It's another "Match of the Week" ''Triple-Header' w/ 'Former Tag-Team Partner' & dear pal of mine, Josh for a lovely chat about three excellent Professional Wrestling matches that I made some art of. We've got Great Sasuke vs Black Tiger II (Josh's all-time favourite wrestler, Eddie Guerrero) for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship in '96 New Japan, the recently retired rudo maestro, El Satánico vs Ultimo Guerrero in a classic all-rudo 2001 CMLL Arena Mexico affair & finally, one of the final matches of the career of AJ Styles, vs Shinsuke Nakamura earlier this year - bringing back their New Japan magic on Saturday Night's Main Event in Montreal! Thanks so much Josh! I had so much fun on this one!!

In my intro monologue, I chat some recent commission work comings & goings, this past Sunday Night's big return of WRESTLING CLUB at the Scratch & some exciting upcoming events!

Episode 106 is here pals! It's another "Match of the Week" 'Double-Header' w/ 'Best Mate David' for two wonderfully contrasting matches in the form of an L.A. Park vs Rush indie-lucha-extrema bloodbath from 2017 & a Tanahashi vs Nakamura New Japan classic from Wrestle Kingdom 2014.

We chat all about both of these fantastic matches & multi-year rivalries in a classic David & Chris wild romp of a chat. In my intro monologue, amidst some shockingly loud rain I chat some very fun recent commissions (including a wonderful pet portrait), along with our upcoming CULT-LUCHA Mexican Wrestling Monster Movie Night at Netherworld & the following weeks' big return of WRESTLING CLUB at the Scratch!

Episode 105 is here pals! It's another "Match of the Week" 'Triple-Header' w/ familiar friend of the show, Joe chattin' three somewhat different but all bloody great Professional Wrestling matches! Those being Kenta Kobashi vs. Stan 'The Lariat' Hansen (July of '93), Bret 'The Hitman' Hart vs. 'British Bulldog' Davey Boy Smith (In Your House, Dec. '95) & The Great Sasuke vs. Dos Caras (Michinoku Pro 'Fukumen World League' Masked Man Tournament Final, Aug. '95).

Since I was on a time-crunch, Joe also joined me for the intro monologue (/duo-logue?) which was actually a very fun time! We talk about TWO group art shows that I am involved in this week - including a painting that I still needed to complete after we finished recording. Those being BORLFF's amazing Netherworld Radioactive Ants Group show & Mechanical Pen's Working Title Brewing "Batteries Not Included" Toy-Based Group Art Show. We also chat the night that was our recent Cult Lucha event at Netherworld; "Santo vs The Mummies of Guadalajara" & a big announcement of officially getting the train back on the track for WRESTLING CLUB at The Scratch on the last Sunday of March!

A lovely chat is had all about the matches (& my illustrations of said matches) of the following. Go Shiozaki vs Akitoshi Saito from Saito's 2024 swan-song run in Pro Wrestling NOAH, a true Lucha classic in Hijo Del Santo vs Blue Panther taking place in 2001 CMLL Japan & one of the greatest tag matches I have ever seen in the 'Indie-Sleaze-Dream-Team' of Hayabusa & Jinsei Shinzaki vs The Holy Demon Army of Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue in late 90s All Japan!

In my 'World of Chris-Things' intro monologue I talk our upcoming Cult Lucha Screening of 'Santo vs. The Mummies of Guanajuato' THIS SUNDAY NIGHT at Netherworld, an absolutely lovely Lucha Fantastica 'Love Battle' event this past weekend in Melbourne & an extra-special rant about the gentrification of CMLL. Oh boy!

Episode 102 is here pals! Today I am very excited to be chatting with my dear amigo, Portaveritas all about his & LuchaFlan's upcoming '200% MEXA' art exhibition that I am delighted to be a part of! We talk all about this very cool international Lucha Libre art exhibition celebrating Mexicano & Chicano voices. We both agree that the timing couldn't be any more perfect. We also talk Porta's upcoming multi-faceted Querétaro 'Lucha Efímera' exhibition (Porta is a very busy man!). Muchas gracias to the very kind & super talented Jesus Antonio Hernandez Rodriguez a.k.a. 'Portaveritas'.

In my opening monologue, I chat some more about the timing of this exhibition & surrounding awful current world events in the USA. How do you just create weird, irreverent wrasslin' art when the world feels like it is crumbling?I sometimes struggle to know exactly how to talk about these things in the right way, so please endure my awkwardness. But I truly appreciate everyone who is standing together for good in the face of evil at this time.

