Hello nomads and let's talk about some obscure characters from the world of Star Wars. We're going deep, but we found some funny, some tragic tales to characters who either say one word in an entire film, or literally have just two seconds of screen time.

We sourced a ton of information from our friends over at Wookiepedia.org.

"Wookieepedia" is a fan-created online encyclopedia focused on the Star Wars franchise. It is a comprehensive resource that provides information on various aspects of the Star Wars universe, including characters, planets, species, technology, events, and much more. The name "Wookieepedia" is a play on the word "Wookiee," referring to the iconic species from Star Wars, and "Wikipedia," the well-known online encyclopedia.

They operates similarly to Wikipedia in that it is a collaborative project where users can contribute and edit articles. It was established in 2005 and has since grown to become one of the largest and most popular sources of Star Wars information on the internet. The site is maintained by a dedicated community of volunteers who work to ensure the accuracy and completeness of its content.

Total Recall (1990)

Give these people airrrrrr! Total Recall, is a sci-fi classic. It's got Arnold Schwarzenegger at his prime of being an action hero. But let's not forget this movie was based on a Philip K. Dick short story, which is why it leaves viewers wondering, what the hell was real?

It's got kamakzi robot-driving cars. Mutants, like the woman with three boobs. It has Pretty solid CG effects for it's time. And its packed with one-liners by Arnie.

Great casting with a young Sharon Stone, the over-the-top villain Michael Ironside, and if you look closely, Hank from Breaking Bad!

Not all 90's sci-fi tests the test of time, but we'd argue that this is one worth revisiting if you enjoy fun action.

Escape From New York

Let's sneak into Escape from New York, John Carpenter’s cult classic that blends dystopian sci-fi with gritty action. Set in a future where Manhattan has become a maximum-security prison, the film delivers an unforgettable premise, a killer atmosphere, and one of cinema’s coolest anti-heroes in Snake Plissken.

That said… this one didn’t quite hit the same highs as Carpenter’s other work from the era. While the concept is undeniably strong and there’s a certain cheesy charm that makes it fun to watch, the execution feels uneven. The performances often come across as flat, with characters that never fully come to life. The villain lacks real presence, and the President—despite being central to the plot—feels surprisingly underwhelming.

There’s still plenty to appreciate here, especially if you enjoy Carpenter’s style and low-budget creativity. But compared to his other films from this time, Escape from New York feels more like a rough draft of something greater than a fully realized classic. A fun ride, but one that leaves you wishing for a bit more depth and impact.

One Battle After Another

Buckle up, because Paul Thomas Anderson’s thrilling and wildly original film One Battle After Another is quite the ride. We went in completely blind…and honestly, it made the experience that much better. The movie surprised us at every turn with its dark humor, sharp dialogue, and a plot that feels completely fresh in a world full of reboots and sequels.

It brings a perfectly crafted soundtrack by Jonny Greenwood (the guitarist from Radiohead), which set a tone that boosted both the anxiety and absurdity throughout, to the standout performances from a truly talented ensemble cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and Chase Infiniti.

For our holiday episode, we sat down with Scrooged, and it ended up being a huge hit with all of us. Dave and Brandon were already familiar with this twisted Christmas classic, but for Eric—being the youngest of the group—this was his very first viewing, Across the board, we praised the film’s sharp production, spot-on casting, and the unforgettable score by Danny Elfman. What stood out was how confidently Scrooged updates A Christmas Carol for a modern audience, balancing cynicism, heart, and humor in a way that still feels relevant decades later. It’s a holiday episode full of laughs, nostalgia, and genuine appreciation for a bold reimagining of a timeless story.

Weapons feels like another strong entry in what we see as a new era of great modern horror. We loved the unique way the film was shot, the unsettling suburban setting, and especially the standout performance from all of the actors, even the main kid actor — which added a lot of emotional weight to the story. While some of the director’s symbolism felt a bit clunky and a few ideas went over our heads, it didn’t stop us from being fully engaged. Overall, Weapons gave us plenty to talk about and left a lasting impression.

For this Shocktober, The Nomads of Fantasy dive into the long-awaited anime adaptation of Uzumaki—Junji Ito’s hypnotic horror classic about a town consumed by spirals. Across four episodes, we found ourselves mesmerized by the haunting black-and-white art direction and genuinely impressed by the eerie tone of the first episode. Unfortunately, that’s where the spiral started to unravel. With almost no character development, a disjointed story, and an ending that left us more frustrated than frightened, Uzumaki became an experience that tested our patience as much as our sanity. Still, with its troubled production and ambitious visuals, it’s worth at least one watch—just maybe not all four.

