Everybody who sees it is overwhelmed.” On August 21st, 2017 a Total Solar Eclipse will travel coast to coast across the United States for first time since 1918 (99 years), casting a 70 mile wide shadow that will turn day to night and back to day again in a matter of minutes for those directly in its path. This extremely rare event has been hailed the “Great American Eclipse.”

After having to wait 99 years for the “Great American Eclipse”, a second Total Solar Eclipse will cross America less than 7 years later, on April 8, 2024 to be exact. To be even more exact, on April 8, 2024 that Total Solar Eclipse will pass directly over Dallas, TX of all places, birthplace of the Helping Friendly Book Club.

Haunted Travels Galveston, Texas The Hotel Galvez and Spa September 1900, a Category 4 hurricane with winds in excess of 130 mph slams into Galveston, killing more than 6,000 people. Bodies had to be buried at sea...often times only to return awash along the shore. In 1911, a hotel was built on the seawall by local businessmen to help hoist Galveston out of the shallows. The Hotel Galvez has had many a prominent guest, and many have yet to check out. During the 104-year-old historic Texas hotel’s one-hour tour, the Hotel Galvez concierge will guide guests through the hotel’s ghostly past using popular ghost hunting tools to conduct a paranormal investigation. Guests will learn about the hotel’s “Ghost Bride” and other reported strange occurrences. The tour begins at 6 p.m. and will be followed by a three-course dinner at Galvez Bar & Grill at 7 p.m.
