Starring British actress Rosamund Pike, The Wheel of Time is a fantasy epic not unlike Game of Thrones, yet with elements drawn from eastern philosophy. Graham & Jocelyn began by admitting they were late joining the party of fans of the Wheel of Time as Prime Video had originally opted to release weekly episodes of the show; which didn't fit Graham & Jocelyn's binge-watching style. Jocelyn admits she is not a fan of "swords & sorcery" shows, but was pleasantly surprised after she started watching TWoT. Graham & Jocelyn dissected TWoT both from the perspective of its metaphysical allegories, its philosophical nuances, and of course cast's performance. Graham had high praise for Rosamund Pike's performance while Jocelyn highlighted Pike's ability to play "powerful women" while removing any sense of otherness from the character. Graham found the movie difficult to enjoy as he thought Javier Bardem wasn't the right actor to play the role of Desi Arnaz. Graham also said he watched The Mosquito Coast from Apple TV+ on Christmas day. The Harder They Fall: Great Western Film, Or Too Much Style Over Substance?

A film by Jeymes Samuel, British writer, director, singer-songwriter, and music produce. The Harder They Fall became one of the most anticipated and talked about upcoming films in 2021 because it would be a Western film featuring all black cast; which included Regina King, Idris Elba, Zazie Beetz, Jonathan Majors, Lakeith Stanfield, among others. The film, although a fictional story, portrayed real-life historical Black Americans who existed in the old American West. Graham, Jocelyn, Geaux Dee, and Smash review the film's overall production from the story arcs, the portrayals, the score, and its visual components as a whole. They also ponder whether The Harder The Fall is a great Western film by itself, or it was perhaps aided by the constellation of stars who appeared in it. The crew also addressed the accusations of colorism levied at the director and the producers of the movie for casting German-American actress Zazie Beetz as the very well known African-American female icon 'Stagecoach Mary.' Dave Chappelle 'The Closer': Still The GOAT, Still Dead Wrong!

On this week's episode of Kickin & Streamin Podcast, Graham & Jocelyn review Dave Chappelle's final Netflix stand-up special The Closer, in which he addresses past controversies and his long standing feud with the LGBTQ community among others. Graham & Jocelyn begin by acknowledging that Dave Chappelle is a master of the provocative comedy and one of the most individuals in the art of standup comedy. Graham asks whether any of the points Chappelle makes in The Closer are genuinely what the comedian believes, or is he presenting us with an undecipherable parable whose point we're missing? Graham and Jocelyn dissect the content of the comedy special and the multiple jabs Chappelle directed at the LGBTQ community, especially towards the Trans community. Graham & Jocelyn revisit together some of the more incendiary statements during The Closer, and Dave's seemingly shrugging off the accusations of being transphobic because he was friends with the late Transgender stand-up comedian Daphne Dorman who died by suicide a few months after defending Dave's 2019 Netflix Special Sticks & Stones. Graham & Jocelyn end the episode condemning the vociferous calls from various sectors of the LGBTQ community demanding the removal of The Closer from Netflix's platform. Graham believes Dave Chappelle ended his special by extending an olive branch to a community he feels might have failed to listen to his grievances and towards whom it's directed. Graham & Jocelyn posit, furthermore, that it's important to accept the fact that Dave Chappelle is a master "provocateur par excellence;" therefore his art should be taken with a grain of salt, but called out whenever necessary.

Apple TV+'s CODA: An Absolute Must-Watch!

On this week's episode of Kickin & Streamin Podcast, Graham & Jocelyn discuss Apple TV+'s original movie 'CODA' starring Emilia Jones, Marlee Matlin, Eugenio Derbez, Troy Kotsur, and Daniel Durant. The film is a coming of age story of Ruby, the child of deaf adults (CODA), and only hearing child of her parent's two children. Before discussing the film, Graham took a moment to explain why there was no episode of the podcast published last week, due to the fact that on Saturday August 14, 2021, Graham's country of origin, Haiti, was affected by a 7.2 earthquake just 11 years after being hit by one; which killed thousands of people and left hundreds of thousand Haitians homeless. Graham stated his family is okay, but for the better part of that weekend, he couldn't establish contact with other extended family members. Graham also encourage listeners to find out how to help and contribute to the various non-profit organizations bringing aid to Haiti, and recommended to look for the organization Haitian Heritage and Friends of Haiti(HHFOH); which is a non-profit organization Graham has worked with since the first earthquake in Haiti. A variety of medical professionals and other Haitian-American humanitarian member of HHFOH will bring aides to Haiti on September 5th, and will be in Haiti for several weeks helping those in need. Graham reflected on the existing parallels between CODA and Sound of Metal, another film discussed on the podcast earlier this year. The co-host established the two movies aren't particularly similar stories, but they both humanize and offer understanding into the world of deaf individuals. Graham & Jocelyn discussed the cast and praised the fact that the main actors who portrayed deaf character are in fact deaf actors. Graham spoke highly of the performance by Mexican actor and comedian Eugenio Derbez, as he reminisce on a skit TV program the actor used to have on Latin-American television. Graham referred to a comedic character by Derbez called "El Lonje Moco," which Graham enjoyed and found funny mainly because it annoyed his wife Christine. Coming 2 America? We Didn't Hate It, But....

On this week's episode of Kickin & Streamin Podcast Graham & Jocelyn discuss the much awaited film Coming 2 America, a sequel to Eddie Murphy's 1988 film Coming To America, starring himself and Arsenio Hall. Before delving into the main topic, Graham & Jocelyn also discussed the season finale of Wanda Vision which also took place on the same day of Coming 2 America's release. Graham & Jocelyn praised Disney's serious production approach to the series especially with the cinematic special effects displayed throughout the show's entire season. Graham & Jocelyn also speculated about possible spinoffs, and origin stories as a result of the many cameo appearances by many characters from other franchises within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Graham & Jocelyn then, initiated the main conversation about Coming 2 America. Graham expressed his fondness for the original film, and the memorable quotes and one-liners he and some friends still use. Jocelyn agrees that although she hasn't seen the original movie, she's aware of the cultural phenomenon it has been and how it has influenced American culture. Graham believes Coming 2 America by itself is an absolutely hilarious and acceptable film, but not necessarily as a sequel to the original movie released some 33 years ago. Judas & The Black Messiah: There's A Good Case To Be Made For This Judas...Hear Us Out

