Yanti Amos: from lawyer to yoga studio owner

Yanti shares her life journey with us which took her to many different corners of the world!

Born in Australia with Indonesian parents, Yanti grew up looking different from others and - still to this day - had to answer how she could speak such fluent English considering her Indonesian physical traits. Yanti shares with us the origin of her name, and the importance of her Javanese origins in her life.

Yanti has been a successful lawyer for 17 years in multiple countries. However, after "a mid-life crisis" as she calls it, she made a huge change and became a yoga instructor & studio owner in New York City!

Towards the end of the episode, we also talk about how during the pandemic, by simply reaching out to friends around the globe, she ended up putting together a group of more than 100 women to share their stories & support each other about their domestic violence experiences.

Rebecca Alexander: crushing life with Usher Syndrome

Rebecca is an author (Not Fade Away: A Memoir of Senses Lost and Found), psychotherapist, public speaker (including a TedTalk), group fitness instructor, extreme athlete and disability right advocate... yes, all of that!

She also has a genetic disorder called Usher Syndrome type 3, which causes her to go deaf and blind. Rebecca first started losing her sight at age 12, then her hearing a few years later. She now reads brail, is fluent in sign language and protactile sign language.

Rebecca talks to us about her journey discovering Usher Syndrome, how she coped with changes in her body as a teen but also how she is doing lots of fun things to enjoy life now (and as she says, "to feel alive") while she still has her sight and hearing (including hiking Mount Kilimanjaro).

Rebecca shares with us why it is important for her to raise awareness for her community and how important it is to find your community. Plus we talk about inspiration porn and how disabled people are just people doing normal things.

Erin Opfell: my male to female transition story

After going viral on LinkedIn thanks to a post about her transition, Erin comes on the show to tell us about her story.

As she told us, she always wanted to be a girl, she dreamed about it. However, she was born as a boy in a very strict family where this was simply not acceptable, she was not able to explore her gender identity for many years, and had to repress this side of herself until becoming an adult.

Erin talks to us about multiple business trips she took to the Philippines, and how they impacted her in the long journey of becoming who she wanted to be.

It has not been easy for Erin - as it is often the case for transgender people unfortunately - but after years of living in the closet, she is now out & happy to be her true authentic self, and is ready to embark on a new adventure that is her transition.

Catalyst Miami provides a multitude of services to individuals in situations of crises, but also creates programs to empower & generate more sustainable long-term resources for communities that have been left-out for decades.

Adrian comes back on the show today to talk to us about the evolution of his approach to Yoga throughout the years.

Adrian doesn't consider Yoga as a static/non-evolving practice. As human beings evolve, society evolves, and our needs evolve. Indeed it makes sense to adjust the practice of Yoga to suit our current needs - still while respecting the core values & origins of it.

When Adrian started Yoga 20 years ago, it was all about the physicality of it. Learning postures & sequences to get the body moving. However, after deepening his knowledge about Yoga, and also after going through personal difficulties, Adrian started to appreciate more & more what Yoga could do for mental health and overall wellbeing.

Adrian now focuses most of his time to promote this new approach through the Warrior Flow School, where Yoga can serve under-served communities and become accessible to all of us.

Agnes Fischer: a fertility story through IVF & egg freezing

Agnes - the author of Eggs Unscrambled - talks to us about her fertility journey through egg freezing & IVF.

As most woman in a marriage, Agnes tried to get pregnant earlier in her life. However, things didn't turn out as expected and she ended up getting a divorce with no children. She had looked at IVF whilst in that relationship, but once it ended, she decided to take control of her own fertility, and give herself (and her future-self) options.

Whist she was in the midst of it and educating herself about egg freezing, embryo freezing, IVF, etc. she started the blog Frozen Please to document her experience... which eventually turned into a book!

Agnes openly shares with us her experience, especially the part of her life after the book which includes donor sperm, finding love, IVF... and motherhood!

She now has 2 beautiful children and wouldn’t change the way she has gone about things.

It’s such an important topic that not many people talk about but that happens very often. It's crucial that we - as a society - become more educated on fertility, and more especially women, before it’s “too late”.

Mama Joy: a life devoted to giving

Anitrice Jackson, better known as “Mama Joy,” started Nana’s Restart in 2013 as a way to serve her community of Overtown, Miami. Since then, she has been doing this work on her own time and dime… because her passion and purpose is people.

Mama Joy shares with us how her own life struggles motivated her to create this organization. When she was in need, she received help for herself and her children. Years later, she is now doing everything she can to help children and their parents by getting them school supplies, toys for Christmas and more.

Mama Joy's entire family is involved in Nana's Restart, and despite limited resources, the contribution and the impact they are having on people's lives is simply amazing.

Life has not always been easy for Mama Joy. But she never gave up. Her determination and strength helped her navigate tough times, and she is now doing everything she can to help other families in need. A beautiful example of generosity and giving-back.

Jordan Stanley: his experience with first stage psychosis

If the last couple of years taught us something, it's that mental health affects all of us. In this episode, Jordan opens up about the mental health challenges he has been facing recently.

A few years ago, Jordan started to hear voices in his head & was diagnosed with first stage psychosis. This event turned his life upside down as Jordan was not able to work and found himself isolated. It took more than a year to get his condition under control and get back to some sort of normal life.

Jordan has been recently sharing openly about his struggles on LinkedIn, where he also talks about his new entrepreneurial journey & the launch of his 1st company StrikeMoon.

Mental health is still a taboo in our society, but it affects all of us at some point in our lives. When we go through rough times, we often feel alone... which is why sharing stories is important.

Gina Knight: her life with alopecia

Gina Atinuke Knight is a British entrepreneur, model, content creator and alopecia advocate. After years of working in the beauty & hair industry, she discovered she had a form of alopecia, CCCA (Central Centrifugal Cicatricial Alopecia).

