Dennis J. Woodyard is an Emmy-nominated animation producer, director, writer, and artist whose career spans decades across television animation, design, and original creative development.He gained early experience in television graphics and animation before joining Rankin/Bass Productions, where he became part of the iconic ThunderCats legacy. During his time on the series, Dennis worked as a storyboard artist, designer, and writer, contributing to the show’s distinctive visual style in its later run. He is credited with writing standout episodes such as “Shadowmaster” and “Well of Doubt,” and is also recognized as the creator of the fan-favorite villain Shadowmaster.

Dennis’s career continued to expand across multiple roles in the animation industry, including work on Gargoyles and Ozzy & Drix, the latter earning him a Daytime Emmy nomination for his work in animation directing. He also served as a producer and creative contributor on the science fiction series Exosquad, showcasing his ability to lead and shape complex animated productions.

As the founder and Creative Director of Dragonfly Entertainment, Dennis created a platform to develop and produce animated entertainment across a wide range of media with innovative projects like Dragonfly Flipz, a unique animated flip-book experience that blends traditional art with interactive motion. His legacy bridges classic animation, original storytelling, and forward-thinking creative innovation, making him a truly respected and beloved figure in the world of animation.

We are back with another brand-new episode of Radical Retro Rewind! This week we’re tackling “My Little Pony: The Movie” ’from 1986, a longtime favorite of the Radical Brothers growing up.

Of course we’re keeping it retro, and in 2026 the movie turns 40, making this the perfect time to revisit a film that left a lasting mark on our childhoods. Ryan asks the big question right out of the gate: Was it actually necessary for Buttons to yell at Baby Lickety-Split? David absolutely thinks so, and the debate leads whether tough love has a place in Ponyland.

We also dig into the creeping menace of the Smooze and find out if this pastel nightmare can actually be stopped. Along the way, we make a surprising discovery about the Flutter Ponies. Not only are they powerful and mysterious, they might also be a little stuck up.

We started things off in a big way with an unforgettable interview with Terri Hawkes, we talked slashers and secrets with Trey Callaway about “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer” and “W.I.T.C.H.”, celebrated Jem’s 40th anniversary with the wonderfully kind Samantha Newark on Jerrica’s actual birthday and caught up with Michael Bailey Smith of Charmed and Fantastic Four (1994).

We shared the fun with our Radical Ones through giveaways like two pairs of Freezy Freakies gloves and were completely blown away by an incredible video message from Thomas Dekker during our “Nightmare on Elm Street” (2010) coverage for Nightmare on Elm Street Summer. 

We were honored to receive special video messages from director Christian Alvart and Kerry O’Malley during our "Case 39" episode, along with a thoughtful message from John Ottman reflecting on the "House of Wax" score for its anniversary.

This year also brought some huge firsts. We released our very first ThunderCats Holiday Video Special, along with our own retro themed album and a Christmas single.

And somehow, together, we reached 31,640 all time audio downloads. None of this happens without the listeners who show up every week, share the show, and send us so much love.

To make it even more memorable our dear friend and cohost Zack even flew in to bake his very own Snarf inspired candy fruit pie, bringing plenty of cheer and just a bit of kitchen chaos to the Cats’ Lair.

David treats us to a special reading of the second edition of “’Twas the Night Before Third Earth Christmas,” adding a cozy holiday tradition to the episode. 

We also curl up for a classic comic read as we dive into ThunderCats UK comic issue #41 from 1987, the story “Footprints.” In this chilling Rammastide tale, Cat’s Lair lies directly in the path of a mysterious and terrifying creature known as the Metokangmi! • Zack's Candyfruit Pie Recipe
• 3 1/2 cups Anjou or Bartlett pears, large dice
• 1 cup fresh strawberries, quartered
• 2/3 cup sugar
• 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves, minced (or food processed with the sugar!)
• 1/4 tsp cinnamon
• 1/8 tsp star anise
• 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
• 1/2 tsp grated grapefruit zest
• 3 tbsp instant (minute) tapioca
• Pastry for two pie crusts (one for base, one for lattice); store-bought is fine.
• 1–2 tbsp unsalted butter
• Additional sugar for sprinkling
• Food dye (optional)

Combine fruit, sugar, herbs, spices and tapioca. Let rest for 30 minutes at room temperature, stirring occasionally. Optionally, add a few drops of green food dye.

Preheat oven to 375ºF.

Roll out one pie crust and lay into a 9" pie dish. It should hang over the edge some. Lay in filling and accumulated fruity liquid to a level height.

Roll out the second pie crust (optionally adding pink or red food dye) and slice into 14–16 strips of even width, about 1/2".

Lay the strips in a grid on top of the pie, lifting every other strip as you go, over–under, to form a woven lattice. BONUS: Skewing your grid at 45 degrees to form diamonds instead of squares makes for a fancier looking lattice!

Cut off any strip excess that's hanging over the edge of the dish and then fold the bottom crust up over the strips, crimping them together all the way around.