On this episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast Graham & Jocelyn discuss the movie Judas & The Black Messiah starring Daniel Kaluuya, Lakeith Stanfield, Dominique Fishback and a cast of supporting actors under the direction of Shaka King. Graham begins by explaining why the film isn't necessarily a biopic of Fred Hampton's life, but rather the circumstances leading to his assassination. Jocelyn provided a synopsis of the film and began to discuss the movie with Graham. Graham pointed out the parallels between Judas Iscariot who betrayed Jesus as a disillusioned disciple who expected Jesus to be political revolutionary as opposed to the pacifist "fisher of men" he claimed to be; whereas William O'Neal, the character referred to as Judas in this movie, is a criminal cornered and coerced by the FBI to infiltrate the Black Panther Party in exchange for dismissal of his criminal charges. Jocelyn referred to and recommended an article by the The Smithsonian Magazine where a detailed account of the real life story of Fred Hampton and William O'Neal is chronicled. Jocelyn even went as far as to suggest the late Chadwick Boseman was also deserving of a nomination for best supporting actor. Graham & Jocelyn also criticized the lack of nomination for 'The Boys,' 'I May Destroy You,' and 'Tales from The Loop.' Graham & Jocelyn wonder how the legend of Lupin has not made it into the English-speaking consciousness given the similarities of Lupin to other characters in the English-speaking folklore such as Robin Hood, Simon Templar, and even Sherlock Holmes. The film is said to be Boseman's very last acting work before his death. Small Axe: A Love Letter To London's West Indian Diaspora

On this week's episode of Kickin' ' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham hosts the podcast solo as Jocelyn was unwell at the time of recording. Graham began by asking listeners to be lenient and bare with him as he attempts to "fly solo" on this episode discussing the Amazon Prime Video mini -series "Small Axe," an anthology of 5 movies directed by Academy Award-winning British filmmaker Steve McQueen. Graham explains that Small Axe is collection of stories about the lives of West Indian immigrants in London during the 1960's and 1970's. As of now, only 3 out of 5 films in Small Axe are available to stream on Prime Video and they are: 'Mangrove,' 'Lovers Rock,' and 'Red, White & Blue.' Graham began to discuss Mangrove, the first of the films; which tells the story of Frank Crichlow, played by Shaun Parkes the owner of a Caribbean restaurant in Notting Hill, London, who was the subject of police harassment; which led to a demonstration organized by the London Black Panther Party led by Altheia Jones- Lecointe, played by British-Guyanese actress Letitia Wright, and Darcus Howe, played by Malachi Kirby. The demonstration led to a confrontation with the police; which led to the arrest and subsequent show trial known of 'The Mangrove 9.' Graham then, discussed the film Lovers Rock; which is an exhilarating, and beautiful tribute to the "Lovers, the Rockers who love the Blues" Finally, Graham discussed the film Red White & Blue starring British-Nigerian actor John Boyega. This movie is about a British young man of Jamaican descent, who decided to join the London Metropolitan police force after his father was brutalized by the same police department. Hillbilly Elegy: An Ode To The "By The Bootstrap" Bullsh*t Gospel

On this week's episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham & Jocelyn discuss the Netflix movie Hillbilly Elegy, based on a memoir by the same title written by J.D. Vance. Graham begins by addressing the controversy surrounded by the book; which at the time of its publication, became a point of argument in which people on the conservative political spectrum touted the book as a testament of its author achieving the "American Dream" by rising out of the poverty-stricken Appalachia region of America to an Ivy League college graduated lawyer. Whereas those in the liberal spectrum of American politics viewed the book as far less of a success story, but rather a vivid account of a part of America that has been left uncared for and its people devastated by poverty, lack of opportunities, and an increasing opioid addiction problem. Jocelyn addressed the movies lazy portrayal of poor people and its enforcement of stereotypes which have been long used by rich people to describe and portray poor white people, and people of color. Jocelyn went on to explain in great detail all the things the movie got wrong and why such a negative narrative about America's poorest regions is dangerous, and it hinders the necessary help and social improvements the region lacks. Jocelyn also took issue with the misogynistic portrayal of the women in the story, where it seems to suggest that it takes being a "male" to make it out of poverty. For a greater understanding of Jocelyn's rebuke of this movie, Jocelyn invites listeners to read an article written by Alison Stine, an author from the Appalachian region who still currently lives there. On this episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham and Jocelyn discuss a Netflix original four-part documentary titled Challenger: The Final Flight; which gives an in-depth analysis to the buildup and aftermath of the Challenger tragedy of January 1986. Graham began by remembering what little he knew about the Challenger story as he was a 10 year-old child in his native Haiti. Jocelyn remembers being off from school on the day of the tragedy, but could not remember the reason she wasn't in school. Graham & Jocelyn chat further as to why this documentary is of utmost important in the present days and what it means for those of us who were young children at the time; much like the recent younger generation which were little at the time of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The co-hosts continued to delve into the film, analyzing the attempted cover-up on the part of NASA and how the tragedy could have been averted. Wasp Network: The Spy Story You Knew Nothing About

On this episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham & Jocelyn discuss an obscure, yet brilliant Netflix Original movie titled: Wasp Network; starring Penelope Cruz, Edgar Ramirez, Ana de Armas, Wagner Moura, and Gael Garcia Bernal. The movie is based on a real story written detailed in a book The Last Soldiers of The Cold Was by author Fernando Morais. Graham & Jocelyn began by asking why this movie doesn't seem to have been promoted fairly by Netflix given the fact it premiered in June. Graham found out about the movie while flipping through Netflix a few h ago, but failed to put it on his watch list, and when he returned to look for the movie, he had to perform a search for it. Graham speculated whether the Cuban-American community may have lobbied against the movie with Netflix, Jocelyn confirmed she'd read the Cuban-American community in Miami wasn't thrilled about the movie. Graham & Jocelyn wondered whether Netflix was truly the ultimate destination for Wasp Network since it had premiered in France back in January and was scheduled to be released elsewhere in Europe; which led Jocelyn to think Wasp Network may have been destined for cinema, but had to be released on Netflix due to the pandemic. Exploring HBO's Lovecraft Country

