Senator London P. Lamar is a Memphis-based legislator and strategist who represents Tennessee’s 33rd Senate District, which includes parts of Memphis and Shelby County. She is the youngest woman and the youngest African-American to serve in the Tennessee State Senate. She serves as Chair of the Tennessee Senate Democratic Caucus, where she helps manage caucus messaging, coordinates priorities, and elevates an agenda grounded in community needs. In the Senate, Lamar serves on the Judiciary Committee, the Finance Committee, and the Joint Ways and Means Committee—positions that place her at the center of policy, public safety, and budget decisions impacting families statewide. Before joining the Senate, Lamar served four years in the Tennessee House of Representatives (District 91).

In 2022, she was appointed by the Shelby County Commission to fill the District 33 vacancy and later won election to continue serving her community. Her public service is defined by a consistent focus: strong schools, healthy families, and safe communities. Senator Lamar is widely recognized for her leadership on maternal health equity and policies that reduce preventable maternal morbidity and mortality. In 2024, legislation associated with her maternal health work advanced reforms connected to the state’s maternal mortality review and prevention efforts. She has also elevated community-based, evidence-informed solutions that strengthen outcomes for mothers and babies across Tennessee. She earned her B.A. from Saint Mary’s College and remains committed to developing the next generation of civic leaders through advocacy, community partnership, and public service.

Dr. Bernice A. King is a global thought leader, strategist,

solutionist, orator, peace advocate, and CEO of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center For Nonviolent Social Change (The King Center), which was founded by her mother as the official living memorial to the life, work, and legacy of her father. In this position, Bernice continues to advance her parents’ legacy of nonviolent social change through policy, advocacy, research, as well as education & training through the Kingian philosophy of

nonviolence, which she re-branded Nonviolence365® (NV365). Through her work at The King Center, she educates youth and adults around the world about the nonviolent principles and strategies modeled by her parents.

Under her leadership, theCenter has implemented numerous initiatives reaching over 500,000 people around the world, including the Beloved Community Leadership Academy, Students with King, NV365 Education & Training, and The Beloved Community Talks, a courageous conversations platform about the difficult racial and social justice issues impacting our world. Dr. King led the development of an NV365 certification program for trainers, which provides individuals with the opportunity to teach the NV365 curriculum on behalf of The King Center. She is an instructor for the program and a trainer.

Dr. King received both a Doctor of Jurisprudence (JD) and a Master of Divinity (MDiv) Degree from Emory University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Spelman College. From 1990 -1992 she served as a law clerk for Judge Glenda Hatchett, the Chief Judge of The Fulton County Juvenile Detention Court. She served for seven years as an Assistant Pastor of Greater Rising Star Baptist Church in Atlanta where she organized and developed several new ministries. In 2007, she established the Be A King Scholarship in honor of her mother at Spelman College. Dr. King spearheaded the 2013 “Let Freedom Ring” event commemorating the 50th Anniversary of The March on Washington and her father’s “I Have a Dream” speech. The global event included President Barack Obama, President Bill Clinton, and President Jimmy Carter, members

of Congress, as well as many other international leaders, dignitaries, and entertainers. In March 2018, Dr. King was fortunate to have a private audience with his holiness, Pope Francis. In 2020, she was influential in encouraging Atlanta Business leaders to actively support major racial equity and social justice issues, including the successful passage of Georgia’s Hate Crime legislation.

Dr. King has received numerous awards and recognitions. She is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, admitted since 1992; a registered mediator through the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution; a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated (AKA), the Rotary Club of Atlanta, the International Women’s Forum (IWF), the

National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), and the 50th Anniversary class of Leadership Atlanta (2020); a board member of The King Center, and The National Black Bank Foundation (NBBF). Dr. King is an innovative, inspirational, and transformational leader. She is devoted to advancing

CeCe Jones-Davis is an award-winning faith leader, impact strategist, musician, and public theologian who works at the powerful intersection of faith, art, and social justice. With a heart rooted in ministry and a voice that echoes across grassroots movements and national stages, she devotes her life to pointing people toward the All-Powerful and the least powerful.