But before talking about that in detail, Gina starts by sharing about her Nigerian origins. She explains to us how in the 60s, 70s and 80s, it was not uncommon for Nigerian children to be fostered via newspapers in the UK. Gina therefore grew up with her private foster parents who were white. She shares how this affected the way she was brought up, and especially how it impacted her relationship with her own hair.

Even if she is now confident appearing online with a bold head, things were not that easy when Gina first experienced hair loss. Hair is such an important part of us, especially for women as it is often linked with beauty, feminism, sexiness. We discuss in length the effect of the messages communicated to us by the beauty industry and the impact it can have on women's confidence.

Gina also talks to us about her wig business, which started from a personal need. Finding wigs that matched black textured hair was not easy... so she decided to create her own. And after sharing about it online, she realized many other women could benefit from her creations.

Anthony & Helena are the founders of Eko Brewery, a brewery based in England creating African-inspired craft beers.

Anthony & Helena both share where their respective interests for beers come from, and how a hobby for crafty beers eventually evolved into a passion and slowly became a business.

There are many craft beers out there nowadays, but what differentiates Eko is that each beer get inspiration from the African continent. Anthony & Helena have their roots in Nigeria & Congo. They use techniques & ingredients from their countries and continent to make Eko's beers special and standing out from the others.

Eddie vulnerability shares with us his struggles as a child & teenager, the confusion he felt navigating his own feelings & what he was perceiving from the world about homosexuality. Eddie was rejected by his mother when she discovered he was gay, which led him to homelessness as a teenager.

Through his personal experiences & what he witnessed during years of activism, we discuss at length the personal & societal changes necessary to make an impact for the current & future generations, and create a safer & more loving world.

Early on Eleanor had a strong interest in food & cooking. She got a degree in Nutrition in the US, then moved to the UK to attend a Master’s in Food Science at the University of Leeds. That's when she met Olly, Rosie's brother, who would later become her husband.

Eleanor talks to us openly about the challenges of a career as a chef. Not having a set clear path to reach your goals, dealing with the craziness of the job, experimenting with different concepts to create a successful business, adjusting to health issues to have a sustainable career... it's far from an easy path as you will see!

Matthew Koman: finding balance through sports & helping others

Matt is a professional athlete who plays for the USA Beach Handball Team and is also a holistic coach. Matt's life has always been very "sport-centric", growing up with athlete parents and playing baseball, basketball & (American) football himself.

Matt is a very talented athlete, with innate skills, great DNA and an attraction to competition. However for years, Matt lacked the skills surrounding the sports: rest, nutrition, taking care of his mental & emotional health, etc. From the outside, his twenties looked extremely successful as he was coaching professional athletes and high-performers, and he even opened a middle-school for young athletes! But he was also burning himself out.

Now in his early thirties, Matt has learned how to take care of himself and live a more holistic balanced life. He intentionally shares his knowledge with individuals who are looking to breakthrough and live a more healthy lifestyle, plus he also works with businesses to bring healthier practices to their workplace.

Sam Lister: can you be a successful entrepreneur at 22 years old

Back in 2019, in a self-development program, Jeremie met Sam who was 19 years-old at the time. When talking about what he wanted to achieve in life, he said "I'd like to create my own University"! Not the answer you expect from a 19 year-old 😅

We first talked to Sam on the show in 2020 (Episode 12), and decided to interview him every year to follow his growth & entrepreneurial journey... so he was back on the podcast in 2021 (Episode 73) and in today's show for the 3rd time!

Sam starts with a quick recap of his journey so far, from graduating from High School & not going to College to shifting his business during the pandemic. We talk about his new interest in YouTube, experimenting with content creation, scaling his business, etc.

Sam shares openly & vulnerably about the highs & lows of his life. At 22 years-old he has achieved everything he ever dreamed of. But, as you can imagine, being an entrepreneur also comes with a lot of responsibilities & sources of anxiety.

Emilía is a very talented singer, songwriter, but also yoga teacher, meditation facilitator & much more. As she tells us, the more facets a diamond has, the more value it holds... the same can be said for human beings... being a multifaceted person is not a bad thing!

Danié Gómez-Ortigoza: journey of a braid

Danié is a Mexican artist currently living in Texas who shares with us the reasons she braids other people’s hair and creates art around this simple practice.

It all started as a child when her nanny would braid her hair for special occasions. Since then, she has continued to braid her hair as a form of self care, to get rid of the bad energy and to start the day with an intention. Hair braiding is now part of her identity.

Danié is also the co-founder of The Bazaar For Good, a non-profit organization where women come together once a year to help create better conditions for children around the world. She talks to us about this adventure and how this year, they hopes to raise $500K!

We loved finding out how something as simple as braiding hair can connect people together, release trauma and heal inner wounds. What an incredible conversation and we hope you enjoy it!

On May 1st 2021, we left Miami, our jobs, our friends and most of our belongings to start a new chapter of our lives: becoming digital nomads to travel the world while working on our online projects/businesses. We worked hard to save enough money to be able to take this break. Our goal was (still is) to create enough financial freedom to live the lifestyle that we want.

However things didn't go as we planned. In this episode we reflect on the past 12 months, the challenges we have been facing, the ups & downs, our struggles, etc.

Alejandra Hernandez: the reality of entrepreneurship

Alejandra is back on the show to share about the start of her entrepreneurial journey. Last time we chatted, she had a full time job working as a career advisor. A few months later, after going for a Ayahuasca retreat at the end of 2020, she decided to take a leap of faith and quit. Despite her fears and worries, it was time.

She launched empowHER change, a career and leadership coaching business for women struggling to be confident leaders in the workplace.

Alejandra takes us through the difficult start of her journey as she lost her dad a few weeks in. After weeks of struggles and grieving, she decided to hire a coach to help organize and kick start her business. She shared her point of view on the importance of investing in yourself as a coach to be in integrity with yourself and the services you provide to your clients.