On this week's episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham & Jocelyn discuss HBO's original series Lovecraft Country, starring Jonathan Majors, Jurnee Smollett, Michael K. Williams. Before delving into the topic, Graham & Jocelyn took a moment to express their sadness and shock at the sudden passing of Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman. Jocelyn said when learned of Boseman's untimely death, she thought it was as a result of some car crash or another kind of tragic sudden death, but she then learned the actor 43 year-old had been secretly fighting colon cancer for almost four years, all the while going about his life and filming 9 different movies during that difficult time. Graham reflected on Boseman's illustrious, albeit short movie career and stated it was almost impossible to pinpoint a bad movie from the Anderson, South Carolina native. Rest In Peace, Chadwick Boseman!
Graham & Jocelyn began to discuss the series Lovecraft Country; which at the time of recording, had only aired two episodes. Jocelyn likes the series and says it was the kind of show she really enjoys. Reviewing Netflix's Project Power

Graham & Jocelyn agree that although the movie had all the bells and whistles deserving of a theatrical release, in the end, Project Power offered a better cast than the movie it could have been. Jocelyn suggested movie critics seem to more understanding and less harsh in their criticism of streaming platforms like Netflix when they fail to deliver from multi-million dollar blockbusters like Project Power. Graham agrees,and added Project Power was by all account a good action movie with a flawed storytelling style delivery. Netflix's "Cursed:" Wait... What's This Show About Again???

On the first half, Graham & Jocelyn discuss the documentary film "Mucho Mucho Amor...The Legend of Walter Mercado" a Puerto Rican-born actor and dancer who eventually became one the most famous and beloved astrologers in Latin America and the world. Jocelyn provides a plausible explanation as to why more English-speaking Americans did not seem to know much about Walter Mercado's life story even though for most of his career, he lived and worked in mainland US and had a bilingual following. Jocelyn also said the film was a perfectly fitting love letter and a well deserved tribute to Walter who was a kind, gentle, and almost child-like soul. Graham shared his experience as a child growing up in the Dominican Republic and how many mothers, grandmothers, and entire families were glued to their TV set waiting for Walter Mercado's horoscope segment. Jocelyn & Graham also discuss how Walter's approach to astrology and horoscope was never misleading, or about making money and scamming, but rather through a message of positivism and empowerment. "Mucho Mucho Amor...The Legend of Walter Mercado" is streaming on Netflix. On the second half of the podcast, Graham & Jocelyn discuss the movie The Old Guard starring Charlize Theron, Kiki Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts & Chiwetel Ejiofor, and a fantastic cast of actors. Jocelyn gave a brief synopsis of the movie and said she found the movie to be highly entertaining and found Charlize Theron to be credible as Andy. Ep. 62.- Reviewing Netflix's "Extraction" With Special Guest Jorge de Moya

On this episode of Kickin' & streamin' Podcast, Graham and Jocelyn are joined by Jorge de Moya of Couch Dads Podcast to review Netflix original movie Extraction, starring Chris Hemsworth along with a magnificent cast of Bollywood stars. Graham started by admitting his low expectations of the movie prior to watching and how he ended up being pleasantly surprised with the technical achievements of the movie. Jorge dived into the technical aspects of the making of the movie; which involved the "one shot" technique, and how it has become prevalent in the making of action movies. Graham, Jocelyn and Jorge talked about this movie being directed by Sam Hargrave, a stunt director famous for coordinating stunts for the Avengers movies. Jocelyn and Graham pondered why it wasn't more frequent to see stunt coordinators take the leap into directing movies given the fact they're the ones responsible to deliver the actions we attribute to the actors who most of the time don't participate in the stunt performance at all. Graham, Jocelyn, and Jorge touched on some of the negative criticism the movie has received accusing it of being just another "white savior" flick. Jorge and Jocelyn agree the film's plot is a lot more complex to be categorized as a "white savior" film, and to do so was flat out absence of nuance on the part of the critics in question. Jorge & Jocelyn don't expect a lot of Hollywood accolade for the technical achievements in this film, mainly because it was made for a streaming service provider and not for theatrical release. Graham & Jocelyn delved into the differences between the book and the movie, analyzing what worked out and what didn't as the book went into movie format. Graham & Jocelyn review some of the most important and attractive moments of the movie, and the significance of its cast. Jocelyn was particularly moved by the role of school counselor Mr. Jenkins, portrayed brilliantly by Craig Robinson, along with veteran actor Wallace Shawn as Mr. Crokus and his familiar noises and grunts. Ep. 54 Troop Zero: A Nod To The Most Adorable Little Underdogs

On this week's episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast. Graham and Jocelyn discuss Amazon Prime original movie Troop Zero, starring Viola Davis, Jim Gaffigan, McKenna Grace, Allison Janney. Graham began by telling Jocelyn about his experience at Podfest; which took place this past weekend in Orlando, Florida. The two co hosts then began discussing the Prime original movie, and Graham begins by asking Jocelyn about her thoughts on it. Jocelyn says she enjoyed the movie thoroughly and describes it as a different way of telling the "underdog story." Jocelyn then, proceeded to give a magnificently accurate synopsis of Troop Zero, and Graham notated he also enjoyed the movie, and he was at some point moved to tears while watching it. Graham also thinks everyone should be proud of all the children who acted in the movie. Graham and Jocelyn began discussing the cast, starting with Viola Davis as Miss Ryleen and how she gave an honest performance of a southern black woman in the 1970s, frustrated stuck in a small rural town when in her youth she thought and believe she was destined for greater things. Graham & Jocelyn praised Jim Gaffigan's credible performance as Ramsey Flint, as well as young actress McKenna Grace as his daughter Christmas Flint. Jocelyn further praised Gaffigan's surprisingly dignified portrayal of a character; which could have easily been a caricature of a southern Rural lawyer in the 1970s. The two co host then continued to discuss the remaining characters in the show including the performance of Allison Janney. Jocelyn thought Allison Janney nailed the southern accent and pointed out that most actors seem to think doing a southern accent is an easy thin to do when in reality it's more complex than simply pulling off a twang. Graham & Jocelyn began by pointing out the main reason they were drawn to the series is because it is executive produced by Jordan Peele, it stars Al Pacino, and the plot consists of holocaust survivors hunting former Nazi officers living in the U.S. under newly assumed identities. Graham & Jocelyn discuss the storytelling style of the series, and the impact it may have on viewers given the fact it's based on late 1970's, some 35 years after World War II. Graham & Jocelyn discuss the cast and analyze each character in depth starting with Al Pacino's perfect dominion of Yiddish dialect and very credible accent of a Jewish immigrant. Jocelyn marveled at the depth in the character of FBI Agent Millie Morris played by Grey's Anatomy alum Jerrika Hinton. Graham & Jocelyn praise the pairing of Carol Kane and Saul Rubinek as Mindy & Murray Markowitz. They also laughed at Josh Radnor's character and how he will forever be known as Ted Mosby (How I Met Your Mother). The two co-host also praised the performance by Dylan Baker, Greg Austin, Tiffany Boone, and Jonno Davies. They also got a good laugh at some of the nicknames heard in the show. Ep. 52. A State of The Binge-Watch Address: What Are Jocelyn & Graham Currently Watching?

