! The École Duperré is a public art school which trains young designers in the sectors of fashion and textile. Under the authority of the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, the Ministry of National Education and Paris City Hall, Duperré promotes innovation and creativity in an atmosphere of freedom and high standards. Multiple projects in partnership with companies put their students at the heart of the pace and requirements of the professional world and involve them in teamwork. By starting an initial training, you can choose a DNMADE, which is an equivalent of a bachelor’s degree, with any of these 4 specialisms : space, graphic design, materials or fashion. The courses include among others humanities culture of arts, design and techniques, digital tools, foreign languages and economic and legal contexts. After graduating the DNMADE, you’ll have the possibility to specialize your skills even more by entering a Master’s Degree course. The Duperré School holds the Erasmus charter and you can come to Paris to study for a year if you are a student of the hungarian Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design of Budapest, because of their partnership. If you’re not eligible for any exchange program, you can come as a free mover and join the international class, which is a common structure created by the four schools of Applied Arts of Paris. This program is open to foreign students who have validated 3 years of artistic training and allow them to follow most of the courses of a section during 1 or 2 semesters. The Ecole Duperré also welcomes foreign students in initial training, they are around ten in the school. A good command of French is essential for them. Foreign students who wish to join a section and complete a full course at the school must register on the “Parcoursup” website. To give a quick description of the premises, they are traditional old buildings and house an interior courtyard. They are located in Paris in a district of creators and designers. The school library also includes some 13000 works from the late 19th century to the present day, an almost endless source of information, knowledge and images. For the sake of the anecdote, the foundation of the school in 1856 is linked to the women’s emancipation movement. Indeed, revolted by the condition of her female counterparts, Élisa Lemonnier provided, by introducing modern courses to young girls, a future and employment that had been unavailable to them until then. <itunes:subtitle>Welcome to the Paris Art School Podcast. Our mission is to present to you art schools where you can come to study as an international student. This episode will focus on the Beaux-Arts de Paris. Hope you will enjoy it! The Beaux-Arts de Paris, heir to the Académie Royale founded by Louis XIV, is a place of artistic instruction and experimentation as well as exhibitions and conservation of historical and contemporary collections. The institution, under the responsibility of the French Ministry of Culture, is dedicated to educate and train students planning to devote themselves to high-level artistic creation. Its place on the world stage of art and culture is essential and they obviously provide training under the guidance of renowned artists and is supplemented by a range of theoretical and technical teaching. It provides students with the fundamental elements they need to develop and sustain their personal artistic undertakings, and a full understanding of what is at issue in making art today. As a foreigner, you can obviously enter the Beaux-arts of Paris, and this into the first year or during the studies. It is recommended to have a good level of French, which will be assessed during the admission interview. As well, they expect you to express your creativity and originality on the basis of your work or any expression of your spirit. Eventually, you’ll be tested on your drawing skills and general culture. The Beaux-arts de Paris offers a master’s degree named DNSAP divided in 2 cycles. The 1st cycle of three years of study aims to help students master the fundamental theoretical and technical tools relating to artistic creation, and to help them identify a personal project. The two-year 2nd cycle postgraduate programme is devoted to the preparation of the DNSAP, the National Superior Diploma of Plastic Art, equivalent to a master's degree, awarded at the end of the fifth year of study. A professional internship or study trip abroad is a fundamental part of the course. During these two years, students take their theoretical training further, in particular in the context of research leading to a dissertation. Different courses are given as the foundation skills teaching which offers students extensive training in working with traditional or modern materials, with broad scope for the exploration of digital tools. Furthermore, drawing courses are teached and are compulsory during the first 2 years. Drawing is indeed considered as a tool for reporting on what is seen, an analytical tool and an instrument of reflection. In addition, the history of art classes give students the means to interpret art of all eras and all origins. The courses take place in spaces dedicated to artistic practice, creation and experimentation as well as for debate, exchange and criticism. Regarding the Erasmus program, it can only be done with their partners. And even though they currently don’t have a partnership with Hungarian institutions, that may change as they enter a new Erasmus + program between 2021 and 2027. At any rate, Hungarian students can apply for their entrance examination from the year 2022-23. Finally and to give you an idea of the premises : the Parisian institution, located in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, spreads over two hectares. This includes numerous studios, three amphitheatres, a library specialising in contemporary art as well as two exhibition spaces, the Palais des Beaux-Arts and the Cabinet des dessins Jean Bonna. Also, with 65 000 documents in all (including 51 000 books) and a range of periodicals, Beaux-Arts de Paris library is one of the top French contemporary art libraries. <itunes:subtitle>Hello and welcome to the Paris Art Schools Podcast. My name is Viviane Miceski, I study at the Institut National du Patrimoine in Paris and I am currently on a mobility programme in Budapest where I’m doing an internship at the Museum of Applied Arts. I decided to create this podcast to encourage international art students to come and study in Paris for a few months or to complete a whole course of study. In the following episodes I will present 10 Parisian art schools and let some international students who studied there tell us about their experience. This podcast is produced as part of the Ile de France Student Ambassadors Trophy in partnership with the Erasmus Student Network France, which I warmly thank for their support and guidance. I sincerely hope that the following episodes will give some of you the desire to travel and to do projects.</itunes:subtitle>
