In August, 2014, 16 sharks players from 2011 plead guilty to unwittingly taking banned substances and accepted 12-month bans that were backdated to November, 2013 for their involvement. The bans saw them sit out of the remaining few weeks of the season. This is the events that lead to one of the NRL's biggest scandals.

Michael Dwayne Vick (born June 26, 1980) is a former American football quarterback who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 13 seasons. Regarded as having transformed the quarterback position with his rushing abilities, he was the first NFL quarterback to rush for 1,000 yards in a season and holds the quarterback rushing yards record at 6,109. He played college football at Virginia Tech, where he received first-team All-American honors, and was selected first overall by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2001 NFL Draft. During his six years with the Falcons, Vick was named to three Pro Bowls while leading the team on two playoff runs, one division title, and an appearance in the NFC Championship Game.

Vick's NFL career came to a halt in 2007 after he pleaded guilty for his involvement in a dog fighting ring and spent 21 months in federal prison. His arrest and subsequent conviction garnered Vick notoriety with the general public, which lasted throughout the rest of his career. He was released by the Falcons shortly before leaving prison.

After serving his sentence, Vick signed with the Philadelphia Eagles for the 2009 season. As a member of the Eagles for five years, he enjoyed his greatest statistical season in 2010, earning him Comeback Player of the Year and a fourth Pro Bowl selection. In his final two seasons, Vick played for the New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers for one year each, primarily as a backup. He officially retired in 2017 after spending the entirety of the 2016 season in free agency.

The Melbourne Storm salary cap breach was a major breach of the National Rugby League's strictly enforced salary cap by the Melbourne Storm club over a period of five years. The discovery of these breaches in 2010 by the NRL resulted in it stripping the Storm of all honors achieved as a team between 2006 and 2010. This included the 2007 and 2009 premierships and 2006, 2007 and 2008 minor premierships. Melbourne also had its 2010 World Club Challenge title revoked, more than one year since the initial penalties were first announced.

Episode 6 is an unusual episode; it is in fact a double header. As a fan of both true crime and sport a period of deep fascination for me is America in the Late 70’s to the early 90’s. The invention of cable tv meant athletes were no longer confined to the back pages of the broadsheet, but rather became cultural icons and as well know as movie stars and musician’s. The birth of the athlete as the celebrity in conjunction with so many socio-cultural factors in the wake of Vietnam made it the perfect breeding ground for many of the athletes that feature in my episodes. This episode features on Willie Aikens, “Fast” Eddie Johnson and the crack cocaine epidemic.

Marlon King was Born and raised in south London, he started his career in non-League football with Dulwich Hamlet. He went on to play for Barnet, Gillingham, Leeds United and Nottingham Forest before moving to Watford in 2005. While at Watford he was the Championships top goal scorer and in drove Watford to promotion to the premier league. He also spent time at Wigan, Hull, Middlesbrough and Coventry city. He has also been capped and scored for Jamaica,

He has served three jail sentences and has a number of other criminal convictions including: theft from a person and from a car, criminal damage, and attempting to obtain property by deception; fraudulent use of vehicle licence document, driving without insurance, speeding, drink driving; a wounding incident while playing amateur football, and two cases involving assault of young women rejecting his advances in the Soho area of London. King had his playing contract cancelled by Wigan after being convicted of the sexual assault charges and being sentenced to eighteen months in prison.

Vol. 2 Lawrence Phillips

Lawrence Lamond Phillips was a professional American football and Canadian football running back. A two-time college football national champion with the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Phillips played in the National Football League for the St. Louis Rams, Miami Dolphins, and San Francisco 49ers from 1996 through 1999, and for the Montreal Alouettes and Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League in 2002 and 2003.

Phillips' career was overshadowed by his inability to stay out of trouble off the field, a trend that dated back to his collegiate days. He was arrested several times from 1995 to 2005. In 2015, Phillips was charged with the murder of his former cellmate, Damion Soward, and arguably could have faced the death penalty. Phillips died by suicide on January 13, 2016 at Kern Valley State Prison in Delano, California.

This is his story.

Vol. 2 Ben Cousins

Ben Cousins is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for West Coast and Richmond in the Australian Football League (AFL).During his 12-year, 238-game career with West Coast, he won several of the league's highest individual awards, including a Brownlow Medal, Most Valuable Player and a premiership medallion. Cousins' football career was marred by highly publicised off-field incidents involving recreational drug use, traffic convictions and association with criminal elements. On several occasions he was fined or sanctioned by West Coast, culminating in his contract's termination in October 2007.The following month, he was banned from AFL for one year by the AFL Commission for "bringing the game into disrepute.

Post-football, Cousins continued to struggle with his drug addiction and have run-ins with the law, and in 2017 he received a 12-month prison sentence for a variety of offences.

Johnson was born on the 14^th of July 1987 in Sunderland, in North East England. He rose to prominence in 2004 coming through the ranks at Middlesbrough making 96 appearances, significant transfers to Manchester City and Sunderland followed. In March 2015, Johnson was arrested and charged over sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl. One year later Johnson was found guilty of sexual activity with a child and sentenced to six years in prison.

Vol. 2 Robert Rozier

Born in Alaska but raised in California, Rozier was a high-school and collegiate athlete before briefly playing professional American and Canadian football. In the 1980s he joined the Nation of Yahweh, and by Halloween 1986 had killed at least four Floridians on behalf of the religious group. After turning state's evidence, Rozier was sentenced to 22 years in prison, but was paroled after ten and put into Witness Protection. At the turn of the century, Rozier was caught bouncing checks and sentenced to 25 years-to-life under that state's three-strikes law.

Episode 4 features Paul Hayward Paul Hayward was a tough, pugnacious five eight for the Newtown Jets rugby league side that featured in the New South Wales RFL. Paul Hayward was often described as blue collar tough, having mixed professional Rugby league and Professional boxing during the early part of the 1970’s. In 5 seasons at Newtown he amassed 76 matches scoring 14 tries and kicked 43 goals. His career was ultimately cut short owing to his arrest and imprisonment in Thailand on drug smuggling charges.

In his career he amassed a staggering 391 appearances for Arsenal a further 17 for Fulham and 19 international caps between 1962-1975.On the pitch he was often described as a hatchet man by opposition and “an assassin” by team-mates. Off the field he was quiet and reserved, the last person you would predict would end up running a Brothel, Importing Pornography, colluding with notorious gangsters and calling prison home twice.

After a brief stint with the Wisconsin based franchise Woodfield became one of the most violent killers in U.S. history. He is more commonly referred to as the I-5 killer.

He is the son of Hall of Fame Tight End Kellen Winslow Sr and was drafted 6th by the Cleveland Browns. Owing to a spree of sexual misconduct charges he is currently facing 12-18 years in prison pending sentencing.
