Two Weeks Old: Healing

The cliche saying that “things get worse before they get better” was definitely true for our postpartum experience. In our second week at home, the healing was only just beginning. Taking care of a newborn and taking care of yourself can be challenging. In America, some dads only get a two week paternity leave. There is no way we would have survived if that was true for us.

The first week home with your newborn can be filled with overwhelm and emotions. We knew that it would be hard, but it wasn’t hard in the ways that we thought. Along with being first time parents, we were facing challenges that not every family has to deal with like jaundice scares and infections. The best news of all is that it did get better.