Place pea-sized cubes of unsalted butter at every lattice intersection and then sprinkle additional sugar along the lines of the lattice.

Tent the rim of the dish with foil to protect the crust (don't fully cover it; aim for somewhere between a lampshade and a yurt) and bake for 35 minutes.

Remove or untent the foil and continue baking for another 30–40 minutes. The pie is done when the crust has browned and, crucially, the filling is visibly bubbling all over, like Mumm-Ra's cauldron. Overdone will look way too brown and underdone won't be bubbling everywhere.

Remove and rest at room temperature for at least an hour before serving.

We’re heading into the final episodes of our beloved series, and your Radical Retro Brothers welcome back our friend Zack as cohost for another double dose of kitty cat fun!

Today's double episodes starts with "Malcar":

⚡"Mumm-Ra summons Malcar, an ancient alchemist, to return from the dead. The alchemist returns old and weak, as he was when he died. Mumm-Ra takes him to the forest of youth to restore his youth and power. Malcar regains his powers and uses them against the Thundercats. He transforms all the Thunderillium on the planet into Thundrainium."

Then in "Helpless Laughter":

⚡"A convergence of the Moons of Plun-Darr causes a drought on Thundera. Panthro and Snarf go looking for water, then Ezuka, the flying Serpent of Dreary Canal wanting to get water itself, attacks Panthro and Snarf and causes them to fall into the Swamp of the Laughing Lilypads, making them laugh out of control. Ezuka attacks the Lair, still looking for water. Lion-O uses the Sword to make some rain, then he and Ben-Gali use the Thunderstrike to melt some ice, but Mumm-Ra comes along and causes a flood. Lion-O calls for the others, which also free Panthro and Snarf from the laughter and they use some of the Swamp's water to cause Mumm-Ra to laugh uncontrollably, and he falls in the flood waters and is washed away."

Originally airing on NBC on December 17, 1990, this marked Olivia Newton-John’s very first made for TV movie and it truly lives in a holiday category all its own. Grab the cocoa, plug in the Christmas lights, and join us for magic mannequins, retail romance, holiday logic that makes no sense at all!

"The story follows 11-year-old Jessica Slocum (played by Juliet Sorci), who lost her mother at a young age. With her father, Jim (Doug Sheehan), being a workaholic and emotionally distant, Jessica feels the absence of maternal love deeply. This week we are diving into the chilling world of “Case 39“ from 2009 with our amazing guest cohost and friend Cadu.

This was a first-time watch for Ryan at Cadu’s suggestion, and wow did this movie take us on a ride. Starring Renée Zellweger and directed by Christian Alvart, this supernatural thriller gave us plenty to talk about.

Emily suspects that Lilith's parents are abusive and proposes to remove the child from their custody. The situation escalates dramatically when Emily discovers that Lilith's parents, Edward and Margaret, attempt to kill her by roasting her alive in their oven. We also learn the surprising fact that Kermit and Fozzie are considered some kind of twin brothers here, complete with a father who looks suspiciously like Moss Man from He-Man. Ryan and David are back with a new bonus episode! We read a question from Karrisa about Grune & Jaga and hear the thoughts of bbg372 on season four.

Then it's a massive Metesh celebration! We read his mail and then read his epic ThunderCats “What If” five-parter imagining a smarter, more emotional retelling of "Return to Thundera"

In his version, Jaga is put on trial for destroying Thundera after the ThunderCats discover a colony of bitter Thunderian refugees led by none other than Ratar-O, now hailed as their “true lord.” Lion-O, Pumyra, and the team face moral and emotional conflicts as loyalties shift and shocking truths are revealed. We’re ending Season 5 with a little retro magic! I had the amazing opportunity to sit down and chat with Michael Bailey Smith as part of our Nightmare on Elm Street Summer! Michael famously portrayed Super Freddy in Part 5: The Dream Child!

We also dive into one of my all-time favorite shows, Charmed. Our Nightmare Summer comes to a close! For this final Freddy film, Ryan is joined by our returning guest cohost and good friend Cadu, who first met Freddy through 2010’s “A Nightmare on Elm Street” remake before going back to the original movies in the franchise.

The summer of Freddy continues! This week Ryan, Rob, and David fire up the dream machine for "Freddy’s Nightmares", the two season short-lived but unforgettable TV series hosted by the man of your nightmares himself.

We kick things off with Episode One: “No More Mr. Nice Guy”, where Freddy faces trial for his crimes—but is that really Robert Englund sitting behind the plexiglass in that courtroom?

This week on the show the end is here… or is it? Ryan and David chat "Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare" from 1991. But before diving into Springwood’s collapse and Freddy’s long-lost daughter, we kick things off by discussing the newly released Jason Universe short film “Sweet Revenge,” made in partnership with Angry Orchard. It’s the first official entry in the Jason franchise in 16 years. Can this cider-soaked mini movie capture the gory glory of the ’80s and ’90s slashers? And how does it connect back to Freddy’s world of dream-fueled chaos?