Our matches in question include an early 80s New Japan classic Lucha affair in 'Super Porky' (Brazo De Plata) vs. Tiger Mask (Satoru Sayama), a classic frenetic-paced late 90s Nitro Lucha trios with La Parka, Silver King & Psychosis vs. Rey Mysterio Jr., Juventud Guerrera & Hector Garza & finally, rounding it out with an amazingly wild, prime era FMW Tornado Tag with 'The Funk-Masters of Wrestling' (Terry Funk & 'Gladiator' Mike Awesome) vs. Hayabusa & Masato Tanaka! Those being Genichiro Tenryu vs KENTA (from 2005 Pro Wrestling NOAH), Mike Awesome vs Masato Tanaka (from ECW Heatwave '98) and the wonderfully sadomasochistic bloodbath that was KENOH vs Minoru Suzuki (from 2024 Pro Wrestling NOAH). We actually got to enjoy those first two together at a recent 'Wrestling Club' with Chris Things at The Scratch, so I felt there couldn't be anyone more perfect to chop it up with about these classics than my dearest long-time pal from across the pond. We talk all about these matches, my illustrations of said matches & a heck of a lot of nonsense - not limited to the 1977 B-Grade Action classic that was Rolling Thunder!

Episode 78 is here pals! It's the "Match of the Week" Edition w/ the esteemed Unkle of Beeks for a very special Sabu Tribute Triple-Header edition of the show! We have a good little ol' chat abut Sabu's special (& unique) place in wrasslin'-history & talk 3 of my very favourite Sabu matches! We start with Sabu vs La Parka from 2002 MLW, then a classic mid-90s indie romp that was the '94 Sabu vs Cactus Jack 'Desert-Death-Falls-Count-Anywhere-Match' at the Silver Nugget Casino. Followed last by one of Sabu's most infamous matches; the dreaded 'Born to Be Wired' '97 ECW No-Ropes Barbed Wire match against Terry Funk! A heck of a trio if I do say so myself along with all the rambling nonsense that happens when Jeremey & I chat - from the Godfather trilogy to 'High Voltage' to Cannibal Holocaust! It's a heck of a ride!

In my 'World of Chris-Things' intro monologue I chat my recent comings and goings, the question of creative 'burnout', the new book launch and getting out of those creative funk-days.

We have a lot of fun talking all about this one, my illustration and some way-cool behind the scenes goss on putting this together and the legitimate feelings of danger and possible lawsuits that this incredible brawl would instil.

In my 'World of Chris-Things' intro monologue I chat about my recent art creating, my various in-person art events AND getting to do a way-cool coaster Linoprint Art Workshop this past Sunday at the Scratch (which may or may not be wrestling-themed ...okay, it was definitely wrestling-themed).

It's the "Match of the Week" Edition w/ the esteemed Unkle of Beeks back for the first time in far too long, chattin' two particularly interesting 'Matches of the Week' that are the Sabu swan-song of Sabu vs Joey Janela in a No-Ropes Barbed Wire Match from earlier this year, as well as the totally tremendous Terry Funk vs The Sheik last ever singles match from 1994 in FMW. We brave some technical difficulties for what I feel was a way-fun rambling chat that everyone has come to expect from two proud ADHD wrasslin'-nerds.

Episode 71 is here pals! We're back at it, chattin' some Match of the Week goodness with 3 of my most favourite matches that I watched & made illustrations of in recent weeks'. I'm also stoked to be doing so with recent guest & friend of the show; Portaveritas! Who's company I happened to share for my big in-person Zona 23 experience.

We chat that Zona 23 Mexican Junkyard show in question ('Rey Del Deshuesadero 2025'), the tremendous old man Junkyard brawl of 2021 that was Mr. Condor vs. Black Terry (& a lovely little chat about the amazing legacy of the great man that was Terry) & finally something completely different in Pro Wrestling NOAH's Takashi Sugiura vs. Masa Kitamiya incredible 10 minute slugfest from May of 2024. This cross-cultural chat about some wildly varying violent Professional Wrestling was just such a fun time!

In my opening monologue, I chat about my upcoming Wrestling Club event, a highly mysterious commission job that I am very excited to be working on & gearing up for a pretty darned massive art-creating month that will be June.