We talk about how to overcome the challenges she faced as an entrepreneur: feeling lonely, energy & time management, dealing with anxiety, money scarcity, etc.

Alejandra also shares with us her passion for Human Design, what it is, and how she uses this tool in her business to coach and help her clients.

Alana Ashley: how challenges can lead to success

We could resume this episode by saying "whatever life throws at you, don't give up, keep going".

Alana starts by sharing about her childhood, growing up in an unstable environment with her parents separated and moving places quite a lot... even living in a shelter at some point. Alana also shares about how her mom being queer impacted her, and how it facilitated things when she realized she was queer herself.

Alana looked back and reflected on how the challenges of her childhood & teens years shaped her personality and impacted her life on various aspects (being scared of stability, money, etc).

Eventually, Alana started to turn her life around after a mentor introduced her to hairstyling then to a self-development training. It helped her to see her true value and to work on her self-limiting beliefs. After that she started to invest in herself and focus her energy on doing something fulfilling and meaningful for herself.

She now works for herself as a hairstylist between Atlanta & Miami. But she's not your average hairstylist. Through hairstyling she creates a loving space for her clients to feel safe, empowered & understood. This is more than pretty haircuts, Alana works with her clients to make them feel their absolute best.

Rodrigo Souza: adapting to life in a wheelchair

Rodrigo was born and raised in Brazil by a free-spirited mother. From a young age, core values such as gratitude and kindness were taught to him along with a sense of curiosity and adventure due to many house moves.

At 22 years-old, Rodrigo decided he wanted to learn English and see more of the world. So he moved to London! He spent 9 years there, working for a few months, saving money, then spending it all on traveling around the world for a few months... then repeat!

Unfortunately during one of his adventures exploring Brazil, Rodrigo fell and damaged his spine. This accident left him paralyzed and he is now using a wheelchair. After a few hard years, he joined an organization in Sweden which helps people adapt to their own disabilities. During one of the workshops, he demonstrated some yoga movements to other people in wheelchairs to alleviate some of their pain. Little did he know, this moment would change the course of his life and would lead him to become a yoga teacher.

He now helps other disabled people to reconnect with their body and heal their traumas through yoga.

A story of gratitude, perseverance, but also an insightful conversation to learn and understand more about the way society treats and sees people with disabilities and what we can do to change things.

Yariela Sequeira: normalizing therapy & mental health

Yari is a licensed mental health counselor, or as she like to call herself an "outside the box licensed mental health counselor" to be precise.

Yari wants to democratize a different approach to "traditional" therapy, a more human & holistic approach centered around connection, communication and love.

She takes us on a journey from Nicaragua to the United States through Honduras. She openly shares with us what motivated her to get into psychology, and we dive into her career working with many different populations such as families, people in the penitentiary system (sex offenders, murderers, drug addicts, etc) and much more.

Kirill Ignatieff: bridging the gap between Technology & Spirituality

Kirill is a super interesting guy with an amazing mindset and high-level of awareness, which was clear throughout the whole conversation.

Kirill was born in Belarus and grew up with good education but experienced the effects of the Cold War including rationed foods. It was during his childhood that Kirill realized he excelled at sciences and developed his interest for technology & creativity.

He now lives in Miami, but his American journey started in North Carolina. He then moved to San Fransisco to attend UC Berkeley to study business. Kirill worked in the corporate world but eventually decided to quit his high-paid job to follow his dreams and start his own business.

Kirill now spends his time working on his businesses 22portraits and Capsul, and his project 22stories.

Anwar Sadat: Kenyan photographer documenting untold stories

Anwar is a documentary photographer based in Nairobi, Kenya. His work focuses on sharing unnoticed and overlook stories in his community. Most of his work is around the neighborhood of Kibera, which is the largest urban slum in Africa.

Through his photographs, he wants to show another side of the people living there, and a different side of his country. Plus show a different side to the African continent which is too often confined to negative stories around poverty, famine, wars, corruption and diseases.

In this episode Anwar shares with us where his passion for photography comes from, the hard work needed to get a camera and start working as a professional photographer. Despite a tumultuous childhood in an unstable home, Anwar stayed motivated and focused on his goals.

As a child, Olly's parents always took the family away on vacations. Olly kept a strong interest in traveling and went on multiple travels around the world, exploring many countries and creating unforgettable memories. He also shares with us how he dealt with a very tragic accident that happened during one of his travels.

Olly graduated in 2014 with a Masters in Transport Economics and has been enjoying a successful career as a consultant since then. However, Olly always had a strong interest in business and entrepreneurship. For the past few years he had many (many) ideas, explored some more than others and is now working with his wife on Educated Cooking.

Lorraine Kyriazis: taking risks to live a fulfilled life

Lorraine's life has been a rollercoaster! She grew up in a working class family in Manchester, England. When she was 19 years old, she met the man who would become her first husband and a few years later moved to Malaysia with him. She created 2 business there, had 2 beautiful children, including our dear friend Jojo (https://justinterestingpeople.com/043), but realized after a while that she wasn't happy and fulfilled in her marriage and her life.

In the early 2000s, when internet came around, she "met" a man from New York who became a friend... and after a tragic family event, she realized life was too short to waste time and be unhappy and she decided to book a one-way ticket to NYC to meet Jimmy in-person. Her plan was to visit New York, see what would happen with this potential relationship, then bring her children over once she was settled and safe.

However things didn't turn out completely as planned... it took 1 year for Michael & Joanne to see their mother again in NYC! Jojo, still being young at this time, stayed in America with her mother while Michael who was older went back to Malaysia.

Lorraine and her husband started a successful business in NYC, and are now living happily in Miami. She is a very up beat person with a go getter personality who says yes to life and love. She is also a very good business woman who has started many profitable and incredible businesses.

