Coach Frank and son Lance return with the latest episode of their father and son family Wolves hoops conversation. A barnburner is what the Wolves and Nuggets played on Christmas Day and Ant Edwards full yin and yang was on display. Stop me if you've heard this one: Ant showcases a dazzling display of shotmaking and the Wolves play inspired defense to send the Nuggets to OT. Then, the Wolves thrash the Nuggets around and bodyslam them to the Canvas for the first 2 plus min. Denver's manager distracts the referee while Ant and the Wolves climb to the top turnbuckle. But, instead of jumping for the final flying elbow drop, Ant and company turn to play to the cameras and crowd. They disparage a couple hecklers, and laugh at a few joke(r)s (pun intended). Their, seemingly unconscious, opponent is playing possum, though. Ant and company have lost focus. They leap off the top rope for the final flying head-butt, only to have their prey (Den, Phx, Sac, etc...) roll out of the way at the last second as the Wolves smash their head into the canvas, never to recover. 1 three, 2 threes, 3 threes, and a turnover later and the Wolves have been counted out, again. This episode will also include some Jaden McDaniels and Jaylen Clark love and a shout out to Tim Connelly. As Coach Frank and Lance come to a close, they sprinkle in some talk about the upcoming road trip which includes the daunting task of trying to beat a rested OKC in Oklahoma before heading back to Target Center. Is a 0-3 road trip on the horizon for the hometown hoopers?

***Trigger Warning*** The latest episode recorded on Oct 31, 2025 is not one for those who can't handle criticism of the hometown Minnesota Timberwolves (said with a wry smile). The Coach & The Culture podcast features Coach Frank, from Richfield High, and Lance Gardner, former collegiate player and owner of Yes!Trees (Tree trimming and removal). The father-son duo lets the Timberwolves have it this week. Coach Frank gives his usual coach's eye take on the Wolves and one thing a coach has trouble stomaching is poor fundamentals and lack of "winning" effort. Well, the Timberwolves, through 5 games, are full of both and Lance warns that it's early "act right" time for the Wolves. The discussion covers the offense of Jaden and Julius and basically no one else in Ant's absence. Then theres a scathing review of the defense and how that end of the floor may be affecting Naz and TJ on offense. Tune in for these conversations and more. Admittedly the duo isn't kind (but do they really deserve kindness) to the Wolves early season start but opportunity is ahead and there's a long ways to go. Please listen and subscribe to The Coach & The Culture Timberwolves focused podcast.

On this episode of The Coach & The Culture podcast, recorded Oct 24, 2025 (before the game vs The Los Angeles Lakers), Coach Frank and Lance (from Yes!Trees) is joined by St Paul Central Hall of Fame basketball great Juriad Hughes. The trio discusses the Timberwolves 118-114 opening night road victory over the Portland Trailblazers, which of course means plenty of Anthony Edwards talk. Then they discuss the Julius and Jaden on court relationship as well as the expected rotation minutes and contribution of TJ Shannon and Jaylen Clark. They also discuss Coach Finch's choice of Bones Hyland over Rob Dillingham to start the 4th quarter and why it's not necessarily time to pull the plug on young Rob. The episode continues with a little talk about what we would and wouldn't like to see in the game vs LA (We saw ALL the stuff we didn't want to see). Closing out the episode is talk with Juriad about his playing career, his "ONE LEVEL SPORTS" training and mentorship company and his World Champion track star son at the University of Arkansas. Give a listen to a fun conversation filled with Timberwolves anaylsis and trips down memory lane with the 1989 Mr Basketball runner-up! (Yes, he was snubbbed lol)

However, while Lance is doom and gloom on the Wolves right now, Coach Frank points to some reasons for optimism and why the defense and mentality in the win over the Clippers might be a positive omen for things to come.Give us a listen and let us know what you think of our assessment.

DM us at coachculturepod24 on Blue Sky or coachculturempls on instagram

Thank you for listening and supporting The Coach & The Culture MN Timberwolves talk podcast

This week's talk centers around the Wolves inability to consistently play clean basketball. After All-Star talk, Coach Frank and Lance discuss the four game winning streak for the Minnesota Timberwolves going into the All-Star break and what were some things that were positives about that winning streak- including contributions by Jaden McDaniels, Naz Reid, and Monte Morris. The episode winds down with a look ahead at the last 29 games of the regular season and the importance of coming out hot during a 7 game homestand before a 6 game road trip. A week that began with a gutsy win over the Thunder in Oklahoma City ended with a disappointing late game collapse at home against the Orlando Magic. Coach Frank and Lance talk about the determine factors in the two games being the excellent play of Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels in the 4th at OKC and the glaring mistakes the duo made in the loss against Orlando. The bottom line is the Timberwolves late game success hinges on the maturity and decision making of the kids. Coach Frank breaks down some of the late game decisions by Ant and Jaden on both ends of the floor. He then shares some Chris Finch comments, via Dane Moore, that suggest the coach is fed up with the ball hogging and defensive lapses and, now that the mid season awards have been handed out, the coach may be making some changes. Lance points out how the “continuity” period that may have allowed the Wolves to get off to such a great start is over and the Wolves had better adjust. The West is tightening up in a hurry. Victories over New York, a no JoJo Philly squad and the injured and suspended Memphis Grizz cushion the blow of a first home loss against the Sacramento Kings. Within all the positives Coach Frank and Lance discuss at length how the Wolves being 4th from the bottom of the NBA in offensive rebounds allowed and turnovers per game is still a concerning trend for the hometown team. This in addition to Shake Milton’s struggles. On the positive, however, despite these issues they are still in 1st place, Troy Brown Jr is emerging, and Ant, KAT and Finch have been solving the riddles opponents have been throwing at them. The podcast ends with a dose of reality about the upcoming schedule and why the Wolves hot start will bear sweet fruit as a bitter 16 game stretch approaches.

Recorded Sunday Nov 19, at The Dream Shop, Coach Frank and Lance Gardner review the Wolves 4 road games from the previous week. Beginning with a two game series in the Bay Area against Golden State the duo discuss how while the Wolves played two different Warriors teams, the energy needed to beat the Warriors twice was equally mentally and physically taxing in both. The duo then discuss how (and why) Chris Finch was clearly not allowing his obviously gassed group to make excuses on the second half of a back to back against a rested and ready Phoenix Suns squad. Coach Frank also explains why Devin Booker might just be Anthony Edwards kryptonite.

Next, the discussion moves to the gutsy win against the New Orleans Pelicans and why that was the latest “most impressive” win of the season- as well as why winning against short handed or disadvantaged teams is so important this season. Last, Coach Frank and Lance revisit last episodes “concerning trends” and things they “hope never ends”.

Turn us on for a great Timberwolves hoops listen. Then, they dive into revisiting the Rudy trade and share their current views (Coach Frank’s views haven’t changed at all). Next Coach Frank discusses how the free agent signings send a clear smoke signal that the team is diving into an identity of strong perimeter defense- not just leaning on Rudy on that end. Coach Frank then explains the difference between shot “selection” and shot “choice” and how this year’s offense may also play a role in being a top 5 defense. (Somewhere in there is also an appearance by a squirrel). The show closes with some true fan July/August optimism from Lance about where the Wolves will end up this coming season followed by one more shout out to Coach Cheryl Reeves.
