Join us each episode as we explore how this relationship with Jesus effects everything from politics and religion, to relationships and theology.</itunes:summary>

This week, we FINALLY had someone on our podcast that has a tie to the coffee industry! Tim interviewed Mitch Reaume, the Founder & CEO of “Fight For Something”. They discussed the idea of “Social Business” and how the mission of Mitch’s business is to see social business go from being a niche to a norm. At some point, business became more about profit than anything else, and now Mitch is trying to do something about by building brands that concentrate on sustainability, ethically sourced goods, impacting the culture for good, and always giving back! Also – finally had a real conversation on brewing coffee – which is big… ya know… since our podcast is COFFEE, Theology, and Jesus.
This week Tim and Jordan get together to have a response to the insurrection at the US Capitol and the appearance of Jesus banners and Christian flags during the events. As always, we are mostly concerned with the Christian and Church culture and how we are reflecting Jesus to the world. So you can imagine our dismay when something like the events on January 6th, 2021 is tied (loosely or directly) to “Christianity” we want to be able to stand up and call things out that need to be addressed. We hope you enjoy the discussion this week.
This week Tim interviewed Dr. David Gushee and essentially covered two topics including American Evangelicalism and their entanglement with the Republican Party and LGBTQ affirmation and inclusion in the church. Rob and Jordan do join Tim after the interview to briefly discuss their thoughts of the interview. While we understand these are both topics that provoke emotional responses, we wanted to have Dr. Gushee on to present a view that is different from the “traditional view” and begin a dialogue at the very least. These are large culturally relevant issues that the church needs to be equipped to discuss and encouraged to do so honestly, Biblically, and lovingly. For more information on Dr. David Gushee:Website: http://www.davidpgushee.com/Referenced Article: https://religionnews.com/2020/11/11/why-trumps-electoral-crisis-is-really-a-moral-crisis/Recent Book: https://www.amazon.com/After-Evangelicalism-Path-New-Christianity/dp/0664266118Book on LGBTQ Inclusion: https://www.amazon.com/Changing-Our-Mind-Definitive-Christians/dp/1942011849/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=changing+our+mind&qid=1607489046&s=books&sr=1-2
We discuss how different cultures interact with the Bible and why it is so important to understand the cultural context of the scriptures to get a full understanding of the text and the unwritten details in every story. We hope you find this interview intriguing and go and check out his books and articles further!Dr. Richards Info:WebsiteBooksIntervarsity Press
We have had a busy few weeks behind the scenes trying to get more content together. Tim and I had the opportunity to have Mike on – who manages the Instagram account Christians Who Curse Sometimes. We apologize for some of the audio issues we experienced early in the show but we seemed to get them sorted out during the interview. We had a great time with Mike discussing our stories growing up in Christianity and meeting reality, how discipleship and accountability are lacking but sorely needed, and how we can all do better for ourselves and each other.
Continuing our series on Racism in the Church – we were so glad to have special guest Dorion Morgan this week. Dorion is a pastor at Restoration Station Christian Fellowship but is also a practicing lawyer so we had him on to discuss his perspective from both a pastor and a lawyer on the racism that is and has been plaguing the US. For most of the episode we found that it was best to just sit back and take in what Dorion was discussing but we try to get to some practical lessons that all of us, especially Christians, can take away on how to continue to eradicate systemic racism in the church and influence the world around us. Let’s jump in and join the conversation.
This week we are starting a series of podcasts dedicated to racism. Honestly, with the events of 2020, we have all been taking a serious look in the mirror and wondering, “how can I do better?” We all agreed that one way would be to start a series on the topic focusing on racism in the church. Where are we? How did we get here? Is there a path forward? Does the scripture give any insight into the issues we are facing in the USA and in 2020? We obviously don’t have all the answers but knew we had to start somewhere. Future episodes will feature other guests but join us for this opening conversation this week.
This episode is all about calling out Christianity as a breeding ground for conspiracy theories. Why are we so easily sucked into a mindset of current events that most would label as conspiracy or folklore? Are there legitimate theological reasons or are we just a bunch of whackos that have found each other? We discuss a lot of the current theories in 2020 that have been floating around, as well as the theological undertones of what makes Christianity ripe for believing some of the videos that tend to circulate during apocalyptic times. Let’s jump in to the discussion this week.