On this episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham & Jocelyn discuss series and shows they are currently binge-watching, and the upcoming seasons of shows and series which they regularly watch. Jocelyn began by highlighting how she recently watched the series Criminal -the UK version- which she enjoyed, especially the episode with David Tennant. Graham remembers having watched the Australian version of Criminal, but didn't know each country had its own version. Graham tells Jocelyn he's re-acquaintance with the detective show Prime Suspect starring Oscar winning actress Helen Mirren. The show aired in the mid 90s in the UK, and in the US via PBS. Graham complained about Britbox not showing Season 9 of the British tropical murder mystery series Death in Paradise; which began airing in the UK since late January. Graham explains the exit from the show of current main actor Ardal O'Hanlon, who plays the character of Detective Inspector (DI) Jack Mooney. Jocelyn also recommended a show called Quite Interesting (QI); which was originally hosted by Stephen Frye, and has several seasons currently available on Britbox. Graham & Jocelyn reminded listeners why they should get Britbox if they enjoy British television shows. Jocelyn watched the Netflix docu-series "The Mind of Aaron Hernandez" and lamented that more details weren't offered on the issue of brain damage due to repeated concussions suffered by American Football players. Graham binge watched Narcos Mexico Season 2 and recommended Jocelyn begins watching Narcos starting from the very first series which chronicled the life and times of former Colombian drug kingpin and Medellin Cartel top boss Pablo Escobar. Graham also binge watched two seasons of HBO show succession and was very impressed with the series. The conversation continues and the two co-hosts spoke at length about upcoming season to other series and shows they're looking forward to watching, such as Ricky Gervais' Afterlife and more. On this week's episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham & Jocelyn discuss the 92nd Academy Awards ceremony celebrated on Sunday February 8, 2020 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California. Graham highlighted the fact that the show didn't feature a host for the second year in a row, and Jocelyn says she likes the "hostless" Oscars. Graham commented on the musical opening by singer Janelle Monae, whom he praised for her highly entertaining performance. Graham also pokes fun at Janelle Monae's impeccably white teeth. Jocelyn and Graham commented on each one of the comedic bits presented throughout the night from Steve Martin & Chris Rock to Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig, and James Corden & Rebel Wilson. The two co-host remarked that the award ceremony didn't feel as long, and wondered if having a host or not made the show longer or shorter in duration. Graham & Jocelyn then began to extrapolate the awards presented on the night. Both Jocelyn and Graham admitted they weren't surprised that the South Korean movie Parasite started the night off by winning Best Original Screenplay. Jocelyn is Happy to see Polynesian actor and director Taika Waititi make history by winning an Oscar for the Best Adapted Screenplay for Jojo Rabbitt. Jocelyn says the series evoked a Pavlovian reaction on her as it brought back memories of her days working in broadcast TV in her early twenties. Jocelyn recalls how a culture of misogyny and disrespectful towards women in the workplace seemed to go unchecked and brushed aside as normal.
Graham & Jocelyn analyze the series and the light it sheds on the #MeToo movement and the consequences it leaves on its path.

Ep. 48.- The Witcher: Greatest New Show, Or Much Too Overhyped?

On this week's episode, Graham & Jocelyn discuss Netflix Original Series The Witcher, starring Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra, and Freya Allan, and a fantastic group of other actors.
The co-hosts began by pointing out that The Witcher has incredible entertainment value and it makes viewers want to continue watching it; however the story is inconsistent, if not incoherent at times.
Jocelyn says she struggled to figure out whether she was overthinking the plot line or it's as complicated as it was.
Graham seemed to think too many character were introduced on every episode, and at times it was difficult if some events took place in the past, or the present.
Jocelyn also noted, although she couldn't tell whether Henry Cavill is a good actor or not, she has always felt compelled to look at him because he is "so pretty," but she feels the series has managed to make Cavill unattractive by having don the long silver hair and the "weird-colored" eyes.
Graham & Jocelyn attempt to decipher the premise of the series
Graham & Jocelyn discuss the cast and concluded Henry Cavill seems to be the biggest name among the cast. Graham praised the performance of actress Anya Chalotra, especially during the first three episodes, and all throughout.
Graham & Jocelyn conclude the discussion by encouraging our listeners to watch The Witcher because it's by all account a greatly entertaining, and contains action-packed, well choreographed sword fights, and absolutely fantastic costume designs; however Graham struggles to find the comparisons to Game of Thrones accurate or fair.