Lorraine is such an inspiration and a reminder that life is for living. Make sure you do things that make you happy and "go for it".

Ricardo Lima: Worldpackers, volunteer around the world

Imagine traveling around the world and living with locals for free in exchange of a few hours of your time. Sounds pretty amazing, right? Well, this is possible thanks to Worldpackers.com.

Ricardo is from Brazil around 2010 was having a very successful career in finance. Successful from a money standpoint, however he was totally unhappy and unfulfilled. That's when he decided to leave everything behind and use his savings to travel the world. Little did he know at the time that he would be traveling for 3 years through Africa, Europe, Asia and North America!

It was during this long trip that he discovered you can volunteer in exchange for accommodation and sometimes even food. In 2013, Ricardo stayed in a hostel in San Diego - a hostel run by Eric and lots of volunteers. That's when Ricardo & Eric decided to create Worldpackers, a platform to connect hostels and travelers who want to volunteer to reduce their expenses and live different experiences. The first version launched in early 2014.

Fast forward to 2022, they have around 50 (fully remote) employees, 7000+ hosts and more than 100,000 travelers volunteered through the platform. Ricardo's purpose is to provide an alternative to traditional travel, to offer unique experiences to travelers and create a community around the world by volunteering. Through multiple online programs, they gave back $1M to the community in 2021 alone!

As you can imagine, the pandemic impacted Worldpackers, but they managed to get through it and the platform and team are now stronger than ever. Despite being a niche market in this huge industry, Ricardo is determined to have an impact.

Bresly Frech Schipper: German Peruvian culture immersion

We had the pleasure of spending 2.5 weeks with Bresly near Oxapampa, in the middle of Peru, through the website Worldpackers (a platform listing volunteering opportunities across the world).

Bresly grew up in Oxapampa, a city founded by Austrian and German settlers in the 19th century. It is surrounded by mountains and forest, and offers an incredible diversity of birds, insects, other wildlife and flora. From a young age Bresly created a special bond and connection with nature which led her to move to Germany to study Forest Sciences & Forest Ecology in University.

After 10 years in Germany, Bresly moved back to Peru to reconnect with her roots and her family. She uses her passion & knowledge for the forest & nature to educate others (tourists like us and children through school programs) about the importance of preserving the ecosystem in the province and ultimately our planet.

We had a fantastic time with Bresly and she is always taking on more volunteers, so if you ever want to spend time immersed in the Peruvian Cloud Forests learning about another culture, tasting new foods, and learning how to live a more simple life, we have left the link below.

Time to reflect (again)!

At the end of 2020, we thought 2021 would be a smoother, easier year... well, life had other plans for us. Life, the Universe, or whoever is in charge up there decided otherwise.

2021 was full of ups & downs for us... doing a Yoga Teacher Training, leaving Miami and our friends, Jeremie leaving his job, spending 6 months with family in Europe, starting a long travel in South America... a lot happened and a lot of lessons were learned!

Walter Espíndola: life in Peru & becoming an ornithologist

We met Walter during our trip in Peru when we stayed with Bresly, close to Oxapampa, for a volunteering experience with Worldpackers. Walter was born in 1988 in Lima, the capital of Peru, where he also grew up. He talks to us about his childhood and education, but also about the political and economic situation in Peru at that time and the impact it had on the way he was raised. Walter is extremely knowledgeable about his country and the Peruvian culture and he offers many interesting insights about life in Peru. Drawn towards science and biology, Walter went to the San Marco University in Lima to become a biologist researcher. Thanks to a professor who became a mentor, he specialized in studying plants, then birds, to become an ornithologist. His studies gave him the opportunity to travel around South America to work on multiple projects, then move to the USA for a few years to go to The Pennsylvania State University. He is now finishing his research publication along side free lance work and hopes to continue his research journey around the world. Lauren Wynn: IVF pregnancy after 8 miscarriages

In 2016, Lauren and her husband EJ were pregnant for the first time. As most young couples who are trying to have their first child, they were full of joy and extremely excited. A few weeks later, Lauren went for an ultrasound and that's when she heard for the first time the words "there's no heartbeat". This was the beginning of a long journey for the couple. As of now - in December 2021 - they experienced a total of 8 miscarriages, with many hospitalizations and surgeries. Lauren talks openly and vulnerably about this journey, the pain, the doubts, the challenges, the obstacles they both had to face to bring a new life to this world. This year Lauren and her husband decided to try IVF, and we are happy to let you know that she is currently pregnant and due in June 2022. If you are reading this, send all the love that you can to Lauren and the little baby she is carrying. The topic of infant loss is important for us. We have been affected by it and shared our experience already in October 2020. It happens to millions of people around the world, every single day. But it still remains a taboo. Tara Rahmani: navigating life & demystifying the word FAT

Tara is a young woman trying to figure out life. We start this episode talking about the important life decisions we are faced with in our late teen years and early twenties, that will have a huge impact later on in life. Tara went to college and graduated from engineering school with more than $100,000 in student loan. The problem is, she didn't really enjoy her major and probably won't make a career of it. However during her entire education, Tara spent a lot of her time successfully helping younger students by getting involved into numerous programs. These opportunities got her interested in design thinking, entrepreneurship and made her question what she really wanted to do in her life. The conversation then takes a turn around Tara's body image, fat shaming and fat positivity. She shares her interesting and eye-opening opinion on the use of the word "fat". To finish, we conclude the episode with the use of social media, and how Tara consistently makes the effort to use her Instagram account to raise awareness of many social issues happening in our world. It is easy to share something when it's trendy to look good in the eyes of our followers, but Tara doesn't follow the trend, she shares constantly in an effort to support and help those causes. Yuliana Kim-Grant: immigration, racism & depression

