Resident Evil Requiem has arrived! The 9^th mainline entry into the Resident Evil franchise dropped to critical acclaim. Apps and Adkins tip toed their way through Requiem and report back on their findings. Is it the perfect blend of Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 4 or does it come out as bad as T-Virus mutation?

After giving Skate Story a good kicking, Evan returns to put Sword of the Sea through the mill. Giant Squid dropped Sword of the Sea in 2025 and was supercharged by being a Day 1 release on PlayStation Plus Extra. The Pathless is highly rated by Evan, so Sword of the Sea has a lot to live up to.

Stray, the game where you are a cat reappears via Paper on Nintendo Switch 2. The 2022 indie darling picked up awards from both The Game Awards and GDC. Cat lover Paper weighs on where this stands and what to expect out of Stray in 2026.

A whopping 8 games make the grade on this edition of Idle Game Chat.

Skate Story was the surprise closer of 2025. Bolstered by its Day 1 inclusion on PlayStation Plus Extra, it seemingly came out of nowhere and landed immediate critical acclaim. A rocking soundtrack, a SimCade style skating system and an otherworldly art style brings it to the attention of Evan and Apps.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has FINALLY been confirmed to be part of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.2, but before that Apps took the plunge to re-earn some missing trophies on the PS3. In what was supposed to be the game that ended the saga, it’s prison sentence on PS3 has been a source of frustration for many fans so brighter days are ahead, but one more round on the PS3 can’t be all bad…can it?

The PS3 version of The Last of Us came out in 2013 and has been re-released a further two times. A remaster in 2014 and a remake in 2022 ensure that it is nicely preserved on modern hardware. How well does the original hold up?

Adkins comes bearing a Resident Evil trifecta! With Resident Evil Requiem close at hand, Adkins turns back the clock to tackle the remake of Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil HD Remaster (which is based on the 2002 Remake) and Resident Evil 0. From third person survival horror brilliance to fixed cameras and tank controls, how does Adkins cope with this jarring change?

Giant Squid arrived with Abzu in 2016 and their latest title, Sword of the Sea came out in 2025. Apps takes a pitstop to fill in a gaming gap and get up to speed with all things Giant Squid by heading onto The Pathless. Taking influence from Breath of the Wild and expanding the players interaction it has the ingredients to be something special.

Expedition 33 DOMINATES The Game Awards, but is it all it’s cracked up to be?

Normal service resume for Idle Game Chat as we have another edition, jam packed with gaming impressions!

On the docket this time we have the record setting “indie” darling, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. It picked up 9 awards at The Game Awards 2025 and is widely tipped to garner more big rewards for DICE, GDC and BAFTA. Adkins’ curiosity got the better of him and he dived two feet into this on Steam. Did it live up to all the hype?

Adcock returns with The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. This 2024 release was widely praised for flipping the script, where you play as Zelda on a quest to save Link. It’s a complete departure from the current Zelda framework which begun with Breath of the Wild. We will find out if Adcock this is a worthy change.

Palette cleansers are popular amongst the Dimp clan and this time it’s the turn of Gris! Nomada Studios’ debut title Gris was released in 2018 on PC and Switch with wider platforms being targeted in 2019. Apps takes up the mantle, with one eye on Nomada Studios latest game, Neva, he works his way this award-winning Platform-Adventure game.

The game impressions are rounded out by South of Midnight. This 2025 release arrived to a decent reception, but wasn’t the breakout title that Xbox and Compulsion Games were hoping for. It certainly faired better than Compulsion’s last game, We Happy Few, but what does Adkins make of it all?

The episode is wrapped up Gaming’s Most Wanted 2026. Each member of the Dimp clan was asked for the one game they are most looking forward to. Apps reveals the results!

