Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin’s wife Louise Linton has a new film coming out in a few weeks in which she plays “a materialistic, narcissistic, self-absorbed, raging misanthrope” who “may or may not have an undiagnosed personality disorder.” (In other words, a biopic.) Finally, we mourn the death of Dr. Harold Bornstein, a legend in the fields of gastroenterology and literature. R.I.P.

It’s been a terrible week, but if Joe Biden and Senate Democrats can pull off an unambiguous, sweeping victory on Tuesday, next week’s episode will consist of only YUPs.

Also on the docket: Abby Johnson and the “household vote,” Tiffany Trump’s Elvis impersonator ensemble, the gun-toting McCloskeys and so much more. Coincidence? We think not. A New Zealand man brought an emotional support clown to his layoff meeting. And a new Natalie Portman film about the astronaut who drove 900 miles wearing adult diapers so she wouldn’t have to stop to pee premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, and it was sadly missing the diapers. Rihanna is surreptitiously charging people $50 per month for the option to buy curated underwear. And professional baseball players are being laid low by gas-station Viagra.

We conclude that we’ve hit peak pop-up in San Francisco, as a bar for humans and rats to intermingle is debuting with a $50 cover charge. Also in San Francisco: a new pogo-stick rental company called Cangoroo purports to help people commute to work by hopping around on vertiginous inclines. Los Angeles real-estate brokers hosted a Hieronymus Bosch-themed party with actors dressed as Adam and Eve and embalmed snakes in cocktails. West End theatrical productions are serving culinary abominations to the audience during live shows. And, finally, we describe a job listing from Craigslist for a “pro-bonobo” receptionist. Also: technology continues to be terrible! Facebook engages in “friendly fraud” by taking money from children and gets the smackdown from Apple after running afoul of the company’s enterprise development rules. Meanwhile, a teenager in Arizona discovers a security flaw in iOS’s FaceTime; a velociraptor receptionist robot gets fired from a hotel in Japan, and Ashton Kutcher engages in a nonsensical text conversation with Rachel. Quite an eventful week.