Yuliana was born in South Korea but grew up in the United States as her parents decided to move there when she was a child in the hopes to live a better life. She takes us on a journey from South Korea to LA through Philadelphia and more. Passionate about books, she built her career around writing as a screenwriter and eventually decided to become an author. To this date, Yuliana published 2 books including A Shred of Hope. In her twenties, Yuliana met the man who would later become her husband and father of her son. A black man. She openly shares with us the challenges she faced - and still faces - regarding her parents accepting her to marry a black man and raising a black son. We also talk deeply about depression. Yuliana suffered - and still does - from depression for many years. However for a very long time she didn't want to take antidepressants because she was worried this would affect her creativity and writing. After a breakdown that led to her hospitalization she had to agree to go under medication. Little did she know that it would change her life and would allow her to live a more balanced life. Yoga became a huge part of her journey to get better. It was so impactful that she decided to become a yoga teacher and a yoga therapist to help others. She explains the differences between the two and the value of yoga therapy. In 2021, Yuliana launched the Phoenix Tales Podcast where she shares women's stories of their trials and tribulations throughout life and how they overcome obstacles that many of us face. Lisa Serrano: questioning life choices

Lisa is a 19 year old French woman (although you wouldn't know it from her beautiful English accent) with big dreams. Despite her young age, she is extremely mature and questions more about life than many "grown-ups". She is studying speech therapy at university - and is a very good student - but she wonders if that's really what she wants for her life. Her true passion is music and singing. Lisa started learning piano at 8 years old and since then her love of playing music and singing only grew more and more. As Rosie says, she has a voice of an angel. She shares with us what music means to her, but also her creative process as she also writes her own songs (and she is working on a musical!!). It is pretty unusual to meet a 19 year old with this level of awareness and maturity. She doesn't want life to just happen to her, to get trapped into what society wants her to conform into. She wants to be happy and fulfilled. It is not easy to follow your dreams, especially without the right environment around. But Lisa shows that when you really want something, it is up to you to make your own choices to achieve your goals. That came with its challenges as Daryl had to learn a new language, discover and adapt to a new culture... but it was also a time where Daryl was discovering more about himself and particularly his sexuality. He shares the difficulty of coming out to his family, something not straightforward especially in a Latin household. Years later, Daryl is a confident beautiful man who models and runs a marketing agency - Oszo Lab - which allows him to express his creativity in the fashion, beauty, wellness and lifestyle industry. Millicent Huser: helping others live their dream lives

Milli was one of Jeremie's coaches when he did Gratitude Training, a self-development program. Milli had a chaotic childhood as her mom suffered from mental illnesses and her brother was a sociopath. She had to adjust and adapt in order to survive in her household. This led to some complicated years from her teen years to mid-twenties where she used alcohol and drugs to function. However, what started as a way to numb the pain became an addiction. When Milli was eventually able to get sober, she went back to school and decided to dedicate her life to helping others. She has been working with people struggling with addiction, first responders and others, and now focuses on people like you and me to achieve their dream life. This was such a deep conversation with lots of raw and honest moments. Milli doesn't hide her truth and in fact, uses it to empower herself and others. John Marshall: Emmy Awards winner now helps orphans in India

John is a 9 time Emmy Awards winner who uses his creativity and storytelling skills to help orphan girls in India get an education. Here's how it all happened. John starts off by telling us about his time as a screenwriter in Hollywood. He explains to us about the behind the scenes of the job, writing scripts that never get filmed and winning 9 Emmy Awards. He then talks to us about the year his family spent in a small fishing village in Portugal. Shortly afterwards, John and his wife at the time were having marital problems so decided to go travelling with their teenage kids around the world whilst volunteering. This lead them to Costa Rica, Australia, New Zealand and India among other places. They spent 6 months on the road, visited 8 countries... with a budget of $8 per person per day. He actually wrote a book - "Wide-Open World" - about this experience and did a TedX Talk too. We then talk about the benefits of travel and how in 2014 he ended up spending 6 months in an Indian orphanage. This experience changed his life and he decided he would now commit his time raising money for orphans. After spending many years with the girls in India, fundraising lots of money and helping as much as possible, John decided in 2019 to start his own organisation called Teach Her which helps girls in India go to college! He also encourages young girls in the USA to fundraise for an Indian girl's education which has been a great success. It's an incredible story of following your passion, taking risks, travelling the world and helping people along the way. It's interesting to see that all of his work experience script writing, story telling & film production then helped raise thousands of dollars for charities to help girls in need. It's such an inspiring conversation that proves if you want to do things in life, it is up to you to do it. Opportunities are out there, it's a matter of attitude and figuring what you want. Keith Johns: becoming a real musician

Keith got introduced to music at a young age when his dad used to play the guitar for him. He later learned how to play the trumpet and was in a band at school. He experimented with different styles of music until he decided he wanted to sing and play a musical instrument at the same time, so he learned how to play the guitar. He then left college and focused on his career as a physicist and only played music as a hobby. An opportunity to record some music with a new studio that had just opened up was when his life switched gears. This opportunity along with being asked to play at Ritz Carlton started to bring in enough income to quit his job and focus on his music. In this conversation we talk about the process of writing songs, his upcoming album "Terra Nova", self doubt & comparison, mental health, his favourite songs and Keith shares with us lots of inspirational quotes that keep him going on tough days. This conversation was about much more than his career and singing.. we talked about lots of different topics and really got to know the guy behind the guitar. Hugo Healy: aspiring actor turns award winning drone videographer

Hugo is from Brighton in the south of England and is a professional drone operator, videographer and photographer. One of his biggest achievements was being a videographer for an MTV Video Music Awards and Grammy Awards winner music video! Hugo originally wanted to go to acting school, but was too young to apply at the time so instead went to film school where he got hooked as it was a great way to express his creativity. He decided to get his first drone during school to be able to capture different angles and points of view... and was rapidly known as "the drone guy"! Hugo has always been very fond of traveling, saving every penny to explore new places and capture the beauty of our planet with both his drone & camera. After years of hard work, he now shoots commercials, movies and TV series and also travels to photograph people around the world. Nelson Rodriguez: poor Cuban upbringing turns into rich ambition