The Game Awards 2024

A new year and a new era? Maybe, but before we look forward at what 2025 is going to bring us let’s take a look back at 2024! The Game Awards had one of its better showings in terms of game reveals. Naughty Dog closed the show with their new IP, Intergalactic, The Witcher IV got itself a nice CG trailer, Okami is getting a sequel and much more. How many bollard ticklers did The Game Awards produce? Mr. Apps & Mr. Adkins run down their lists. Oh…we talk about the Awards too…

Year-In-Review 2024

Mr. Logan takes us through a Year-In-Review for 2024. We all thought we would be sitting here with Pre-Orders for the Super Switch (this is the best name), ready for an early 2025 release but Nintendo had other ideas. Are people getting impatient waiting for new hardware, despite still having a decent slate of games in 2024? PlayStation had one of the biggest disasters in gaming history with the release and subsequent cancellation of Concord, but they also had the highest rated game of the year with Astro Bot. This is reinforced by other strong exclusive offerings like Hellblade 2, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Stellar Blade. Many of these were not First Party offerings, which begs two questions, does it actually matter and was it really a terrible year to be playing on PS5? Xbox on the other hand had one of the strangest years on record. They closed multiple studios down and their shift towards multiplatform releases only got more aggressive as the year went on. What does this mean for the Xbox brand and their future in hardware? What is an Xbox?

Metaphor: ReFantazio Review

Mr. Apps returns with another longform review of Game of Year contender, Metaphor: ReFantazio. Having played Persona 4 Golden, Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Royal all in the last 18 months, will he be feeling burnout or will the change of scenery be enough for another huge JRPG? Dragon's Dogma is a 2012 action role-playing hack and slash video game by Capcom. First released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, an enhanced version subtitled Dark Arisen was later released for the same consoles in 2013, with ports releasing for Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in the ensuing years. Set in Gransys, a high fantasy world inspired by Sicily, the player takes on the role of a human protagonist dubbed the Arisen on a quest to defeat the dragon Grigori, a being said to herald the world's end, while uncovering a deeper conspiracy along the way.

The gameplay focuses on the Arisen—a customizable avatar—exploring Gransys completing quests and fighting monsters in real-time combat. The protagonist is accompanied by Pawns, characters who provide combat support and advice; the protagonist has one customized Pawn, and two additional Pawns either pre-set within the game or other customized Pawns shared by other players through an online lobby. Both standard combat and boss battles involve grappling with or climbing on enemies.

Dragon's Dogma was conceptualized by director Hideaki Itsuno in 2000 and the project was successfully pitched the project and production began in 2008. The 150-strong staff, who had previously worked on Capcom franchises such as Street Fighter, Breath of Fire, and Devil May Cry, took inspiration from Devil May Cry. The music, led by Tadayoshi Makino and including contributions from Israeli-American composer Inon Zur, used a full orchestra and focused on ambiance. Dark Arisen was designed to incorporate fan feedback and offer a complete experience for both old and new players.

Dragon's Dogma received positive reviews from critics, who praised its gameplay, but generally criticized the narrative for being lacking. The original game and Dark Arisen had sold 7.9 million units by September 2023. A Japan-exclusive massively multiplayer online role-playing game, Dragon's Dogma Online, released in 2015. An original net animation adaptation was globally released on Netflix in 2020. A sequel, Dragon's Dogma 2, was released in 2024.

Undoubtably one of the biggest moves in the history of this great industry, #Microsoft announced they intend to acquire #ActivisionBlizzard in an all-cash transaction valued at $68.7 billion.

#Microsoft will become the world’s third-largest gaming company by revenue, behind #Tencent and #Sony. #Warcraft, #Diablo, #Overwatch #CallofDuty #CandyCrush are just some of the iconic franchise that will reside under Microsoft.

With so much to unpack, the lad try to approach it from multiple perspectives. How do they feel personally, will this trigger some changes in their behaviour and spending habits? The Finalists for the 25^th Annual #DICEAwards have been revealed with Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart leading the pack with nine nominations. #TheGameAwards Nominees for Game of the Year came under fire for #ForzaHorizon5 not making the cut. Has the industry now dismissed this noise as sour grapes from the fanboys or are they suffering with genre snobbery? #Sony have a surprisingly strong presence at the #DICEAwards, did the #PlayStation have a deceptively strong 2021?