For more than two decades, CeCe has mobilized communities, advised campaigns, and partnered with cultural institutions and global brands to advance equity, compassion, and systemic change. From fighting for HIV/AIDS interventions and menstrual justice to leading national movements against the death penalty, her work spans both street-level action and high-level advocacy in policy, media, and government. She served in the Obama Administration under U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Ron Kirk and played a pivotal role as the founder of the #JusticeforJulius campaign, which successfully halted the execution of Julius Jones in Oklahoma just hours before his scheduled death in 2021. Most recently, CeCe served as Special Advisor of Advocacy and Strategy to the White House for the #IStandWithRavi campaign, successfully advocating to the Biden Administration for a presidential pardon on behalf of beloved immigrant rights leader, Ravi Ragbir. These outcomes have only been achieved by a fraction of advocacy campaigns in U.S. history, and a testament to CeCe’s leadership and the power of grassroots faith-based organizing against the odds.

An ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), CeCe is also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She holds degrees and certificates from Howard University, Yale Divinity School, the Yale Institute of Sacred Music, and Georgetown University, and was named an inaugural member of the Obama Foundation’s Leaders USA program.

Reverend Doctor Nicole Massie Martin was born and educated in Baltimore, Maryland. She graduated magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University with a triple major in Human and Organizational Development, Educational Studies, and French. Dr. Martin received her Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary and earned a Doctor of Ministry from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.

Dr. Martin serves as the Chief Operating Officer at Christianity Today. She is the founder and Executive Director of Soulfire International Ministries, which accelerates thriving for pastors, churches, and younger leaders. She is also active in her local congregation in Maryland at Kingdom Fellowship AME Church where she leads the Grow Ministry.

Dr. Martin is a gifted writer and author of numerous articles including three books: Nailing It: Why Successful Leadership Demands Suffering & Surrender, Made to Lead: Empowering Women for Ministry and Leaning In, Letting Go: A Lenten Devotional. She serves on the executive council of the National Association of Evangelicals, the board of trustees at Fuller Theological Seminary, and on the National Advisory Council for the Salvation Army. She is a founding board member of the Center for Christianity and Public Life and has been inducted into the esteemed Board of Preachers at Morehouse College. Dr. Martin is married to her best friend, Dr. Mark Martin, and they have two amazing daughters.

The Rev. Nontombi Naomi Tutu knew from early in life that the one thing she would never be is a priest. She has always said, “I have my father’s nose, I do not want his job” However, after years spent as a development consultant, educator and race and gender activist she accepted her call to ordained ministry. She is an Episcopal priest who most recently was Associate Rector at All Saints, Beverly Hills.

The challenges of growing black and female in apartheid South Africa have been the foundation of Naomi’s life as an activist for human rights. Those experiences taught her that our whole human family loses when we accept situations of oppression, and how the teaching and preaching hate and division injure us all.

Rev. Tutu is the third child Archbishop Desmond and Nomalizo Leah Tutu. She was born in South Africa and had the opportunity to live in many communities and countries. She was educated in Swaziland, the US and England, and has divided her adult life between South Africa and the US. Growing up the ‘daughter of …’ has offered Naomi Tutu many opportunities and challenges in her life. Perhaps one of the greatest challenges she has struggled with is the call to ministry. This call refused to be silenced, even as she carried her passion for justice into other fields, the call to preach and serve as an ordained clergyperson continued to tug at her. Finally, in her 50’s she responded to the call and went to seminary.

Her professional experience ranges from being a development consultant in West Africa, to being program coordinator for programs on Race and Gender and Gender-based Violence in Education at the African Gender Institute at the University of Cape Town. In addition, Rev. Tutu has taught at the University of Hartford, University of Connecticut and Brevard College in North Carolina. She served as Program Coordinator for the historic Race Relations Institute at Fisk University and was a part of the Institute’s delegation to the World Conference Against Racism in Durban.

She started her public speaking as a college student at Berea College in Kentucky in the 1970’s when she was invited to speak at churches, community groups and colleges and universities about her experiences growing up in apartheid South Africa. Since that time, she has become a much sought-after speaker to groups as varied as business associations, professional conferences, elected officials and church and civic organizations.

As well as speaking and preaching Rev. Tutu has established Nozizwe Consulting. Nozizwe means Mother of Many Lands, in her mother tongue Xhosa and is the name she was given by her maternal grandmother. The guiding principle of Nozizwe Consulting is to bring different groups together to learn from and celebrate their differences and acknowledge their shared humanity. As part of this work, she has led Truth and Reconciliation Workshops for groups dealing with different types of conflict. She has also offered educational and partnership trips to South Africa for groups as varied as high schools, churches, hospices, K-12 teachers, and women’s associations. These trips emphasize the opportunities to share our stories and experiences.