This will be our second installment into our Shocktober series, and as those who have been diving into Indian cinema recently, Tumbbad completely blows us away. It’s not your typical horror movie—it feels like a dark fairy tale wrapped in myth and drenched in atmosphere. The story follows generations of greed centered around a cursed treasure and a forgotten god, all set in a remote, rain-soaked village that feels like a character itself. Every frame is rich with texture and detail, from the haunting score to the earthy visuals that make it feel timeless. It’s part horror, part fantasy, and part moral fable, blending traditional folklore with a cinematic style that rivals anything from Hollywood.

If you’ve been enjoying movies from India lately, Tumbbad is one of those rare films that makes you appreciate just how rich and diverse the country’s creative voice truly is.

While the casting choices might feel like the “safe bet” for this director, the acting across the board is still phenomenal and had us hooked. We talk about the film’s hefty runtime, its lackluster ending, and how its ultimate message is one of self-destruction—everyone in this story creates their own downfall. We also reflect on how Vegas itself has changed, no longer resembling the gritty, glamorous world Scorsese captured on screen. Despite its flaws, Casino is a movie everyone should see, and we had a blast breaking it all down.

As we continue or Summer of Sam, we bring in Sam Elliott and finally rolling into the lanes of one of cinema’s most beloved cult classics: The Big Lebowski. Starring Jeff Bridges as the effortlessly iconic “The Dude,” John Goodman as the unhinged Vietnam vet Walter, Steve Buscemi as the soft-spoken Donny, Julianne Moore as the enigmatic Maude, and John Turturro as the unforgettable Jesus Quintana, this 1998 Coen Brothers comedy had us laughing, quoting, and marveling at how well it still holds up. Whether it’s the surreal dream sequences, the endlessly quotable dialogue, or the offbeat charm of every character, The Big Lebowski remains as fresh and funny as ever.

Revisiting this film felt less like watching a movie and more like hanging out with old friends. When you check into Tokyo Vampire Hotel, you might expect a thrilling, blood-soaked horror fest that lives up to its dramatic name. Instead, you’ll find a chaotic, over-the-top mess that’s more draining than it is exciting. Directed by Sion Sono, known for his daring and unique style, this series somehow manages to be both visually striking and narratively disappointing. Despite its flashes of brilliance, Tokyo Vampire Hotel fails to deliver a cohesive or engaging story, leaving viewers lost in a labyrinth of uninteresting plotlines and hollow characters.

The Story: A Chaotic Bite

Tokyo Vampire Hotel centers around a battle between two ancient vampire clans, with the fate of humanity hanging in the balance. The concept had potential, especially with the eerie, gothic atmosphere that the series tries to cultivate. Unfortunately, the execution falls flat. The plot quickly becomes a confusing jumble of subplots, time jumps, and dramatic set pieces that fail to connect. Instead of a compelling narrative, viewers are served a chaotic buffet of violence, gore, and supernatural theatrics, none of which feel earned or meaningful. The series never quite decides whether it wants to be a dark fantasy, a survival thriller, or an action horror, resulting in a tonal mess.

Uninteresting Protagonists: All Bite, No Charm

One of the most significant weaknesses of Tokyo Vampire Hotel is its lackluster characters. Despite strong performances from the cast, particularly Ami Tomite as Manami and Kaho as the enigmatic K, the protagonists feel more like props than people. Their motivations are murky, and their development is practically nonexistent, making it hard for viewers to care about their fates. Shinnosuke Mitsushima and Megumi Kagurazaka bring intensity to their roles, but the script gives them little to work with. Even in the midst of chaos, the characters’ reactions feel strangely muted, as if they’re going through the motions rather than truly living in this world.

Visually Striking, But Style Over Substance

Credit where it’s due: Sion Sono brings his signature style to the series, filling it with bold, colorful visuals and moments of surreal beauty. The set design of the hotel, with its gothic grandeur and claustrophobic corridors, creates a sense of dread that almost makes you want to see what’s around the next corner. Yet, this aesthetic flair can’t hide the lack of substance underneath. The endless stylized violence and frantic editing become exhausting rather than thrilling, and the series often feels like it’s trying too hard to shock rather than to tell a coherent story.

Verdict: Not Worth the Stay

Tokyo Vampire Hotel could have been a stylish, adrenaline-pumping addition to the vampire genre. Instead, it ends up feeling like a missed opportunity—a series with a striking visual palette but no real heart. With a convoluted story, uninteresting protagonists, and a style that prioritizes spectacle over storytelling, it’s a show that ultimately bites off more than it can chew. Unless you’re a die-hard Sion Sono fan or in desperate need of something to watch, this is one hotel you might want to skip.

Let's go back to when comic book movies were just starting to take over the box office. Its 2005 and director Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller release one of the most faithful adaptations for the genre. The movie is called Sin City.