#Techland stirred up an awful lot of people when they proudly announced that #DyingLight2 will require “at least 500 hours” to fully complete. The Game Awards 2021 had the nominees for this year’s event and as usual there was controversy at the final list. OpenCritic’s highest scoring game, Forza Horizon 5 is the biggest omission and has got the conversation started around whether the jury are displaying a bit of genre snobbery by not including it.

Xbox celebrated its 20^th Anniversary in style by shadow dropping the beta of Halo Infinite’s Multiplayer offering. We have a quick recap of some Xbox memories and then dive straight into hands on impressions. Gameplay, fun factor and the controversial progression system are all discussed and debated.

The PS5 was released one year ago in the UK this past week and the lads chat about what has been a rollercoaster year for the brand. Strong sales and market appeal have been shrouded by a number of negative stories, including the cancellation of games, spotty communication and perceived lack of value when compared to their competitors.

The rumour mill was running in overdrive this weekend with heavy speculation that Microsoft could be planning a surprise early release of the Multiplayer component to Halo Infinite. The data miners suggest that this could be as early as November 15^th and will be during the special 20^th Anniversary Xbox Live Stream. Could Microsoft really be this bold and is it a sound business move? There are rumblings of an Early Access Digital Bundle that is the first indication of a plan to allow some Halo Infinite players to start playing before the game’s release date so the lad wonder if this could indeed become a pattern developing.

The Xbox Series console had its 1^st Birthday this past week. The chaps look back on their year with Microsoft’s new generation of consoles and believe there are brighter days ahead for the Greenbloods.

Forza Horizon 5 has launched to a stunning 92 score on OpenCritic, the highest score of the year so far. But why are people reluctant to discuss this is a genuine Game of the Year contender? When was the last time that a Racing Game won Game of the Year and is the shun of the genre valid?

Almost a million people have been playing Forza Horizon 5 this past weekend thanks to the paid Early Access options to players. It’s clearly a lucrative money-making opportunity that Microsoft have exploited. Is it truly “Early Access” or is access to the game actually behind a carefully constructed paywall? Give the success seen here, how do we feel about this being extended to other games under the house of Microsoft? Would people be so willing accept this if a similar scenario plays out for the upcoming Starfield?

It had been almost two decades since the last original Metroid game was released. Metroid Dread finally blesses fans with another 2D entry into this famous franchise and promises to end a narrative that has spanned 35 years. With so much expectation and baggage, how does Metroid Dread stack up? Is it a genuine Game of the Year contender or another overblown Nintendo IP living off the past?

Battlefield 2042 is the other big shooter that recently had a public beta, we have hands on impressions to share. Hugely buggy and fraught with issues, can this juggernaut keep Battlefield fans happy when it releases later this year.

Sony’s transition to the PC market took a huge step this past week as they announced the hugely popular and critically acclaimed, God of War, will be coming to a PC near you. This savvy business decision has ruffled some feathers amongst PlayStation fans with some questioning why they should have a console if all their games are going to come to PC. Do they have a point or is it an overaction?

Xbox Game Pass failed to meet Microsoft’s internal targets, but as a consumer should we be concerned or is this just a bump in the road in the billionaire’s playground? The value proposition of Game Pass is there for all to see but how has it changed our spending habits and long term, could there be some unforeseen consequences?

Ubisoft released their second paid content expansion for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, The Siege of Paris and we have hands on impressions of what is on offer. Wrath of the Druids was a disappointing addition to the game, so all eyes are on The Siege of Paris to see whether they can steer the ship in the right direction.

Nintendo has released further details of the “Expansion Pack” to its online service. We now have a release date and pricing. Nintendo capped off a busy week by announcing the last free update to the popular Animal Crossing: New Horizons and the first paid expansion to the game, dubbed “Happy Home Paradise”. “Happy Home Paradise” will be included with the aforementioned online “Expansion Pack”, making this a unique proposition. EA Sports and FIFA appear to be going head-to-head over the licensing for the juggernaut sports title. Rumours suggest that FIFA are asking for $1billion over a 4-year period, with EA looking to adopt a new name for the football simulation. The lads dive into all this and update the Gaming Hype List for the final time in 2021.