Rev. Tutu is the recipient of four honorary doctorates from universities and colleges in the US and Nigeria. She serves as a Priest Associate at All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Atlanta. She previously served as a curate at Christ Church Cathedral, Canon Missioner for Racial and Economic Equity, and Canon Missioner for Kairos West Community Center for the Cathedral of All Souls, in Asheville, NC, and Associate Rector, at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Beverly Hills. She is the single mother of two daughters and a son.

Prof. Allan Aubrey Boesak studied Theology at the Theological Seminary of the Dutch Reformed Mission Church at the University of the Western Cape, was ordained in Immanuel Dutch Reformed Mission Church in Paarl in 1968 at age 22. In 1970 he started advanced studies at the Theological University at Kampen in the Netherlands, and was awarded the Doctor’s degree in Theology in June 1976. A week after the Soweto Uprisings, he returned to South Africa to become Chaplain to students at the University of the Western Cape, Peninsula Technicon, and Bellville Teachers College, and then minister at Bellville Dutch Reformed Mission Church.

Dr. Boesak served the church in various ecumenical positions, including as Moderator of his church, Senior Vice President of the South African Council of Churches, and President of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches, representing over 70 million Reformed Christians in 150 countries. Under his leadership the WARC declared apartheid a sin and a heresy and suspended the two white Dutch Reformed churches in South Africa for their moral and theological justification of the apartheid system. Over the years, Dr. Boesak became a world-renowned liberation theologian and a coveted speaker at global ecumenical events. In October 2017 Yale University Divinity School hosted him as the Lyman Beecher Lecturer, its most prestigious lectureship series.

Dr. Boesak’s involvement in public life and South Africa’s freedom struggle began in 1976 with his leading role in resistance politics in South Africa. In 1983 he called for the formation of the United Democratic Front which would grow into the largest, nonviolent, non-racial anti-apartheid formation in the history of the struggle. A fervent believer in direct, militant, nonviolent action, he became its most visible leader at home and abroad. He worked with President Nelson Mandela, Archbishop Tutu, Rev. Frank Chikane, Rev Beyers Naudé and a whole array of African and world leaders to end apartheid. Prof. Boesak is recipient of fourteen honorary Doctor’s degrees and more than twenty international awards. Among those are the Robert Kennedy Human Rights Award, the Champion for Justice Award from the Indiana Centre for Middle East Peace, the Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Award from the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Atlanta Georgia USA, among many others.

Allan Boesak is an award-winning author of 24 books. His most recent publications include Pharaohs on Both Sides of the Blood-red Waters, Prophetic Critique on Empire - Resistance, Justice and the Power of the Hopeful Sizwe (2017); Children of the Waters of Meribah - Black Liberation Theology, the Miriamic Tradition, and the Challenges of 21st Century Empire, (2019), Selfless Revolutionaries: Biko, Black Consciousness, Black Theology, and a Global Ethic of Solidarity and Resistance (2021), and, co-authored with Rev Judge Wendell Griffen, Parables, Politics, and Prophetic Faith, Hope and Perseverance in Times of Peril, (2023). Published in 2024 is his most recent work, The Fire, the River, and the Scorched Earth Between: Fifty Years of Black Liberation Theology through the Lens of Allan Aubrey Boesak a 4-Volume set containing the texts of a series of public lectures on Black Liberation Theology, essays, and sermons. Prof Boesak has taught across the world, and continues his teaching and preaching while remaining active in global struggles for human rights. He is married to renowned investigative journalist Dr. Elna Boesak.

Previously, as Interim President (the first black president of the nearly 100-year old institution), she successfully navigated the university through the COVID-19 pandemic, launched a $65 million comprehensive campaign, and championed conversations on race and social justice.

A former General Attorney for the U.S. Department of Education and General Counsel for the Tennessee State Board of Education, Dannelle has shaped policies protecting students' rights and expanding access to quality education. A TEDx speaker and national voice on free speech in higher education, she brings an authentic and strategic perspective to leadership. Recognized as a 40 Under 40 honoree by the Nashville Business Journal, she holds a J.D. from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, and a B.S. from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (an HBCU). Deeply engaged in her community, she serves as Board Chair for the Pleasant Green Community Development Corporation and remains an active mentor and civic leader. Rev. Barbara D. Jones serves as founder and president of Walking Anew, Inc., an organization that aims to create dignified and unified communities for Black and Brown people locally and globally. Walking Anew has served various communities throughout the nation since 2017.

