<itunes:summary>I'm joined by realtor Rebecca Holley, a founder of Spaces Real Estate in Boulder, Colorado to discuss home lighting from both a buyers and sellers perspective. Rebecca has sold over 500 homes, worked with her husband in his contracting business, and moved 11 times herself in the past 16 years so she knows a thing or two about what to look out for when it comes to lighting your home.

We talked about:
- How home design and lighting have changed in the past 5 or 10 years and what's popular right now.
- What are buyer expectations when looking at different types of homes including custom, new build subdivisions and existing homes?
- Common lighting mistakes that could inhibit a home from selling?
- Simple and low cost lighting changes a homeowner can make when staging a house to sell.

If you're in the Boulder area and looking to buy or sell your home you can find out more about Rebecca's company at https://yourspaces.com/

<itunes:summary>In this episode Dr Shelley James of Age of Light Innovations Group discusses how, during lock-down in 2020, her nieces and godchildren's health and happiness was affected by a life indoors, and was inspired to do something about it.

She knew that lighting makes a huge difference in our lives, and especially for growing brains. We talked about the Luna project she developed and how it covered different ways lighting impacts a growing brain and simple things you can do to improve your child's health and wellbeing, including:

- Understanding your body clock (and how it's different in teenagers) and how to give it a boost with lighting at different times of day
- How going outside more could reduce the chance of your child needing to wear glasses even if you do.
- Using natural, bright light to trigger 'happy hormones'.
- Avoiding headaches that could be caused by your lights.

Shelley is a lumenologist. She's an international expert on light and well-being and a passionate advocate for public engagement with science. She recently appeared on the award-winning BBC series Revolutions: Ideas that Changed the World.

<itunes:summary>In this episode I had the pleasure of talking to Robert Soler about how circadian or biological lighting in your home can help you live healthier and sleep better.

Robert is a co-founder of BIOS Lighting, a NASA spinoff that creates human-centric circadian lighting solutions to help human and plant life naturally thrive. Prior to BIOS, his most prominent work was at Kennedy Space Center, where he was the Subject Matter Expert for NASA’s circadian lighting system to synchronize astronauts to a 24-hour cycle on board International Space Station.

We discussed what your circadian rhythm is, how everyone has a slightly different body clock, and how it's affected by the lighting that we're exposed to throughout the day. The goal of BIOS Lighting is 'brighter days and darker nights'. He explained the best places to have circadian lighting in your home and how to use it effectively.

You can find out more about BIOS Lighting and the products we talked about at their website: https://bioslighting.com/

Remember to use this special coupon code that Robert gave us to get 20% off your purchase: lightinglady

To learn about their research and how you can improve your lighting space check out the BIOS Biological Lighting Institute: https://biosinstitute.org/

<itunes:summary>In this episode I had the pleasure of talking to Nancy Clanton about how critical interior design and lighting is for those with low vision.

Nancy Clanton is the founder and CEO of Clanton & Associates, an award winning lighting design firm specializing in sustainable and regenerative design. She was a part of the Low Vision Design Committee of the National Institute of Building Sciences that developed and published Design Guidelines for the Visual Environment. The guidelines provide specific design recommendations regarding the visual environment in order to afford equal access to all facilities through universal design principles.

We discussed these guidelines and other design advice to help you or a loved one with low vision safely navigate and enjoy the home. Hear how impaired vision can impact the use of stairs, glass doors and even patterned carpets.

You can learn more about the Design Guidelines for the Visual Environment at: https://www.nibs.org/files/pdfs/NIBS_LVDP_Guidelines_2015.pdf
