Dr Audrey Cohan is Senior Dean for Research, Scholarship, and Graduate Studies at Molloy University, Rockville Centre, New York.

During her career at Molloy University, Audrey has worked as Professor, Chairperson of the Education Department, and Interim Dean for the Division of Natural Sciences. She began her career as a special education teacher in New York City before focusing on multilingual learners with exceptionalities after gaining TESOL certification.

She has co-authored and co-edited 13 books and numerous journal articles focused on education, inclusion, and supporting diverse learners.

Susan Stewart is Director at Articulate Multilingual and has extensive experience in international education, multilingual language programmes, and developing research-informed language curricula.

Having lived and worked in South Africa, Thailand, the UAE, Belgium, Oman, Sweden, and the UK, Susan brings a global perspective to multilingual education. She has raised two bilingual children and is a lifelong learner of languages, speaking English, French, Dutch, German, Afrikaans, Swedish, Arabic, and British Sign Language (BSL) to varying degrees.

Susan regularly delivers parent workshops on raising bilingual children and has a particular interest in language policy as a tool for promoting multilingualism within families, schools, and wider communities.

Passionate about wellbeing, coaching, and staff development, Sabah leads bespoke CPD programmes for educators, including new teachers and those in initial teacher training. She has also worked collaboratively with schools to develop curriculum approaches as part of post-pandemic education recovery.

Meet Yoshito Darmon-Shimamori

Yoshito Darmon-Shimamori is a French and Spanish teacher in a secondary school in England. He is half-French and half-Japanese and was raised bilingually and bi-culturally in France.

As a multilingual parent raising his two sons to be multilingual, multicultural, and multi-literate, Yoshito has a deep personal and professional understanding of the challenges and opportunities that come with multilingualism.

Growing up, Yoshito experienced the importance of language as a bridge between cultures. His own experiences of developing literacy in different languages inspired him to explore how children and young people can be supported to maintain their languages and feel proud of their identities.

He is the author of In Search of the Lost Words and The Parents’ Guide to Raising Multi-literate Children. Through his work, including his multilingual parenting platform, Yoshito shares practical guidance with families and educators supporting multilingual children.

Meet Marcelo Staricoff

Marcelo Staricoff is the author of The Joy of Not Knowing (Routledge, 2021), a former scientist and primary school headteacher, and a Lecturer in Education at the University of Sussex, where he is joint course leader of the BA Primary and Early Years Programme.

Marcelo has worked internationally with educators, policymakers, and organisations including UNICEF, supporting curriculum development and educational change. He also works with Coram, the children’s charity, advises schools and educational organisations, and regularly speaks at national and international education events.

His work focuses on creative, critical, multilingual, multicultural, and philosophical thinking in the classroom. Marcelo is a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Education (APPG), a Trustee of the Laurel Trust, Chair of the Michael Aldrich Foundation, and a Fellow of both the Chartered College of Teaching and the Higher Education Academy.

Meet Anna Czebiolko

Anna Czebiolko began her EAL career as a language support assistant before training to become a teacher. Since starting to work with EAL learners in 2009, she has supported children across every year group, from nursery through to sixth form.

Anna is currently Head of EAL at Harrogate Ladies’ College in North Yorkshire. Previously, she coordinated EAL provision for seven years in a large secondary academy in Leeds.

Passionate about innovative approaches to supporting multilingual learners, Anna regularly shares her expertise with teachers and practitioners. She is an active workshop and seminar presenter and has presented at several EAL conferences, including events organised by NALDIC.

She also hosts The Language Revolution podcast, exploring how language awareness can inform and transform language teaching, with guests including leading voices in education and linguistics. Cate is also Chair of the annual conference for NALDIC, the national subject association for EAL.

Catherine holds a degree from Oxford University, a Master's degree in Education and International Development from the Institute of Education, and is an honorary fellow at Winchester University.

Eowyn holds a B.Ed. in Teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language and a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics, specialising in language learning, language teaching, and bilingual education. She is currently a Senior Lecturer at Oxford Brookes University in English Language and TESOL, with a focus on the PG Cert Teaching Multilingual Learners.

Christina Hingley is an experienced Modern Foreign Languages educator and whole-school coordinator at Firth Park Academy in Sheffield. Soma Dey

Soma Dey is an English as an Additional Language Leader of Learning for Glasgow City Council and a primary teacher with 13 years of experience. Having worked as an EAL teacher for several years, Soma is passionate about supporting multilingual learners and working collaboratively with schools to promote equality and inclusion across Scottish education. Her recent work has focused on improving representation in classroom texts and literature.

Stephen Dolan

Stephen Dolan is a secondary teacher in Glasgow and part of the EAL Leader of Learning team. He supports practitioners through CLPL (Career-Long Professional Learning), developing resources and sharing effective EAL pedagogy. Stevie has recently worked with colleagues on professional learning focused on using diverse texts in the classroom.

Aleksandra Hempler

Aleksandra Hempler is an EAL Leader of Learning for Glasgow City Council with nearly a decade of experience in EAL education. As a linguist and former EAL learner, Aleksandra is passionate about bilingualism, diversity, and research-informed approaches to language acquisition. Her interests include equalities, digital leadership, STEM, and effective EAL provision.