Barbara has served in numerous countries, leading missional teams around the world and utilizes her expertise to effectively aid and disciple others in creating Biblical unity and developing intercultural competencies. She is a Qualified Administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory, an Executive Coach, Speaker and Ordained Minister, who serves in partnership with the Christian Cultural Intelligence Group.

As a leader, missionary and consultant for the past 28 years, Barbara has developed several training modules to educate and coach hundreds of executive leaders, in government, corporate, denominational ministries and communities. She travels extensively as a speaker and has been invited into several podcast communities. Additionally, she continues to work with numerous local and global centered organizations, around the world. Her literary contributions include a published interview with BARNA, an organization that researches cultural and religious trends, as well as a chapter in the recently published Hear Us Emmanuel: Another Call for Racial Reconciliation, Representation, and Unity in the Church.

Her dissertation emphasis was Spiritual Direction for Ministry Leaders.

Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church as Minister of Christian Education and as

Director of Christian Education with the American Baptist Churches of the South. In

1992 she found M.A.P.S (Mission Against Premarital Sex) Ministries and in 1996 she

founded Providence Ministries which included serving women who’s husbands were

involved in professional sports.

She serves as a spiritual leader for individuals and groups, desiring them to experience a deeper relationship with God that propels them to accomplish all they are called to be and to do.Dr. Peacock enjoys traveling, writing, and exercising. She is married to Gilbert, and they are the owners of Freedom Financial Advantage. The Peacocks have one daughter, Vernee. She is married to Michael. Michael Robinson’s research interests address the health and well-being of African Americans and other underserved populations, particularly in relation to substance abuse and mental disorders. Robinson’s work has appeared in publications such as the Journal of Social Work Education and “The Handbook of African American Health: Social and Behavioral Interventions.” He is currently serving a three year appointment as a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of Social Work Education. He has also assisted the Council on Social Work Education through appointments to the Council for Racial Ethnic and Cultural Diversity and the Commission for Diversity and Social and Economic Justice.

He currently directs the school’s Maymester program in Northern Ireland and is the social work unit coordinator for the Marriage and Family Therapy Certificate Program.Robinson’s teaching philosophy centers on experiential and team-based learning. His students’ community engagement projects foster self-respect and dignity among marginalized populations while helping students apply textbook lessons to real-life situations. Episode Description: In this episode, Ekemini and Christina are sitting at the table with Dr. Terence Lester. Dr. Terence Lester is a storyteller, public scholar, speaker, community activist, and author who is the Founder and Executive Director of Love Beyond Walls, a nonprofit organization focused on raising poverty and homelessness awareness and community mobilization.

At the age of sixteen, Terence was a high-school dropout and a member of a gang. A rebellious teen, he lived on the streets and even attempted to take his own life. At twenty, he was arrested.

In jail, he met a man who talked to him about life decisions. It was the first time he had ever heard the good news. By the start of the following year, he was submitting to a call to share his testimony to change the lives of others.

Three ideals drive Terence: (1) anyone can make a difference, (2) we don’t live forever, (3), and it’s worth dedicating one’s life to ensuring no one feels invisible. He’s known for nationwide campaigns that bring awareness to homelessness, poverty, and economic inequality. His awareness campaigns have been featured on MLK50, CNN, Good Morning America, Essence Magazine and TEDx. These campaigns have been viewed by millions of people worldwide. Terence’s approach combines storytelling and digital media to help illustrate social justice issues with practical strategies to solve these ailments. He holds an A.A. in Media Production (2005), a B.A. in Pastoral Leadership (2008), a Master of Education in Counseling (2010), a Master of Arts in Theological Studies (2012), and a Ph.D. from Union Institute and University with a concentration in Public Policy and Social Change (2023).

He also has a children’s book coming out with IVP Kids that he co-authored with his fourteen-year-old daughter, Zion Lester, which deals with homelessness, belonging, inclusion, and encouraging children to serve others with empathy and compassion. Terence is happily married to his best friend, Cecilia Lester, and they have two amazing children, Zion Joy and Terence II.