Nelson starts off by talking to us about his relationship with money. We talk about his experience growing up without a lot of money and how that upbringing made him want to have more money as an adult. He tells us that money is not a bad thing, but instead, it can be a magnifying glass which can bring you freedom and happiness if used correctly. We then talked about his early adulthood, studying and working lots of hours but still being broke, until he got his big break with a friend's business. It was a really interesting conversation about money mindset and how his beliefs around money have changed over the years. Nelson then talked to us about Cuba. Growing up in Miami but coming from a Cuban family, he told us horror stories of his home country... how family & friends escaped on boats, what people used to eat in desperate times and how Cuba has been affected by the pandemic. Cuba is a beautiful country but there are lots of ways in which Cuban people's lives could be greatly improved. Lastly, we talked about Nelson's passion for creating music. He talks to us about how it's a form of therapy for him and a way for him to express himself. Florian Valette: network engineer living in Australia

Florian is a dear friend of Jeremie who currently lives in Melbourne, Australia. In 2016, he needed a new challenge in his life, and a friend of his who recently moved to Australia told him about the opportunities in this country. It didn't take long to Florian to decide that he was ready for a new chapter, so he quit his job and jumped on a plane to the other side of the world. He is living a happy life over there as a permanent resident. Before that, Florian grew up in France and did a lot of acrobatic gymnastics when he was young, specializing in tumbling. He shares with us how he picked this sport - which is not really common for boys in France - and how after years of training he eventually ended up training with the French national team, and competed in French and European championships! When he got older, Florian decided to prioritize his studies and pursue a passion for IT. It all started when his parents got a computer, he taught himself how to build websites and got hooked. Florian decided to focus on this and eventually graduated with a Master's degree in network engineering. During his studies, he had the opportunity to study abroad so grabbed the chance to go to London and then to San Francisco. He eventually got a job for OVH, a French cloud computing company which offers VPS, dedicated servers and other web services. Techn0yogi: bodybuilder, kandi kid & DJ

Rob - aka Techn0yogi - starts off by talking to us about the time in his life when he was competing in body building. He talks about all the sacrifices and discipline required for it including the food he ate and how far he got with the competitions. After 12 years of being a certified PT and competing in body building, he started to question things about the way he was working out, training others and the way he was eating etc. He tried fasting, then tried to reduce the amount of meat he ate and eventually became vegan when he took his yoga teacher training. Around this time, he also changed the way he was working out and eventually started to live a more meaningful and intentional life with the yoga community. We then talk about his love for Techno music. He started going to Ultra Miami at a pretty young age and was considered a raver, even taking part in dance battles! Techn0yogi shares that his sister's boyfriend is the one who taught him the basics of DJing with proper turntables and vinyls when he was a teenager. He stopped playing for around 10 years but is now a resident DJ in Miami. And lastly, we talked about Kandi jewelry which is now a huge part of his personal style. Techn0yogi met a girl one day who gifted him a Kandi bracelet. They then went to a music festival in Canada together which was a Kandi festival so he started doing a few small pieces to take with him. After the festival, he totally fell in love with gifting pieces of artwork and started creating bigger pieces. He now gifts his artwork to DJs such as Paul Oakenfold, Diplo, Carnage and Eric Morillo. Gabrielle Demmer: the importance of being your true self

Demmer was born and raised in Miami, Florida and tells us about how belly dancing and Flamenco dancing from the age of 3 gave her self confidence to perform on stage but also how to be comfortable within her own body. She talks to us about self expression and why dancing (in any form) is so important to her. We discuss her rebellious teenage years, getting her first tattoo in a garage at the age of 16 and the meaning behind it. Demmer also shares about her religious upbringing and the change her mom made to switch to Buddhism and how this decision affected her life. Demmer studied finance in college but after her partner went through a life altering event, she decided to do something that brought her true joy, so got into the hospitality industry. She loves festivals for the music, the freedom of self expression and also for the magical moments that happen during these events. She tells us a really cool story about a festival experience and why she does what she does. This is a really lovely conversation where we cover a wide range of subjects as we get to know Demmer on a deeper level. Shane is an anxiety, depression & trauma coach, founder of MBS Repair (Mind, Body, Soul Repair). To quote him, his goal is "to connect the bridge between human & emotions, to turn pain into power". After years of suffering and pain, he got really sick with his body sort of shutting down. Shane completely lost interest in life... but eventually found the strength to get up and take the reins of his own destiny. Marina Banfi: traveling and connecting with the ocean

In today's episode we welcome our friend Marina. Marina grew up in Argentina (with 4 sisters including a twin sister), and was very fortunate to travel a lot during her youth with her family. This gave her a taste for traveling which became a huge part of her life. Marina decided to work in the hotel and tourism business, which gave her the opportunity to combine her professional life and her passion for travel as she was able to work and live in multiples countries such as France and Australia. Throughout her life, Marina has built a special connection to the ocean and marine life such as dolphins and sharks. Her love for the ocean kept growing over the years to the point where she decided that she wanted it to be a more important part of her life. Luke Manton: learning to live with Tourettes Syndrome

Luke was diagnosed with Tourettes Syndrome 3 years ago at the age of 26. In this episode he talks to us about his personal experience with Tourettes Syndrome including his tics, his struggles and how his life was flipped upside down. He also explained to us why everyday tasks are harder for him due to his disability including food shopping, eating, sleeping and more. Luke shares about his difficulties in finding work and why he created his own company. Plus lots more information that we didn't know before.. like did you know that only around 15% of people with Tourettes Syndrome swear? Caiti Waks: Debris Free Oceans