Ep. 47 Best TV Shows of The Decade

On this episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham and Jocelyn present their Best TV Shows of The Decade. A review of the state of American and International TV over the pas t decade. Graham began by introducing his 19 year-old son Marcus who was the guest and represented young adults' voice in the reviewing the last decade's best of TV. The trio then moved on to introducing a category they called: "Honorable mentions" which consisted of TV shows which started during the decade prior to the last, but ended during the last decade. Some of the shows mentioned was Community, Park & Recreations, Breaking Bad, among others. Following this preamble, the hosts and their guest began reviewing TV shows of the decade starting with the year 2010. For every year and before discussing the TV shows of each year, Jocelyn reminded us of some of the biggest news headlines of the year in question. This dynamic gave each of us an opportunity to reflect upon those days and the reality in which we live through those years. it was a chance to look back and see how far we've come as a society; while contemplating at times how drastically the same society can go from hopeful to absolute despair and lack of direction. After reflecting on the headlines of each year, we took turns to talk about the TV shows we were watching individually, as well as the most popular TV shows of said years. The conversation continued all the way into the year 2019, and after Graham, Jocelyn and their guest Marcus finished discussing the best TV shows by each individual year, they presented their Top 10 Best TV Shows of the Decade. Ep. 44 Raising Dion: A Fun Little Superhero's Story

On this episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham & Jocelyn discuss Raising Dion, a Netflix original series based on a comic book by Dennis Liu starring Alisha Wainwright, Michael B. Jordan, Ja'siah Young, and Jason Ritter. Graham & Jocelyn found the series to be enjoyable and very watchable, though the storytelling style could have been better. Jocelyn explains how Dennis Liu went about finding ways to get the show picked by a major network after many rejections, so he made it into a comic book along with a short film of the same title. Graham said despite his initial reservations and fear of being disappointed, the series turned out to be incredibly captivating, so much so he ended up binge-watching it over a weekend. Graham & Jocelyn analyzed the cast and Graham said he originally thought Michael B Jordan's role in the show was a cameo, but then he was surprised to see how prominently Michael B Jordan featured on the series, even though his character is presumed dead. Jocelyn and Graham liked Alisha Wainwright, who masterfully played Dion's single mother and a former star ballerina. Graham contend that even though Ms. Wainwright is an extremely attractive actress, she remained committed to showing her acting skills and did not allow her beauty to distract from her acting. Jocelyn agrees, and the two hosts went on to a funny banter about David Caruso's cheesy puns, pose to camera, and sunglasses during the heydays of C.S.I Miami. The conversation about the cast continued and Jocelyn says she finds child actor Ja'siah Young who plays Dion, adorable, and Graham agrees. Then Jocelyn takes moment to talk about actress Sammi Haney, who plays Dion's best friend Esperanza Jimenez, an incredibly talented, funny, and absolutely adorable little girl. Jocelyn talks about Sammi's disability of osteogenesis imperfecta - brittle bone disease- and her desire to be an advocate for people with disability. Ep.43 "The Report" is A Must-watch!

On this episode Graham & Jocelyn discuss Amazon Prime original movie "The Report," starring Adam Driver, Annette Bening, Jon Hamm, and Michael C Hall. Before getting into the heart of the matter, the two co-hosts banter and poked fun at their respective spouse's hometown accents. Then, Jocelyn started the conversation by saying Adam Driver isn't what comes to mind as "leading man" material due to his unconventional looks; however, Adam Driver's acting skills and his inexplicable stage presence has made him an incredibly enjoyable performer. Graham says he too, was puzzled by Adam Driver's combination of great acting skills and mysterious stage presence, until he figured out Driver has an appeal similar to that of British actor Benedict Cumberbatch; which Graham calls the "Cumberbatch Factor," and Jocelyn agrees. Graham asked Jocelyn to give a brief synopsis of movie The Report, after which they proceeded to discuss further the real-life facts surrounding the story on which the movie is based. Graham & Jocelyn praised how the movie remained as closed to the facts surrounding the story of the original report on the CIA's torture scandal in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Both hosts agreed that the movie has no political agenda, and its sole agenda is to tell the truth. Graham says The Report has helped him arrive to the following conclusions: 1.- Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld are war criminals, and if they weren't Americans, they'd have been convicted of war crimes by the International Court of Justice at The Hague, Netherlands. 2.- Former president George W. Bush is the second dumbest American president in history, only bested by current president Donald J Trump. 3.- Senators Dianne Feinstein and John McCain are two of the greatest and most patriotic politicians of the 21st century. 4.- Career government employees (aka) pencil pushers are the best and greatest hope for the preservation of the democracy. Graham & Jocelyn moved on to the cast, praising Adam Driver's masterful performance of FBI agent turned senate staffer Daniel Jones. Graham says he liked the make-up work on Annette Bening's character, but he didn't find it good enough to resemble Sen. Feinstein. Jocelyn agrees and added the make-up seemed more a technique to de-glamorize Annette Bening, so as to make her portrayal of an every-day politician more believable as opposed to her movie star appearance. Graham & Jocelyn discuss Netflix original movie Dolemite Is My Name, a biopic about the life and work of comedian, actor, producer, dancer, and rap icon Rudy Ray Moore, starring Eddie Murphy. Jocelyn begins by pointing out how statistically, she shouldn't have known much about Rudy Ray Moore, or the character of Dolemite, yet she did, even though she cannot bring herself to remember how exactly she became acquainted with both the character or the comedian. Jocelyn begins by saying how she enjoyed the movie although she started watching it without any sort of expectation. Graham points out the movie is a feel-good type of movie about going after success despite how many doors may close on one's face. Jocelyn also describes the movie as a story about family,albeit not blood related, but family. Specifically the way Rudy Ray Moore kept and vouched for his friends and showcased their talent in all of his movies. Graham & Jocelyn discussed the cast, and Jocelyn particularly praised Da'vine Joy Randolph's performance as Lady Reed, who become a close friend and confidant of Rudy Ray Moore and was discovered by him at a moment in her life where she no longer dreamed of stardom. Graham & Jocelyn commented on the cast members and their cohesion within the story, Craig Robinson, Titus Burgess, Keegan-Michael Key, Wesley Snipes, Bob Odenkirk, Chris Rock, and a litany of actors who made this dynamic and absolutely fantastic movie. Graham commented on the movies dedication to the memory of Eddie's older brother Charlie, who passed away last year, and wondered if Eddie's long absence from the screen might be related to the loss of his brother with whom he was very close. Graham then introduces the episode explaining how it came about during a conversation with a long-time friend and former co-worker Ben Velez. This episode doesn't necessarily follow the regular pattern of the show; which is why it's titled off-topic. During the course of an hour, Graham and Ben chat about life, about catching up on friendship, about the dilemma of Cable TV versus streaming, and Ben reveals his undying love for Breaking Bad. The conversation takes several turns as Ben & Graham reminisce about growing up in the Dominican Republic respectively, they both talked about their background and the coincidence of having grown up in nearby neighborhoods in the Dominican Republic, but meeting each other years later in the United States. The conversation returns to its origin of TV streaming, Ben talks about what he's binge-watching, Graham talks about actors being typecast and how some show are available on Netflix to stream abroad and not in the US. The discussion then branched onto the depiction of same-sex relationships on screen, which network of streaming service has made larger strides in portraying said relationship as humanly and normal as possible. Ep. 39 A Review Of "See," Apple TV Plus' First Original Series