Wrestling Art Ep. 64 - Chris Things MOTW w/ Richard of Video Plant: Double-Feature Edition

It's a "Match of the Week" Edition of the show w/ my good pal, Richard of Video Plant - chattin' two rather 'special' matches in honor of two recently passed wrestlers who I'm quite fond of in Gran Hamada & Osamu Nishimura. It's Gran Hamada & Satoru 'Tiger Mask' Sayama vs Perro Aguayo & Baby Face from 1980, El Toreo, Mexico, then 'Mr. Muga', Osamu Nishimura vs. Yoshihiro Takayama from the 2002 New Japan G1 Climax tournament! Two highly contrasting yet absolutely wonderful Pro Wrestling matches if I do say so myself! We chat all about these matches, my art of said matches, our love for the world of Lucha Libre Mexicana, a dive into the world of the 'El Toreo' UWA promotion, Gran Hamada's legacy, the wonder of going down these wrestling rabbit-holes & the amazing atmosphere of this era of Lucha Libre, my love for Nishimura-San, Wrestling public access TV shows, Hijo Del Santo, Portland Wrestling, retro cult movie theatre appreciation & David Lynch! Looking back, we cover quite a bit of ground!

In my 'World of Chris-Things' intro monologue I talk my recent Cyclone close call, my current solo art show coming to a close, & preparing for an upcoming Wrestling Club at the Scratch Bar.

Episode 63 is here pals! As a CYCLONE looms towards the 'Sunshine State' of the great land down under, I've got another special little solo edition of the show where I yammer on about my life this past week & a potentially incoming cyclone.

I babble on about preparing for said cyclone as best we can, worrying about my art (& our new house!), a lovely catch up with the crazy talented Gabby Vines Art, maybe doing some small original art pieces for y'all in the near future & just all the things! It's one of those 'off the top of my head' rambling mess editions of the show (buyer beware!) but I had fun. It's a nice way for me to organise my thoughts & art-priorities going forwards. Episode 62 is here pals! It's our Chris Things Art "Match of the Week" Edition w/ my dear friend Bradley, chattin' 2 of my favourite matches that we've watched of late, my illustrations of said matches, a bunch of Lucha talk & also a surprise little chat about Robert Eggers' Nosferatu! Those matches being that 2001 Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Atlantis CMLL classic (AGAIN!) & of course, the 'main event' of my most recent Wrestling Club in person event at Scratch, the year 2000's Aja Kong vs KAORU bout that likely has left quite the mark on all who've seen it!

In my "Latest in the world of Chris Things" intro monologue, I chat about the totally delightful time that was this pst weekend. Including a wonderful Lucha Fantastica event in Melbourne & getting along to The Scratch's 'big ol' Weekend of Tartness' that featured my current solo show (still up in what I assume to be it's closing days if you haven't caught it yet!) & some utterly amazing kitting out of the bar & staff to the wonderful world of Lucha Libre! I also have a little ponder about whether or not it's a bit 'wanky' for me to like to hang around my own art shows as much as I do.

Episode 60 is here pals! It's "Match of the Week" time once again, IN-PERSON with Cousin Ben, chattin' 3 matches that actually DO have something in common, the art & a heck of a lot of nonsense! These 3 bouts that I loved oh so much that are Blue Panther vs Hechicero, ZSJ vs Hechicero (that incredibly occurred this past January - 2 nights in a row!) & an all-time Lucha classic that was 2001's Atlantis vs Dr. Wagner Jr. We get into these 3 extremely fine Professional Wrestling matches in-person as Ben visits the new place up in the bug-ridden mountains of Australia's Sunshine Coast hinterland. We get sidetracked SO MANY TIMES with various delightful sidebars. This was a lot of fun.

In my 'World of Chris-Things' intro monologue I talk getting back to it after the opening night of my current solo art show at the Scratch; (Chris Things 2025: "Los Luchadores vs Alien Invaders"), returning to some Wrestling Poster design & my upcoming Wrestling Club THIS SUNDAY & Lucha Fantastica NEXT WEEKEND in Melbourne.

Episode 59 is here pals! Yes, I'm back after missing last week due to the general insanity of preparing for my latest solo art show (that just happened to take place LAST NIGHT) at my much-loved Scratch Bar. In this special solo episode I take you into the frantic, barely comprehendible ramblings of a wrestling-art-dude who's brain is melting by the minute. I talk all things about the lead up to this solo show. The good, the challenging & everything in-between. Take it as a snapshot of my current state of mind having finally put this 16 piece art show out into the world. All completed mostly over the past two weeks. We also had a really fun ALL-LUCHA edition of our Wrestling Club on the evening where I played some of my favourite lucha matches. I've included my intro speech and a little run-down of the playlist in question at the end of this episode.