Outer Wilds is a 2019 action-adventure game developed by Mobius Digital and published by Annapurna Interactive for Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. In the game, the player-character finds themselves on a planet with only 22 minutes before the local sun goes supernova and kills them. The player continually repeats this 22-minute cycle by learning details that can help alter the outcome on later playthroughs. It received critical acclaim and won several awards, including game of the year. Resident Evil 2 is a survival horror game developed and published by Capcom. A remake of the 1998 game of the same name, it was released for Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on January 25, 2019. Players control rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy and college student Claire Redfield as they attempt to escape Raccoon City during a zombie outbreak. The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan is an interactive drama survival horror video game developed by Supermassive Games and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. It is the first of eight planned instalments in The Dark Pictures Anthology series, and was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on 30 August 2019. A Plague Tale: Innocence is an action-adventure horror stealth game developed by Asobo Studio and published by Focus Home Interactive. It was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in May 2019, and received generally positive reviews from critics. Disco Elysium is a role-playing video game developed and published by ZA/UM. The game takes place in a large city still recovering from a war decades prior to the game's start, with players taking the role of an amnesic detective who has been charged with solving a murder mystery. During the investigation, he comes to recall events about his own past as well as current forces trying to affect the city. Inspired by Infinity Engine–era role-playing games, particularly Planescape: Torment, Disco Elysium was written and designed by Estonian novelist Robert Kurvitz. It features a distinctive watercolour art style, and music by the band British Sea Power. It was released for Microsoft Windows on 15 October 2019, with PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch releases planned for 2020. Disco Elysium is a non-traditional role-playing game featuring no combat. Instead, resolution of events are done though skill checks and dialog trees via a system of 24 skills that represent different aspects of the protagonist, such as their pain threshold and perception. In addition, a system called the "Thought Cabinet" represents his other ideologies and personality traits, with players having the ability to freely support or suppress them. The game was based on a tabletop role-playing game setting that Kurvitz had previously created, with him forming ZA/UM in 2016 as a way to build out the game. The game takes place in the Sengoku period in Japan, and follows a shinobi known as Wolf as he attempts to take revenge on a samurai clan who attacked him and kidnapped his lord. It was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on 22 March 2019. Gameplay is focused on stealth, exploration, and combat, with a particular emphasis on boss battles. Although most of the game takes place in fictional areas, some areas are inspired by real-world buildings and locations in Japan. The game also makes strong references to Buddhist mythology and philosophy. While creating the game, director Hidetaka Miyazaki wanted to create a new intellectual property (IP) that marked a departure from the Souls series of games also made by FromSoftware, and looked to series such as The Mysterious Murasame Castle and Tenchu for inspiration. Sekiro received universal acclaim from critics, who commonly compared and contrasted it to the Souls games. While its high level of difficulty received some criticism, praise was directed toward its gameplay and setting. By August 2019, the game had shipped 3.8 million copies worldwide. Apps sits down with Adkins to review Animal Crossing: New Horizons! Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a 2020 life simulation video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. The fifth main series title in the Animal Crossing series, New Horizons's development was confirmed at a Nintendo Direct in 2018, and its release date slated for 2019. Gameplay footage was released at E3 2019, where it was announced that the game's title would be New Horizons and that its release date would be delayed. The game was released on March 20, 2020. New Horizons sees the player assuming the role of a customizable character who moves to a deserted island after purchasing a deserted island package from Tom Nook, a tanuki character who has appeared in every entry in the Animal Crossing series. Taking place in real-time, the player can explore the island in a nonlinear fashion, gathering and crafting items, catching insects and fish, and developing the island into a community of anthropomorphic animals. New Horizons was a commercial and critical success. Its physical copy launch sales in Japan broke the record held by Pokémon Sword and Shield for the biggest Switch game debut in the region. It has received acclaim from critics, with many praising its gameplay and customization options. The game's success has been partially attributed to it being released during the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic, with players seeking a sense of normality amidst worldwide shelter-in-place orders.