On this week's episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham & Jocelyn review Apple TV Plus' first original series "SEE," starring Jason Momoa, Sylvia Hoeks, Alfre Woodard, Hera Hilmar, and Christian Camargo. The series is set in a post-apocalyptic dystopia some two-hundred years after the world population was decimated by a virus which left the few survivors affected by blindness. Jason Momoa is the leader of a small tribe and the stepfather to two children who were born with the gift of sight in a world where the ability to see is considered heresy. Jocelyn begins by saying how she likes the premise of show and that series is simply watchable, although with a lot of flaws. Jocelyn also praises the photography, scenery, and locations depicted in the series, and Graham found it refreshing to see a post-apocalyptic world which is not a depiction of the result utter nuclear devastation. Graham & Jocelyn posited the series could potentially become better since only 3 out of 8 episodes are currently available. However, the three available episodes seem to concentrate more on life at the present without offering some glimpses into the past for context. Jocelyn points out the fact that two-hundred years of blindness seemed too recent for society to have lost knowledge of braille system, almost as though blindness never existed before the apocalyptic events which left the current world in the dark. The two co-host questioned the almost perfect sense of fashion and color picking of a society unable to see colors and a number of other seeming gaffes which the series production seemed to have overlooked. The pair also discussed the cast, both of them admitting they knew very little about most of the cast, except for Jason Momoa and Alfre Woodard. Jocelyn thinks the Sylvia Hoeks looked and has a familiar face, but could not remember from where, or what movie or series she's seen the actress before. Graham also wondered about who actor Christian Camargo was and later realized the actor had a stint in the now defunct soap opera The Guiding Light. Jocelyn & Graham praised actress Nesta Cooper's performance as Haniwa, and made fun of the seeming incompetence and lackluster attitude of the character of Kofun, played by actor Archie Madweke. On this week's episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham & Jocelyn discuss Amazon original series Modern Love, a romantic comedy anthology based on the weekly column published by The New York Times. The series contains 8 episodes, each of which are different stories, of different people, portrayed by different cast of actors. Graham & Jocelyn start by discussing how skeptical they both were before watching the series since they did not know the show was based on real-life stories published on the New York Times, so it was easy to assume the series could have been an overpriced Hallmark Channel romantic sap stories. The two co-host talked about their surprise and relief at the fact that each episode told a story of love, but in different expression, representation and connotations. Jocelyn had high praises for Dev Patel's portrayal of Joshua on the first episode, and talked with Graham about some key moments where each actor shines. Graham marveled at the parade of very well known actors who performed on each episode, including Anne Hathaway, Tina Fey, John Slattery, Cristin Milioti, Laurentiu Possa, Andrew Scott, Andy Garcia, Julia Garner, John Gallagher Jr. and Sofia Boutella, among others. On reviewing each episode and their respective casts (no spoilers!), Graham & Jocelyn had a big laugh about a cameo appearance by Ed Sheeran; which didn't seem to contribute anything to the plot of the story, much like his prior cameo appearance on Game of Thrones. Jocelyn & Graham talked at length about Anne Hathaway's magnificent performance on episode 2, as she portrayed a the story of a woman battling bipolar disorder. The series is based on original series Top Boy Summmerhouse which debuted in 2011 for Channel 4 in Britain, but was dropped after two seasons in 2013. Jocelyn and Graham discuss how the series, much like we're accustomed to see from British screenwriters, allows viewers to see all the sides to each one of the characters however evil and violent of a life they may lead. The writing of the show tells a complete story of human beings who are multifaceted and not as one-dimensional as other series present characters as "the bad guy" and "the good guy." Jocelyn expressed surprise to see how British society has some of the same social issues as in American society, such as racism and classism, and anti-immigrant sentiments as depicted in the series. Jocelyn & Graham then discuss the premise of the show and addressed each one the characters (no spoilers!), the cast, and how it's not entirely necessary to watch the old series in order to understand what goes on in the new series. Ep.35 Ozark Is Back This Week!!!