They even said they saved the best for last (spoiler… they didn’t! Ryan holds nothing back, calling the cast completely unlikable and the acting some of the weakest in the franchise. But here’s the real question: is Freddy’s Dead actually better than the movie Ryan loves to compare it to "Jason Goes to Hell?"

We also explore the theory that this isn’t the true ending to the Elm Street films at all, but instead the finale to Freddy’s Nightmares, the short-lived TV series.

We’re back in Springwood for one of the most talked about and debated entries in the franchise. David feels that die-hard Freddy fans might not enjoy this one as much since it plays more like a haunted house movie than a true Nightmare on Elm Street flick, but we’re breaking it all down.

It's time for more kitty cat fun with your Radical Retro Brothers! This week, we welcome a brand-new Bungler to the ThunderCats family and read a wonderful message that truly made our day. Listener Tim also asks a purr-fectly thought-provoking question: Why do we think ThunderCats has such a strong gay following?

Then it's on to the Season 3 finale two episodes! In the first episode, a bizarre traveling circus rolls into Third Earth, headlined by the mysterious Merna - allegedly "the most talented female mutant in the galaxy" - on her dramatic and highly suspicious farewell tour. Wilykat gets hypnotized and stows away with Captain Bragg, a bounty hunter! Later Kat winds up with full clown face paint. In the second episode, the Ancient Spirits of Evil have finally had it with Mumm-Ra's HOA violations and give him a final ultimatum: defeat the ThunderCats and conquer Third Earth by sundown or be banished forever. As Mumm-Ra kicks his evil into overdrive, the ThunderCats must stop a chain reaction of devastating earthquakes that could tear the planet apart. Meanwhile, Snarf returns to the Book of Omens to face the fiery wrath of those mystical P.F. Chang-style dragons.

And while the world's falling apart? Lynx-O, Bengali, and Pumyra are still casually cruising in the Feliner like they're on a scenic road trip. Will the ThunderCats save the planet in time? David’s answer? Oh, it’s a journey. It starts in the Lord of the ThunderCats’ bedroom, quickly escalates to taking out the Mutants and Lunataks, destroying the Black Pyramid, and then—just for good measure—cementing over the whole thing...we just may have to exercise Jaga to make it work!

Instantly the statue transforms into the murderous Leprechaun, who vows to kill anyone who takes his gold. Scott McCoy, who unwittingly took a gold coin from the pawn shop, and Tammy, Scott's new friend, are first on the list."

Meanwhile, Professor Woodard attempts to uncover the identity of the vampire and begins to suspect Barnabas, but Julia will do anything to keep him from finding out. Victoria begins to fall for Barnabas who becomes haunted by his guilt and of his lost love Josette. Also, David begins having nightmares about Daphne, Carolyn and Victoria turning into vampires and attacking him. Sarah later tells David that a newer evil exists."

"Victoria Winters arrives at Collinwood, a Gothic mansion on a cliff overlooking the ocean near the small Maine seaport town of Collinsport. She is the recently hired governess to troubled 10-year-old David Collins. David's gruff father, Roger, distrusts her, but his mysterious widowed sister Elizabeth is more hospitable. The simple and trouble-making groundskeeper, Willie Loomis, nephew of Collinwood housekeeper Mrs. Johnson, is convinced of an old Collins family legend of buried treasure and breaks into the Collins family crypt, accidentally releasing vampire Barnabas Collins from his tomb. We made it to Season Two with the massive "ThunderCats Ho! The Movie." So big infact that we needed our friend Zack to come back and unwrap the bandages with us! 

⚡"Lion-O is haunted by the recurring nightmares of Thunderians being killed on Thundera while he fled to the safety of Third Earth with Jaga and the other ThunderCats. Jaga later tells Lion-O that 3 more Thundercats have, in fact, survived and are also living on Third Earth. The ThunderCats decide to search for the 3 new Thunderians, but Mumm-Ra has plans as well and takes the new Thunderians as his prisoners to Fire Rock Mountain. Lion-O loses the Sword of Omens in an avalanche while Panthro battles the Fist-Pounder with the ThunderTank as the ThunderCats close in on rescuing the Thunderians from Fire Rock Mountain, but they'll need supernatural help if they are to pass through the Thundranium gasses to reach them."

⚡ "Vultureman invents a Superpower Potion, which gives him incredible magical powers and strength, enabling him to see Tygra when invisible and defetat him. Vultureman then makes a deal with Mumm-Ra that he will share the potion in exchange for Mumm-Ra's secret to everlasting life. Vultureman asserts his authority over the other Mutants and putting Slithe in a trance."

⚡ "The ThunderCats play a joke on the Mutants by creating a forgery of the Sword of Omens for them to steal, only to have it backfire on them, when the Mutants capture Snarf and abandon him in Mumm-Ra's Pyramid. Panthro makes a fake sword of omens, planing on playing a practical joke on the Mutants. But the joke backfires when the Mutants capture Snarf as well. Lion-O must rescue Snarf and defeat the Mutants and Mumm-Ra."
