<itunes:summary>Welcome back to The Queer Stoic Podcast and to Episode 7 and Chapter 2 of The Stoicism Workbook! This week we will be focusing on Control and the lack of it that we actually have in our lives as opposed to how much we think we have. As a fellow control freak, this has been a difficult concept for me to grasp and to learn to let go of the illusion of control that I have over certain events or influence in general over those events. In the end control is just another way to worry, and worry is a slippery slope to fall down. I want you to keep this phrase in mind as you listen, Amor Fati. I will explain this in depth later, the basic translation is Love your fate.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>This week’s episode is about implementing the virtue of Wisdom in Stoicism to everyday life when dealing with ignorant people and their bigotry against the LGBTQ+ community. We in the Queer community encounter bigotry on a daily basis, both politically and socioeconomically. There are laws being passed that wish to erase us or put us in such a state of fear for our safety that some have fled to other, more accepting countries, or are planning and preparing to do so. Honestly I don’t blame them, I won’t say it is better to flee or stay, that’s not my decision to make for other people. To protect your own peace and physical safety, if you must leave I wish you the best of luck. For those of us that cannot leave for whatever reason, coping the best we can may be the only way to get through this, together. That’s what we’re going to get into this week, on with the show!</itunes:summary>

An introduction to Stoicism and how my journey towards gender transition and Stoicism collided, how Stoicism has inspired and guided me in my transition as well as parenting a son as a semi-closeted Transgender Man. Come with me as we explore the ins and outs of Stoic parenting, yes that is a capital 'S', don't worry I will get into that.

Stoicism and queerness go hand in hand in my opinion, the lessons it offers, though derived from a predominantly male society over 2000 years ago, still offers a semblance of peace and openness we really need right now. Especially with the current administration in the United States causing hardships among the demographics that are in need of help now more than ever.

One of the key points of Stoicism is Common Humanity, the idea that all human beings are connected and equal regardless of creed, tribe, or anything else. We all have the capacity of reason and so we should work together, not be at odds.

Classic Book Recommendations:

<a

<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Marcus-Aurelius-Meditations-Adapted-Contemporary/dp/B01N67A2Q0/ref=sr_1_9?crid=2NY6HS7AL37DJ&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.SGZrn9To6eESawL2DcQhCXYvhKZKghd2ljfIEk2jwRO-w-EriTd9V3j_qCv-qQfIse2Ia3SZ4oEo_KRa0YZbXYwNTyzBuDwbTMmUQzzhJsbo_nG9akFLkQ_KUq079GrnnmMpf7fYf9qJXxkd5jODdxkoIX4PT4pkcVF_MJjGX4CHZJItXab0kDdN6UnYbC5jeOxQnk-91yLcqRaYdgLuU4SvVucIyQbnukFAqW_FL6zlVOC9BsrRandz5ZPpQJiW-eA3v90g-UwbkiUU2g5kpvVRorS56kjPfy4G-UDXgPc.RrY5wWXs7VNJX0YFMP_iXJxJYSQIFu5-8S-NfZpfuWY&dib_tag=se&keywords=meditations&qid=1753268795&sprefix=meditatio%2Caps%2C242&sr=8-9"