On this week's episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham and Jocelyn discuss Netflix Original series Ozark, starring Jason Bateman, Laura Linney, and Julia Garner, along with an absolutely delightful cast of actors. Jocelyn offers a perfect (non spoilers-laden) synopsis of the show, and specifically the character of Marty Byrde, played by Jason Bateman. Before going completely into the cast Graham tells Jocelyn what he's learned about the place called The Ozarks, based on firsthand account of someone Graham knows, who grew up in Missouri and used to spend some summer vacations there as a child. Graham also describe how the seemingly perennial darkness (even in a sunny day) which depicted the Ozarks is real, according to Graham's source. Jocelyn is reminded of she's never had any desires to visit the Ozark, and how she's more convinced of it after seeing the show, even though she's fully aware the depiction of the Ozark is fictional. Graham & Jocelyn discussed the cast, and Jocelyn pointed out how all the women in the show seemed to be very self-sufficient, powerful, and sometimes downright scary. Graham asked Jocelyn to opine about Julia Garner's performance as "Ruth" for which she won Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in the recently celebrated 71st Emmy Awards. Jocelyn is indeed impressed by Ruth the character and by Ms. Garner's histrionic abilities playing said character. The conversation continued into the Snells, The Cartels involved, along with other shenanigans which take place in Ozark. The two co-hosts went back their Emmy nominations episode from a few months ago to review their predictions on who should or shouldn't have won. They marvel at the surprising big wins of Fleabag and actress and creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who won in almost every categories for the show she stars in, and for Killing Eve, a show she created. Graham & Jocelyn revisit several episodes in which they spoke highly of several performers who turned out to be the surprise wins of the night, such as "Killing Eve" actress Jodie Comer, who won leading actress in a drama series for her role of charmingly skillful assassin Villanelle, Graham expressed how pleased he was to have predicted "Ozark" young actress Julia Garner's win as outstanding supporting actress in a drama series. The pair also reflect on the dramatic and historic win by Billy Porter as the first openly gay black man to win in the category of lead actor in a drama series. The pair of hosts also commented on another dramatic, but also well deserved win for 19 year-old actor Jharrell Jerome as lead actor in a limited drama or TV movie for his incredibly moving portrayal of Korey Wise in the Netflix Original miniseries When They See Us, directed and produced by director Ava Duvernay. Korey Wise was one of the five exonerated African-American men who as teenagers, were falsely accused of the brutal rape of a white woman in Central Park, NY; a case which later became known as "The Central Park 5." The conversation continues as the two hosts revisit excerpt from several old episodes and react to their predictions. On this episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Podcast, Graham & Jocelyn discuss Netflix original miniseries "Unbelievable," based on an article entitled: "An Unbelievable Story of Rape" published on Pro Publica in collaboration with The Marshall Project. Jocelyn gives a "no spoiler" background of the story, specifically about the character named Marie Adler. Graham & Jocelyn discuss at length the series of miscarriage of justice Marie is subjected to by a string of male detectives and the people she considered to be her family who refused to believe she was raped. The two co-host present the contrasting reality of the other case in the story about Amber, a college student in Colorado who like Marie, was rape in in the same conditions and circumstances, yet her case was believed and investigated by two female detectives who cracked the case and ended up serving justice to Marie.
Graham & Jocelyn then moved on to discuss the cast beginning with Kaitlyn Dever, the young actress who played Marie Adler. They marveled at Kaitlyn's histrionics and ability to portray the pain and anguish of Marie Adler in her most vulnerable moments. They begin by talking about the distinct "French movie" kind of filter used in the series and how it evoked a stylistic accuracy to the time period both in the camera work and the visuals. Jocelyn & Graham discuss the pleasant surprise of seeing Sacha Baron Cohen playing a serious role and his impeccable acting skills playing a very believable spy. The discussion continued as we wondered about the toll it must take on real life spies and their families. Jocelyn & Graham discussed the cast, among them Noah Emmerich and Alona Tal who are the most recognizable faces. Jocelyn points out how she noticed Noah Emmerich seem to drop the accent along the way and from time to time, Graham noticed the same, but thought he was nitpicking and didn't think anyone else would have noticed until Jocelyn mentioned it. Jocelyn and Graham had high praises for Hadar Ratzon, the actress who played the role of Nadia Cohen, the wife of Eli Cohen, and they even wondered what real life Nadia (who is alive) thought of the actress's portrayal of her. The two co-hosts continued down the list of the remaining lesser know actors and they respective performance. The Spy is on Netflix, has six episodes of approximately 55 minutes each.

The two co-hosts start by acknowledging how Dave has always been able to be irreverent, controversial and push boundaries while being a highly thoughtful and intellectual comedian. However, we found ourselves getting uncomfortable by some of Dave's bits on this Netflix special and for the wrong reasons. Graham and Jocelyn also analyze and agreed with Dave's attempt at exposing the "cancel culture" which is very predominant in today's society, but they both disagree with the notion that some egregious behaviors by some celebrities should be acceptable, and Chappelle's argument in defense of people like Michael Jackson and Louis C.K. is reprehensible. The two agreed that even while being incredibly controversial, Chappelle manages to remain funny, but he also seem to understand how some of the jokes and subjects he jokes about aren't indefensible and plainly offensive. The two co-hosts focus specifically on 5 original series which the streaming platform has either canceled, or announced it will not renew for another season. We begin by lamenting the cancellation of Tuca & Bertie, starring Tiffany Haddish, Steven Yeun, and Ali Wong, after a one season run. Next Jocelyn & Graham moved on to one cancellation which has hurt them the most; which happened about two weeks ago when Netflix announced it would not renew The OA for a third season. The OA is very special to our podcast and if you're a new follower, you can find our special episode "Deciphering The OA" which is episode 13. Jocelyn has been a vocal supporter of The OA on Instragram as she spearheaded a #SaveTheOA campaign which has been joined by several thousands of Instagram followers. The conversation continued on to the cancellation of Friends From College, a fantastic little comedy starring Keegan Michael Key, Fred Savage, Billy Eichner, Annie Parisse, and Cobie Smulders (Robin from HIMYM). Next we talked about the cancellation of the show One Day At A Time; which was revived as a Latin family with Rita Moreno as the coolest Abuela in the world, Justina Machado as a single mother and war veteran raising a family while dealing with the wounds of war. Jocelyn & Graham expressed their relief as they learned the show was picked up by Pop TV. The last cancellation was that of Jessica Jones. Jocelyn theorized the cancellation of all the Netflix's Marvel shows might well be the streaming platform anticipating it might be forced to give up the rights to those series once Disney Plus is up and running. Graham loves Jessica Jones, like he really loves Jessica Jones.