Caiti is the co-founder of Debris Free Oceans, a non-profit organization based in Miami fighting plastic pollution. Caiti always had a special attachement to the ocean and environment. But in middle school she read a book that changed her life forever (listen to the episode to find out which book it is 😉). In high-school, she created an environmental club and worked with the students, teachers and her school to stop using plastic and styrofoam on the campus. She launched Debris Free Oceans during law school with her best friend Saira Fida and now husband Jeremy Waks. Plastic pollution is a global issue. It will take all of us to solve this problem. Caiti explains what we can all do as individuals, business owners and communities to take action. Reducing the amount of single-use plastic, recycling (very complex subject that Caiti explains very well in this episode - for example, did you know that only 9% of the plastic is recycled in the US?), zero-waste lifestyle, education... we cover a lot of different topics, with easy action to put in place so together we can all be a part of the solution to fight marine debris and plastic pollution. Danny Rodriguez: BLUE Missions

In 2007, when Danny was a junior in high-school, he went to Dominican Republic to work for an organization to bring clean water to a remote community on the island. This project totally changed his life, and 3 years later in 2010, he co-founded BLUE Missions with his sister. The BLUE in BLUE Missions stand for "Building Love and Uniting Everyone". They work with multiple communities in Dominican Republic to bring them clean water and proper sanitation, because sadly these basic needs are still not available to millions of people in the world. Danny shares with us how and why he created the non-profit, how they operate, how we can support them and why it is so important. We met Angelique during our Yoga Teacher Training in early 2021. During this training, they educated us about Autism. The conversations that we had were so interesting that we had to bring them on the show! They describe the autistic characteristics they experience, the ways they channel their energy and calm them self down... but also what can we all do, individually and as a society, to help autistic people feel supported, loved and respected. Fabio Galarce: the secret life of a DJ

Fabio is one half of the DJ sensation Dude Skywalker. He was born & raised in Miami and went to Florida State University to study business but chose this school in particular for the party scene. Whilst there, he really got into music and started to learn how to DJ himself. After graduating he moved to NYC and created his digital marketing agency with a few friends. These business skills were shown to be useful later in life for his DJ career. One thing lead to another and he is now organizing his own events, co-creating & DJing DAYBREAKER events in Miami, has regular sets around Miami and even has his own record label! Vanessa Arias: photographer's journey from Venezuela to Hawaii

Vanessa tells us about growing up in Venezuela and her childhood dreams of becoming a diplomat. She shares with us how much of a difficult decision it was to leave her family behind but after getting a green card through the Diversity Visa program and moving to the Jersey in the US. 6 months later, Vanessa found a job in Miami and moved to a new city by herself. This turned out to be a very important decision for her, as when she was there, she studied photography at Roberto Mata School of Photography. She became friendly with the owner which then led her to finding a job in Hawaii as a professional photographer in a resort. Vanessa spends a lot of her time in Hawaii surrounded by nature and has since discovered a new passion - nude photography. Julian Castro: quitting the "American Dream" to pursue creativity

Julian grew up with a very creative childhood, always playing and creating. But his Portuguese parents were immigrants from Mozambique, and like most immigrant parents, raised him to work hard, go to college and "succeed". They wanted him to live the "American Dream" that so many people dream about. It was only after leaving his well paid job in the oil industry, going traveling, meditating and other factors that Julian started to change his path in life and realize that he wasn't happy. He went back to Miami after some time away and created a start up, moved into full time photography & marketing, and realized that being creative is what he enjoys the most. He also realized that the "starving artist" story that we all heard isn't necessarily true. All this to say, that in 2019, Julian picked up a paintbrush and painted for the first time since his childhood. He sold his first painting and then when the world went into lockdown, spent more time working on his passion and now has his own painting studio in Miami. He is also designing jewelry & clothing and has very big dreams! He is now combining all of his skills to grow a United Nations award winning startup called I LikeLocal, a marketplace providing experiences to travelers with locals. Jivana Heyman: Accessible Yoga

Jivana is the founder and director of the non-profit Accessible Yoga, dedicated to increasing access to yoga teachings. Jivana's yoga practice started in the 90s in San Francisco. He got involved in the AIDS movement when many of his friends in the gay community were dying from this terrible disease. Jivana decided then to use yoga as a tool to channel the anger & frustration accumulated over the years... and also to share his knowledge to support & heal others in his community. That was the beginning of Accessible Yoga. Since then, Jivana has spent most of his life working towards making the practice accessible by educating other yoga teachers. He leads many trainings, has published a book (with another one on the way) and hosts a podcast on the subject too. He is working to make yoga truly accessible to everyone, in every body, at any age and in any state of health. She was a guest speaker during our 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training and we loved her talk so much, we decided to interview her for you. She shares with us about how her mother introduced her to yoga from an early age, how she began teaching yoga and her journey into becoming an activist in the yoga community. Dianne started teaching as she felt excluded and alienated in typical yoga classes, so decided to do something about it, and start a movement to teach people in all bodies how to practice yoga. Santiago Borja: The Storm Pilot

Santiago is a pilot from Ecuador for an airline company. Over the years, he developed a passion for photography. At some point, Santiago decided to try to take some photographs of the sky, and especially storms while he was flying (not when he is in a driver seat obviously). He started to share his photographs online and ended up getting noticed & winning photography awards! He now has more than 100K followers on Instagram and published a book with his best photographs. Demas Rusli: visual creator mixing his love for architecture & photography