I originally got to meet Erik through getting to be part of his & Luis Hernández' amazing Desde la Tercera Cuerda Lucha Libre group art exhibition at El Rule Comunidad in Mexico City. I've long been a fan of Erik's work so I was way pumped to finally get to talk to him all about it! Bright, bold, super-fun, maximalist & just totally jam-packed in the best of ways! We chat about how he originally chose to focus his art practice on Lucha Libre, the evolution of his style, influences, the magic of Lucha Libre, favourite masks & everything in between! As a lucha-loving Australian gringo, I had so much fun on this one!! Thank you Erik!!

Episode 37 is here pals! It's our Chris Things Art "Match of the Week" Edition w/ my dear friend (& fellow American Dragon aficionado), Bradley, talking the INCREDIBLE Bryan Danielson vs Shingo bout - not from this past week, but 14 years ago in Dragon Gate USA! So here's the deal, we watched the DGUSA edition as a primer for the big AEW rematch & for a variety of reasons (as we discuss), the Forbidden Door edition just couldn't reach the lofty heights of the original. So this ended up a more 'compare & contrast' look at both. Still two VERY fine professional wrestling matches might I say! Hopefully this is an interesting listen for anyone who's caught both of these matches. Chock full of glowing praise for 2 of the very best wrasslers still to this day in the American Dragon & Shingo Takagi! We also have some amusing nonsense sidebars such as a look at Ring of Honor's tin guardrails of death (that I'm still very fond of) & Robert Rodiriguez' Mariachi Trilogy.

In my intro "Latest in the world of Chris Things" segment, I talk being very excited for the upcoming Forge Forward Mini Mall Art-Market here in Brisbane, some fun commission work & some more of my Way of the Blade illustration flashbacks - including the very first illustration that I did for the book!

We talk all about both of these great, (very different) matches & a good deal of nonsense - including the fantastic exploits of Silver King - whilst keeping to a tidy, approximately 1 hour run-time!

In my 'World of Chris-Things' intro monologue I chat about my recent solo show opening night and some upcoming art-initiatives coming out of it.

This week I've got something a little different for you in the form of a chat with the esteemed creator of an amazing art installation/basement passion-project; Richard Beardsley of VIDEO PLANT!

@V ideo.Plant is a wacky, nostalgia-soaked walk down memory lane to the VHS stores of yesteryear. A ‘sanctuary’ for one of the most eclectic & amazingly, lovingly curated VHS collections (& all sorts of rad personally commissioned artworks & general ephemera) that I’ve been lucky enough to have my art become a part of. In this one we have a really fun chat about how this all came about, Pro Wrestling VHS collecting, art curation (& creation), a variety of wonderful B-Grade, schlocky cult classic goodness & the passion the melds all of this together.

In my intro monologue, I chat about my upcoming art-tabling at 'Lucha Fantastica' this weekend, & some exciting Way of the Blade updates!

Episode 9; is here! A very special episode; "Wrestling Art Curator" IS BACK! My special-edition interview series focusing on the art practices of other rad wrestling-artists! The 2nd ever guest artist being the ridiculously talented Jonathan McBurnie!!

Funnily enough, yet another fellow Aussie, Jonathan is an artist, writer, cartoonist, curator & is the Director of the Rockhampton Museum of Art. Jonathan even curated an entire wrestling-art themed art show; ‘WrestleMANIA’ at the Rockhampton Museum of Art late last year. "The exhibition examined the enigmatic entertainment of professional wrestling in all its spectacle, psychology, and humour through the work of 20 contemporary artists across sculpture, painting, cartoons, and new media". We chat some amazing behind the scenes stories of this show (including a live-wrestling portion!), Jonathan's practice, what got him into 'Wrestling Art', what interests him about this sub-genre as well as who & what most inspires him to make it. A really fun philosophical chat about fine art, wrestling & all things in-between! Thank you so much Jonathan!!

A really fun time was had chatting all the things we love about CMLL (including a lot that seem to go under-appreciated in general lucha libre discourse), the art of lucha libre in general & even a bit about David's own background as a masked wrestling fish turned hardened ex-con as 'Skinny D' of the famed 'Wacol's Most Wanted' Australian wrestling tag-team.