On this week's episode of Kickin' & Streamin' Graham and Jocelyn review FX Original series Pose, a show starring M.J. Rodriguez, Billy Porter, Dominique Jackson, Ryan Jamaal Swain, and Indya Moore. The series was created by screenwriter, director, and producer Ryan Murphy. Murphy is best known for creating and co-creating heavy hitter series including Nip Tuck, Glee, American Horror Story, American Crime Story among others. Jocelyn describes the series as deeply educational and eye-opening. Graham & Jocelyn discuss how much the series shed light on the reality of the life of LGBTQ folks in the 80's at the height of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Jocelyn expresses her amazement at the members of the gay community's ingenuity of creating "houses" as a safe space, a place of refuge for young homeless and destitute LGBT people to prevent them from dying as victim of hate crimes and other dangers they were exposed to as a result of their sexual orientation. Jocelyn expresses how learning about the Ball Culture, all the details, the history, and the kindness the gay community showed to one another during those times is enough to renew her faith in humanity. The co-host then discuss each of the main cast members and their respective characters. Graham and Jocelyn praise M.J. Rodriguez's absolutely magnificent portrayal of Blanca Evangelista, a HIV positive "house mother" who is committed to bettering the lives of each one of her children, and she is particularly committed to ensuring Damon (Ryan Jamaal Swain) lives up to his potential as a ballet dancer. The two co-hosts then discuss Billy Porter's portrayal of Pray Tell who is the Emcee at the nightly balls where each house compete in a runway-style contest of a variety of categories. The remaining characters and actors are discussed at length and in detail. Graham and Jocelyn point out the importance of seeing the art in the series, the creativity, the braveness of individuals who in spite of all the rejection, discrimination, and mistreatment they received from the outside world, they decided to live their true lives, their true identity, regardless of the consequences and ignorance of the times. On this bonus episode of Kickin’ & Streamin’ Podcast, Jocelyn & Graham discuss the gut-wrenching, absolutely heartbreaking Netflix mini-series “When They See Us,” created, and directed by the phenomenal director Ava Duvernay (Selma). This series tells the story of five teenagers: Korey Wise, Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusuf Salaam, and Raymond Santana, four blacks and one Latino who were falsely accused of raping a 28 year-old white Central Park jogger in April of 1989. Jocelyn and Graham make a full disclaimer by telling how neither of them were able to watch the series in its completion due to the inevitable sensation of anger, impotence, and frustration one experiences while watching the series. Jocelyn exhorts young listeners to make sure to watch the series or at least read about the real-life case; which went on to be dubbed “The Central Park 5.” Graham tells Jocelyn how he only learned about The Central Park 5 case during the 2016 election cycle as result of Donald Trump’s candidacy and eventual ascent to the presidency of the United States. The Central Park 5 was a frequent reference during said election cycle because at its height, Donald Trump took a full-page ad in several New York City newspapers demanding the death penalty for the five teenagers. Graham also explains how very little was known about The Central Park 5 case in the Caribbean at the time it occurred because people are taught to idealize the United States as a place where such grave miscarriage of justice doesn’t occur, not in modern times at least; therefore it was more painfully disappointing for Graham to learn The Central Park 5 case was very recent history. On this episode of Kickin' & Streamin,' co-hosts Graham & Jocelyn discuss Netflix original movie "Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile, directed by Joe Berlinger and starring Zac Efron and Lilly Collins. The movie is based on the book "The Phantom Prince: My Life with Ted Bundy" by Elizabeth Kendall, Bundy's longtime girlfriend. Jocelyn and Graham discuss how the movie, despite being about about Kendall's story through the book, was mainly about Ted Bundy; which gave the impression both Liz and her story were pushed to the side while Ted Bundy became the centerpiece of the story. We also discussed the casting of Zac Efron and his eerie resemblance to the real Ted Bundy. Jocelyn & Graham analyze both the disinterest and ineptitude of law enforcement at the time; which seemed to allow Bundy to go undetected for so many years while racking up dozens of victims. The conversation continued into the psyche and mental capacity of Bundy throughout his trial and defense. Graham & Jocelyn analyze the cast, and they both lament Lilly Collins' role lack of significance in the movie. Jocelyn posited Joe Berlinger, who is more of a documentary filmmaker might have lacked control over the cast; which could explain why no other performance seemed convincing, other than Zac Efron's and Kaya Scoledario's. Jocelyn and Graham talk about John Malkovich's excellent portrayal of Judge Cowart in the movie, despite not looking much like Judge Cowart in real life. The conversation continues into alternative casting and hilarity ensues until the end.

On this week's episode of Kickin' & Streamin' podcast, Jocelyn & Graham are joined by John Allison, a friend and listener who suggested we watch and make an episode about Netflix's Original Series "The OA." After binge-watching both seasons of the show, host and co-host Graham & Jocelyn felt they would need help to break down one of the most complex and mind-bending series ever produced in the history of Netflix. Graham called upon John and he responded the call. We start the episode talking about the recent passing of Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew who John tells us he had met on several occasions. John reminisced about how Mr. Mayhew, despite being seemingly under tremendous amount of physical discomfort due to his unusual growth, was always gentle, kind, and courteous to every fan who approached him. RIP Peter Mayhew (aka) Chewbacca! We then moved on to talking about some of the upcoming series we're excited about on the various streaming platforms, as well as some other series about which we haven't got the slightest idea of what to expect from them. Graham and Jocelyn announced the premiering of "Dead to Me" on Netflix, "Lucifer," "The Society," as well as animated series "Tuca & Bertie." Jocelyn also point out the release of "Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile," a movie about notorious American serial killer Ted Bundy on Netflix, starring Zac Efron. Graham expressed interest in the HBO mini series "Chernobyl" on HBO, the return of Amazon Prime series "Sneaky Pete," starring Giovanni Ribisi. Graham brought up an apparently newly acquired series on Amazon called Whisenpoof; which none of us seemed to know what it was about, until we later realized it's animated Canadian-American series. On this episode of Kickin' & Streamin', political blogger Patrick Phillips joins Graham & Jocelyn to discuss the untimely death of rapper Nipsey Hussle and the unexpected outpouring of love and support for his art, his music, and his service to his community, (4:15), Patrick begins by telling us how, how even though he considers himself to be a huge "Hip Hop head," he knew very little about Nipsey until his death. Patrick also talks about how he went on to learn more about Nipsey through the testimony of a old friend with background in the Los Angeles neighborhood where Nispey came up, who also once met the late rapper for a discussion about business, (10:44), Jocelyn, Graham & Patrick discussed further about Nipsey's activism and investment in his community, as well as his earlier involvement in the gang culture of L.A., (23:53), Jocelyn & Graham have an in-depth discussion about Jordan Peele's acclaimed movie "Us," (24:14) Jocelyn enjoyed the movie, but she wasn't terribly impressed; Graham dived into his takeaway of the movie by analyzing the similarity of each character and their respective doppelganger, but Jocelyn feels like Graham saw a completely different movie than she did, (31:52), Graham & Jocelyn agree that the story line became slightly disorganized and aimless toward the latter parts of the movie (58:06), the conversation continues as Graham & Jocelyn agree that perhaps Jordan Peele wanted moviegoers to draw their own conclusion about the movie.