Demas is a well-known photographer & designer who was born in Indonesia but moved to Sydney, Australia as a young boy and still lives there to this day! Although he lives in one of the world's most iconic cities, he travels all over the world capturing incredible landscapes & interesting architecture. He is renowned for his editing techniques & skills in Photoshop, which he uses to create unique artwork. One of the first brand deals he got was photographing some trainers for Adidas and he now works with brands like Adobe & Samsung on a regular basis! She trained as a swimmer from a very young age, and has always been very active. However, that was not her initial career choice as she studied international business & worked for some high-end fashion brands for years before yoga became her life! After moving to Italy, her interest for fitness & yoga evolved. She decided to go to India to take her first 200 hour yoga teacher training. A few years later Jennifer also completed her 300 hour yoga teacher training in London. After being a successful yoga teacher in Italy, she moved back to Miami and is now taking her yoga teaching career to the next level! Jennifer also shares with us her love for traveling, which started early on in life as her parents work for an airline company. Her studies & jobs also took her to multiple countries across the globe but she still has a long list of places she would love to explore. Pedro Pena: my stuttering life

He says it himself, Pedro navigates life with 80% fluency. He shares his life story with us as someone with a stutter. This was actually the first time we talked to someone with a stutter, and we learned so much from him! For 40 years, Pedro struggled. Growing up with a stutter was not easy. He didn't have any friends at school, he was bullied, laughed at, and considered stupid by everyone, including his teachers. It was tough, and it got to the point where he considered taking his own life. Thankfully it didn't happen, but it didn't mean things became better straightaway. When he turned 40, Pedro was tired of living this life. He decided he had enough & he was going to make changes. He did some self-development work, shifted his mindset, and decided that his stutter would be his superpower rather than a burden. We talk about her coming out as gay to her 2 children, road tripping around the States with them for 3 months, and now being a video producer & working with some celebrities. In 2019, Ryan achieved his lifelong dream and opened his first brick & mortar card store- CardCollector2 sports cards, in Columbus, Ohio. He is now co-hosting CardTalk, a podcast about the card hobby, and he is about to open a brand new store. Marion Chaygneaud-Dupuy: cleaning Mount Everest

Marion was born in France, but in a sense, her heart & soul belongs to Tibet. At 16 years old she went to India. This trip totally changed her life & she decided to go back a couple of years later to join a Buddhist monastery where she spent 4 years studying meditation. After this life-changing experience, she became a guide in the Himalayas and even became the first European woman to successfully climb Mount Everest 3 times! There she decided to make an impact and she started the Clean Everest project in order to clean the mountain. Tons of rubbish have been removed from the mountain thanks to this initiative that she now tries to duplicate on other mountains. This year she released a book in French called "Respire, tu es vivante" (literally "Breath, you are alive") where she shares in detail her journey. The book will be translated into English in 2021. Marion's connection to nature and her willingness to help others in astonishing and incredibly inspiring! Diane Snarr: overcoming child abuse, suicide & infant loss

Diane's life has been a rollercoaster! She was sexually assaulted as a child from diapers to 10 years old. Then her father died and her life spiraled out of control. She began self-harming and ended up pregnant at 13 who she gave up for adoption. She then found her husband and decided to start a family. They experienced 2 miscarriages and a full-term stillborn, before eventually birthing 4 healthy children. Diane has experienced more pain & trauma than most people in their lives. They help North Koreans who escape the country (which is illegal) to learn English and other skills so they can start a new life. Prior to going to South Korea, Casey graduated from Harvard, went traveling around Asia, then came back to Washington DC where he got involved in Education Freedom. Thanks to his work (and many others obviously), lots of children in low-income families - mainly black children - got access to a good education. Nikki Bigger: the adventures of van life

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, so we decided to record a 4 part series to share our own personal story. Since 2016, we (Rosie & Jeremie) have had 4 pregnancies, all of which ended with a loss. All 4 of them were very different in many ways but ultimately had the same result. The 4th & final part of this special series. Moving to Miami has been really good for us, and after a few months, we emotionally recovered. Life was good, and after a while, we felt we were both ready to try again. However, things didn't go as planned. Iking Davis: cut off from the outside world for 19 years

A very special episode today. No guest. This time it's only Rosie & Jeremie having an open, honest and unedited conversation about racism and white privilege.

On May 25th, 2020, a black man named George Floyd was murdered by the police in Minneapolis, Minnesota (United States). Following this tragic and awful event, a series of protests started in the US and all over the world to fight racism and police brutality. Things have to change.

We have spent a lot of time listening, learning, unlearning, reading, watching videos & documentaries to try to understand the problem. As white people, we have never experienced what black people have been through & are going through in their lives. We have been trying to educate ourselves on the Black Lives Matter movement and decided to have an open conversation about it in order to encourage communication. To make a real change, we all have to get involved, and it starts with acknowledging what's going on, talking about it, then taking action.

In this episode, we talk to Dennis who has led a very interesting life. He spent 25 years in the hustle and bustle of New York City in the marketing industry. He then decided to give up everything and spend 2 years as a monk in a monastery in Canada, and now lives the good life in Miami.

He shares his stories from this extraordinary life including the ups and downs. He tells us about daily life in the monastery, how his childhood dream of becoming an author became true, and how he got into music production and sound bath meditations.

Adrian is the founder of Warrior Flow and The Warrior Flow Foundation. During this episode, he talks to us about moving to Miami from Argentina, then going back and forth between Miami and New York as a yoga teacher. He also shares how the death of his mother pushed him to help more vulnerable people in the community. He is passionate about helping people and inspiring hope.

Through his foundation, Adrian works with the homeless, mental health institutes, shelters, hospitals, and first-responders to bring them support and to better their quality of life. Mauricio aka The Millennial Yogi has a fascinating story. A few years ago he was diagnosed with two back hernias and was told he couldn't run or exercise anymore. He turned to yoga to build up his body and strengthen his muscles. Then he had a motorbike accident and had to spend a few months in bed. But Mauricio found the strength to recover both times, and he is now a talented yogi spreading his knowledge and good energy!
