While he’s known for science fiction stories, this one has tinges of that but is really just poking fun at the English language. I particularly identified with this one as I tend to respond to language in this way sometimes too. It’s not enough to know what the writer was trying to say, for me. If they write something that I can perceive a different way, I will find it, point it out, and usually be told, “Oh you’re being too literal, you know what they meant.” Whatever... that’s how my brain works.