Maybe you've seen this one, maybe you haven't. We recommend that you check this movie out again only because there's nothing just quite like it. It does make you wonder why more movies try this look.

Beyond the visuals, Sin City has some heart to its short stories, and some fun performances from the cast. We'll just say it now, Mickey Rourke crushed his role as Marv.

True Grit, when dark comedy meets the west.

Hello nomads and welcome to the wild west. A time when sometimes you gotta take care of things yourself. Thats exactly what Mattie did, when she hired ole Rooster to find the man who killed her father. Specifically, we're talking about the 2010 version of True Grit, which was made by the great Coen Brothers. And with them, they bring Jeff Bridges as their big lead, opposite of Matt Damon.

While this might be a dark comedy that takes place in the west, it does have a great deal of heart. Each character is extremely well acted, and the music and camera capture the sad adventure our characters set out on.

Is Predator the perfect action movie?

Nomads, get to the choppaaaaaaa! Doooo eeeetttt! Dooooo eeeettttt nooowwwwww! And then turn on the movie Predator from 1987, because we're about to get into it.

Directed by John McTiernan, Predator is a special kind of action movie. Not only is it starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and the beginning of his massive rise to fame, but it also has a fun cast of super manly dudes, one of the coolest alien designs in cinema, some creepy scenes, explosions, one-liners, and really lame jokes about a woman's private parts.

So why is this action movie so good that it started a long running franchise? And will we ever see Dutch light up a cigar again?

The Menu

Is The Menu a good movie? Yes, chef!

The Nomad’s Burger Recipe

A burger that samples flavors from around the world. We call it The Nomad’s Burger.

The Basics

Kobe Beef

Brioche Bun ( lightly toast just before eating)

Swiss cheese

Boston Lettuce

Miso Butter

1 Tbsp White Miso Paste

1 Tbsp Butter

Mix together

Kimchi Aioli

1/4 Cup Kimchi (Squeezed)

2 Tbsp Mayo

Pulse the kimchi in a food processor or mince
Fold in the Mayo

Caramelized Spanish Onions

1 Small Spanish Onion

Olive Oil

Drizzle olive oil in pan and heat to medium.
Slice onions longways (julienne)
Stir and turn down the temp to medium/low
Cook about 15 mins, allowing to brown (Careful not to burn it Chef will flip out!)
A pinch of salt will bring out the sweetness

Tomato Tamarind Chutney

1 Ripe tomato (diced)

1/4 Cup tamarind paste

3 Tbsp brown sugar

3 Cloves

1 Pinch of salt

2 Pinches of crushed black pepper

Combine in a small saucepan
Add enough water to go a little less than halfway to the top of the tomatoes
Bring to a boil
Once boiling, reduce to a simmer and cook for about 20 mins (or until it starts to thicken up)
Cook fully before use

Assemble and enjoy!

Hello nomads, and we have to ask, anyone who hasn't seen Last Action Hero is making a big mistake. Fun fact, the director of Die Hard, Hunt for Red October and Predator, John McTiernan, also directed this film. This random action-comedy-parody that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger was probably missed by many, but we'd recommend giving this movie a chance. If you are a fan of the action movies from the 80's and 90's, you're gonna love this.

Hello nomads and welcome to our discussion about one of our favorite indie games from back in 2016, Firewatch. Firewatch is a fairly short game that takes 4-5 hours to play, and it was made by a super talented, yet small team, Camp Santo. This game has great music, fantastic art direction, great acting, and an unforgettable story. We highly suggest you play the game before listening to this show.

Poor Henry, maybe we'll meet you and Delilah once again if they ever make the film adaption. Or maybe this story is best left to be a short, sweet, and mysterious little game that made everyone escape their life for a couple hours.

Hello nomads and here we are, the final episode of The Book of Boba Fett. So what did you think about chapter 7? Did it deliver on expectations? Did you get enough Boba Fett in this one? What happens next? Also, how bad ass is Boba Fett riding a Rancor with one hand?!

We're a little mixed on this one, but overall we enjoyed the episode as well as the first season for this iconic character. It's always a sad thing when a Star Wars show ends, but we have Kenobi, Ahsoka, and The Mandalorian Season 3 to look forward to.

In this episode we start by catching up with the nomads where Brandon talks about the movies 1917 and Luca, Dave has been watching Loki on Disney+, Eric watched Season 5 of My Hero Academia while still working through Griftlands, and all three nomads checked out the new Dungeon & Dragon's game called Dark Alliance.

The main focus of our conversation is coop games where we try our best to organize and recommend some of the best games in this genre. So grab a buddy or two and listen together as we praise the fun of coop games!

Brandon is a big fan of this movie, while Eric and Dave had yet to see it up until just before this episode.
